About Chelcey Dunham

Our family has grown up in the Kingfield area, and currently resides there. We have always had family get together at the Bungalow, and continue to use and maintain it for ourselves when not in use by vacationers.

Chelcey Dunham purchased this house in 1993

Why Chelcey Dunham chose Kingfield

The Bungalow was a generous gift from our parents, who had always owned property on Tufts pond, including the property just down the way.

What makes this house unique

Have your lunch or dinner in the cool shade of the Gazebo by the water, use one of the onsight kayaks and go for a relaxing paddle, bathe in the sun, or cozy up on one of the plush couches with a book (glancing up at the view once and a while!)...whatever you do during your vacation week, this lovely spot will surely rejuvenate you and your soul.

Pure Serenity

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at dusk to purple skies, a perfectly-still lake and loons calling. Right then we knew we made the right choice to rent the Bungalow. The pictures are accurate but at the same time don't do it justice. The kitchen is well-appointed; everything you need, nothing you don't. We were pleasantly surprised to find a king-sized bed in the main bedroom and it was so comfortable I asked the owners for the make. We spent a lot of time reading, cooking, and generally hanging around and found the entire house and grounds to be comfortable in all sorts of weather. My husband commented on the grill being in the best shape he's ever seen at a rental home and it started on the first try. We could tell a lot of care goes into this house, which isn't always the case with rentals.

One note - dogs are not allowed to be left alone in the home, which was not included in the contract or terms, or in the directions the owners sent in advance. We learned of the rule when we arrived and read the house rules. No biggie - and understandable if you have a dog prone to barking since barks cut through the absolutely serene quiet - but it did change our plans for the week. Our tripod elderly beagle can't hike the was she used to. We found a lovely boarding situation just two miles north on 27 at Carrabassett Valley Vet and Boarding and would recommend them again.

We hope to be back again. It was truly the best rental experience we've had.

Great place to unwind

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 4 adults, a one year old, and a high-energy-water-loving springer spaniel had a great stay at the Bungalow. We have used VRBO for lake house rentals before, but none of them had been this quiet and peaceful. The Bunglaow truly is a place to "get away from it all."

When we were looking at booking a lake house, I came across this listing, and read all the reviews. I just want to address the previous review that said the check out "to-do" list was lengthy. Honestly, the check out list was very reasonable, and similar to other vrbo and air bnb listings we have used: strip the sheets off the beds, take out your trash and put it on the porch, and wash the dishes that you used. Pretty reasonable.

We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for allowing dogs, and for sharing your home!

beautiful lake in the mountain region of maine

  • 2 of 5

had a nice time here but got bitten by fleas in the back bedroom in the basement. there was also no propane for the grill and the bedrooms were terribly musty. the lake was lovely and it was a bonus to have kayaks to float around on. unfortunately, i dont believe that the lake was stocked as no matter where or what time we fished, there were no fish. not even bites! the best part was the sereneness of the area and the beautiful sounds of the loons.

Owner's Response: This guest unfortunately did not see the extra tank of gas that is kept for the grill when the original runs out, and did not call the number given in the event of questions or issues, so there was no way to help her. As for fleas, we responded to her claim and had a professional determine that there are none. While looking for fish she must have not worn her bug spray! As for mustiness, this is the first time someone has thought that...we certainly don't and we use it regularly between reservations. We were aware that this guest had some personal issues to work out during her stay at the Bungalow, and we find it unfortunate that she projected her negativity toward our beloved happy place!

Relaxing Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

The listing description was accurate on all points. Property was clean, well-maintained, stocked with everything you'd need at home, and the welcome book was very helpful, clear, and listed everything you'd need to know and what to do upon departure.

This property was even better than described online! The loons, the view, the lake, the peacefulness, all amazing! We never left the property! Cooked every meal in the spacious, well stocked kitchen. We enjoyed time out on the deck and on the couches reading. The larger bedroom was very comfortable and linens very soft. We had very restful sleep here. Our dog enjoyed her stay as well - swimming in the lake, lounging on the deck and rolling in the grass. I highly recommend staying at the Bungalow!

My only comment is that while completely reasonable and a great approach, there were several things we were required to do upon checking out that were listed in the welcome book these items come with fines if not completed prior to departure and I don't recall seeing online or in the contracts. Again, while completely reasonable and I agree with the approach, I would suggest letting your guests know this either prior to or at time of booking so they know things are required to be done and no one accidentally overlooks each item because maybe they didn't read the book. These are simple things that one should do anyway when departing - washing dishes, taking out trash, sweeping, etc. but should be made more clear to renter to look in book since they come with fines.

Peaceful and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We keep coming back! The Bungalow is pretty, clean and situated on a wonderful pond. Great deck to sit and relax with the view. Canoes and kayaks are available to use. The pond is just cosy enough that no matter where the loons are, you can hear them calling. Love that!

Area has trail hiking and biking in abundance and any ither outdoor recreation you may like. Orange Cat Cafe continues to be funky, fun and delicious. We always have a great time at the Bungalow!

The view of the pond from the house was beautiful. Could not ask for a better spot to watch the sunset and listen to the loons on the pond. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing week.
