This year round, charming, quiet, tastefully decorated house is lovingly called, 'The Bungalow' as it was named by the owner's parents. Originally built as a summer get away, It is now also the perfect ski or snowmobile retreat, with snowmobile trails less than a half mile from the front door! Sugarloaf Mountain is only 15 minute down the road.
The Bungalow is a bi-level, open floor plan dwelling, with bedrooms on the first floor and living/dining/kitchen areas on the top floor. The main floor is flanked by 2 decks and is kept bright by the wall of windows with views to the large front lawn and gorgeous water beyond. This vacation house is perfect for a family of up to 5, or is a romantic, spacious hideaway for a couple. Wake up to a peaceful view of the pond from the master bedroom, have coffee in the sun on the deck or dock, and go for a refreshing swim or paddle in one of our kayaks as part of your daily routine. The cozy town of Kingfield with its quaint shops, galleries, and restaurants, including the renowned Orange Cat Cafe is minutes down the road. Or, head North to the Sugarloaf Mountain area (14 miles) for great hiking, biking, zip lining, and golfing.
Our family has grown up in the Kingfield area, and currently resides there. We have always had family get together at the Bungalow, and continue to use and maintain it for ourselves when not in use by vacationers.
Chelcey Dunham purchased this house in 1993
The Bungalow was a generous gift from our parents, who had always owned property on Tufts pond, including the property just down the way.
Have your lunch or dinner in the cool shade of the Gazebo by the water, use one of the onsight kayaks and go for a relaxing paddle, bathe in the sun, or cozy up on one of the plush couches with a book (glancing up at the view once and a while!)...whatever you do during your vacation week, this lovely spot will surely rejuvenate you and your soul.
The listing description was accurate on all points. Property was clean, well-maintained, stocked with everything you'd need at home, and the welcome book was very helpful, clear, and listed everything you'd need to know and what to do upon departure.
This property was even better than described online! The loons, the view, the lake, the peacefulness, all amazing! We never left the property! Cooked every meal in the spacious, well stocked kitchen. We enjoyed time out on the deck and on the couches reading. The larger bedroom was very comfortable and linens very soft. We had very restful sleep here. Our dog enjoyed her stay as well - swimming in the lake, lounging on the deck and rolling in the grass. I highly recommend staying at the Bungalow!
My only comment is that while completely reasonable and a great approach, there were several things we were required to do upon checking out that were listed in the welcome book these items come with fines if not completed prior to departure and I don't recall seeing online or in the contracts. Again, while completely reasonable and I agree with the approach, I would suggest letting your guests know this either prior to or at time of booking so they know things are required to be done and no one accidentally overlooks each item because maybe they didn't read the book. These are simple things that one should do anyway when departing - washing dishes, taking out trash, sweeping, etc. but should be made more clear to renter to look in book since they come with fines.
We keep coming back! The Bungalow is pretty, clean and situated on a wonderful pond. Great deck to sit and relax with the view. Canoes and kayaks are available to use. The pond is just cosy enough that no matter where the loons are, you can hear them calling. Love that!
Area has trail hiking and biking in abundance and any ither outdoor recreation you may like. Orange Cat Cafe continues to be funky, fun and delicious. We always have a great time at the Bungalow!
The view of the pond from the house was beautiful. Could not ask for a better spot to watch the sunset and listen to the loons on the pond. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing week.
We were immediately impressed by the bungalow and surrounding area. The layout and view from the living area was perfect. Also loved that the sleeping area was on the bottom floor. Although it rained our first day, we enjoyed reading magazines, taking a nap or two, and playing cards. Day 2 was beautiful. We went kayaking around the entire pond. Love the fact that there is very little activity and no motor boats. My husband and daughter went to Sugarloaf to zipline for the first time. The bungalow is fully equipped and clean. It could use some updating, particularly with bedding. The best part was coffee on the deck, listening to the loons. Our dog Harlee probably enjoyed herself the most. A perfect place for her and she got the full attention of the entire family. Doesn't get any better. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. It was a little too quiet for our 21 year old daughter, but perfect for my husband and I.
We were very thankful that the owners shared their house with us! This was an awesome home with a fantastic location and view. Set at the end of a dirt road, we enjoyed the peace and quiet as did our 2 dogs. We liked that there were only kayaks and canoes on the water, no motor boats that we saw to disturb the peace. The loons were a beautiful and constant sight, and the owl each night definitely added to our delight. The house was spotless, beds comfortable, and everything you could need was there. The outside deck was equally comfortable as was the screened cabana down on the shore. We were very pleased with our 3 nights there.
We had a very relaxing week at the bungalow with our dog. She went on her very first kayak trip and loved it. The place is just what we wanted, quiet, relaxing and peaceful. The views from the deck and the dock were awesome, as were the loons with their little babies. Even got to see a meteor shower early in the morning from the deck, it was spectacular. It was nice having a lawn so we could play yard games and see a great view of the pond. Suzanne was very nice and accommodating, and you have to go to the Orange Cat Cafe for a great breakfast. Don't forget the apple fritters and cinnamon rolls! We hope to be back in the future.
Serene, Gorgeous setting on Tuft's Pond, located a few miles from Kingfield town center, and 14 miles from the Sugarloaf Mountain Access Road.
