Quiet neighborhoodhood in town at the foot of Mt. Marathon

Bedrooms 1
Space 400 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Sporting a fun Alaskan bush pilot theme, the Taildragger Inn sits nestled at the base of the Mt. Marathon. This one bedroom apartment is ideally located within walking distance of downtown Seward and the boat harbor. Hiking trails are just around the corner, including the renowned "runner's trail" up Mt. Marathon - Although connected to the main house, the apartment uses a separate entrance and does not share space with the owners, affording you privacy. The apartment is compact, yet meets all of your needs with a full kitchen, 3/4 bathroom, and bed space for four. After a long day adventuring around the Seward area, you can relax on the couch and enjoy a movie on Netflix or take in the long Alaskan daylight outside around the fire pit.

About The Owner

About your hosts: Jill first came to Alaska from the Pacific Northwest as an 18 year old to work seasonally in the canneries during the summertime, experiencing different areas of the state before permanently moving to Seward in 1990. Ronn arrived in the last frontier in the mid 1990s to take a job teaching in the village of Naknek and soon realized his boyhood dream of becoming a pilot: a year later, he moved to Seward. The two met years later, marrying in 2007. They raised four children in the town and are looking forward to adventures with grandchildren soon. Jill and Ronn enjoy the outdoors and spend much of their free time there - hiking, camping, biking, canoeing, skiing, ice skating or just resting on the deck in the summer. In addition, they have two enthusiastic and energetic canine children - Dax and Hank - who can often be seen playfully running alongside their people.

Jill and Ronn also love to travel and meet new people, and share their town with others. Over the years they have hosted five foreign exchange students and quite a few random travelers. They now look forward to opening their home up to others and continuing with the tradition of sharing their town.

Quiet neighborhoodhood in town at the foot of Mt. Marathon

Great little place. Many thoughtful touches.

This property is exactly as described. It was perfect for a 2-night stay for our family of four. We were easily able to walk to the boat landing to depart for a Fjord tour, and although we didn't make all the way up to the top of Mt. Marathon, we were able to easily walk to the trailhead and hike some of the trail. With a couple of quick trips in our car we were able to explore the Lowell Point State Recreation Site and Exit Glacier. There are so many other exciting things to explore nearby, but we just didn't have the time.

The amenities and cleanliness were superb! We were easily able to cook all of our meals while still being in an atmosphere where we could relax. We especially appreciated the outdoor grill for cooking, the Wi-Fi for planning our next day's adventures, and the boot dryer for helping to prep our gear for the following day.

excellent place, convenient, well appointed and very loving owners

  • 5 of 5

Hi, thanks for letting us stay at your home. Kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and small living area all well appointed with cooking utensils, towels, napkins, comforters, chairs, etc. Sofa bed was a little tight fit for my two fully adult boys, but still quite comfortable. We liked to be able to cook our breakfasts and lunches/dinners. Several restaurants within walking distance. For hikers, mt marathon is very close. From the street, you can see the seashore. The owners are very hospitable. Thx to Ron for even lending us a bear spray since we had forgotten. Hope Ron gets his plane in shipshape certified soon so we can come fly with him maybe next time we come.

This little apartment was a great 2 night stay. The place was very clean and comfortable. It was just far enough from downtown to be out of the bustle but still close enough to walk to quite a few places if you wish.
