Friendly dogs considered.
The owner and her family enjoy Maine and all it has to offer. This is a child friendly and dog friendly house! We so love watching the sailboats sail by and our resident Bald Eagle soar through the skies. Belfast is a wonderful community and we hope you will come and visit!
We love eating at the picnic table inches from the water,we love finding seaglass right on our beach, we love walking along the beach to Belfast City Park to enjoy an ice cream cone and a game of tennis, or a cool refreshing swim in the public outdoor pool. We love settling down for a nice long read of one of the books from our extensive collection.. We love it all, and we know you will too!
My husband and I spent a week here with our children, 3 and 6, and it was just lovely! The house is beautiful and full of character with worn wooden floors, unique antique furniture pieces, beautiful paintings and vintage prints in antique frames mixed with a modern yet nostalgic feeling kitchen and comfortable beds. It was welcoming and cozy and accommodated out family just right. We had everything we needed. The kids loved the upstairs loft area with a play area and mattress under the dormers. We loved all of the books and sitting out on the 2 decks overlooking the water. Having the beach just steps away was a dream! The beach was a mix of pebbles, large rocks and mud/ rocky seaweed when the tide was out (typical for this part of Maine and great for finding treasures). We loved just walking the beach and the kids loved exploring tide pools, throwing rocks in the water and building stone structures. We ventured the short walk down the beach to the community playground which was fun for the kids. Belfast is such a vibrant little community with lots of art and book stores, restaurants and scenic walks. Bar Harbor was about an hour away and Camden/ Rocklnd about 35-45 min. Caitlin was so sweet and helpful. She was easily availible for questions but also respected our privacy. She even stocked the fridge wih a few essentials, including wine, when we arrived! It was an honor to stay here and I left with a sense of calm and inspiration. Thank you again Caitlin for sharing your home with us!
We just completed a perfect week with our daughter and her family, and with our dogs, at this delightful place. The setting is to die for - right smack on the waters of Belfast harbor and Penobscot Bay, facing Blue Hill in the distance. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets treated us every day. There were seven of us, and we fit easily and very comfortably. The house was extremely well equipped and it met all of our needs. And as a bonus, we thought Caitlin, the owner was wonderful. We loved this place so much that we have booked it again for 2017. Caitlin and her property get our highest rating!
We have returned to Belfast and this 'home away' for the third year---and have already booked it for 2017. We love Belfast itself; it has the small town feel and accessibility that seems to have vanished from most places. But we also love this house. It accommodates our grandchildren when they visit and yet feels very comfortable when we are on our own. Everything that others have said on this site is true---the expansive view, the charm of the interior, the thoughtfulness of the owner. I feel fortunate to be here!
When we walked through this house upon arrival, my 19-year old looked at me and said, "This could be my favorite house we've ever been in." That pretty much sums up this house. Even without the Bayside setting, you should visit this house. It is quintessential Maine. It is so cozy that you almost hope for a storm that forces you to hunker down inside. There are 3 distinct living areas, so there is plenty of room for napping or reading if you want some time alone. But it does have the view, and what a view it is! You can see the water from every room in the house. It is the most peaceful setting you can imagine. Caitlin has it stocked with everything you need, including an awesome grill, and their is a really nice grocery nearby. Belfast is a lovely town that is not too overrun with tourist. You are also close to several state parks, and Acadia is an easy drive. But why leave when you can sit in the yard with a glass of wine and experience perfect peace. Or as my son did, sit on a big rock, in the Bay, with your fishing line in the water.
Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. The fresh flowers and breakfast starters were a nice touch after such a long drive. We love the way every room takes full advantage of the waterfront with large windows looking over Penobscot Bay. We enjoyed the beautiful sunrises on the deck each morning along with listening to the buoy bell and the charm of the home with antique furniture and books. The beach is just steps away and so enjoyable to walk when the tide is out, searching for unique stones and sea glass. What a great kitchen too!
Your recommendation of the farmers market was perfect. We found lots of goodies, fresh bread and local goat cheese. A bottle of wine and some deli meats complimented these for our evening with a cozy fire in the fireplace.
This is a place you can truly relax and take in the Maine experience. We started to miss this home from the time we left the driveway.
Having a week in this charming waterfront home was not time enough. We were in love with the relaxing sense of the property, and the amazing views. Children & dogs on the beach - seals, boats and loons in and on the water provided an easy afternoon's entertainment. The town of Belfast has great shops, restaurants & cafes - and the harbor walk is a must! What fun it was to enjoy a lobster expedition, set up by Cat, our kind and gracious hostess/homeowner! Cat even made doubly sure that we would connect with the correct boat & captain by taking an early morning trip down to the dock before our excursion. (Very much appreciated, Cat!) The sweet home is well stocked with linens, kitchen appliances, equipment & serviceware, and is perfectly decorated in the smart & classically restrained Maine fashion that you'd wish for. We spent fun evenings lingering at the dining table, talking, laughing & playing board games while listening to great music. Just perfect! Our thanks to Cat, for checking in to see that we were comfortable, and happy - and we were! As our daughter offered, "the home was better that we'd had hoped for", and it would be a pleasure to enjoy it again!
