WindHaven Cottage: Waterfront log home in Prince Edward County

Bedrooms 4
Space 2,500 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

4 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Log Cottage. 7 day minimum

This ideal all-season log cottage with its unique red roof and backs onto beautiful Weller's Bay, is exactly what you need for your getaway! WindHaven cottage is located close enough to all that Prince Edward County has to offer but just far enough away from any touristy hustle and bustle to ensure you get the peace and quiet you desire from a country or beach holiday. Only 25 minutes from breathtaking Sandbanks provincial park or just 10 minutes to a much less touristy but equally as beautiful, North Beach. Located right on the Taste Trail so that you can easily have access to the more than 30 winerys and restaurants that Prince Edward County has to offer.

WindHaven cottage is on 1.5 acres of landscaped grass surrounded by beautiful trees. Enjoy the ambiance of a log cottage with all the amenities of a home. One of the biggest features would be the beautiful unobstructed waterfront view. Take in the sights and and sounds of nature from the hammock, on the deck, down at the water's edge or even from the living room. This cottage comes fully furnished with two master bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs and two main floor bedrooms and bathroom. The master bedrooms each have a small balcony, ideal for a private morning coffee and a good book. There is also a loft area upstairs that has a balcony facing the front lawn. Other internal features include vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, open concept living room/kitchen/dining room area with a large beautiful harvest table. Directly off the dining area, double doors lead to a beautiful deck, with BBQ and patio furniture. The lake is ideal for family or individual sports such as boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating, kite boarding, windsurfing and more. Kids will enjoy splashing in the shallow water around the dock, or head out further into the lake to swim. The bottom of the lake is sandy and soft and relatively clean from weeds. Water shoes are a good idea but not necessary. Our cottage is also a fun rustic experience for a girls trip or a romantic getaway. Near by is a 40k bike trail that will take you all the way to the town of picton, with plenty of hiking trails, gallery's, shopping, and golfing. Or hire a limo to tour you around the county's finest vineyards. Boat rentals are available or bring your own boat which can be launched at the public boat launch located just minutes from the cottage and then kept at our private dock.

If winter is your holiday of choice the lake does freeze over periodically where you can skate, Cross Country ski, Kite ski, snow shoe or check out the local downhill skiing.

About Heather Young

We are family currently living in Ottawa but we fell in love with Prince Edward County. Our cottage provides us with much needed downtime and memories that we are creating with our 3 children.

Heather Young purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Heather Young chose Ontario

Our love of beautiful sandy beaches, vineyards, nature and wind sports and a small town feel has led us to want to spend time here throughout the year. Both private and Quiet. We hope that you can share in its beauty as well and fall in love with this beautiful part of Ontario.

What makes this cottage unique

Fall in love as we did with our impressive log cottage

with its red roof, and serene water view. The subtle scent of wood as you enter the house puts you immediately at ease so that you can disconnect and relax. Spend time on one of the three private balcony's, stay in style with large bedrooms. We find it to be an ideal layout for families to share on holiday. Take advantage of our canoe, stand-up paddle board, trampoline, or near-by public boat launch and our own private dock. We also happen to be along the taste trail! Private beach option for guests with a boat. 10 minutes from the less crowded North Beach. Park passes provided

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Heather, everything went great! Absolutely beautiful cottage (even better than the pictures) and weather. We caught lots of pickerel and bass for a wonderful Friday fish fry. We would like to keep in contact with you to book a week again next July once we know our work commitments. Thank you so much.

Perfect on the water get away.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is perfectly situated on Weller's Bay. Plenty of activities for kids of all ages. A small zip line, a small trampoline, a small tree fort, and off the main road so riding bikes was very easy. Not to mention, swimming, kayaking, fishing and campfires. Adults enjoyed morning coffee on the great dock watching the swans and other wildlife frolicking on the water. Trips into neighboring towns for shopping as well as a wine tour. We fished, tubed and toured the lake (with our own boat). The kitchen is well equip and easy to navigate. We had plenty of space and we were 10. Bedrooms were clean and beds were comfortable enough. The only issue we had was we wish we had more time:-). Very relaxing!!

wonderful family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family had the most wonderful stay at Windhaven. From the first day, and everyday, the children - aged 6 through 16 - asked if we could come back. Loved the zip line, the huge backyard, the beautiful home and lake. Our family has been a big fan of Prince Edward County for many years and are so happy to have found the perfect location to stay.

Just as described

  • 5 of 5

Windheaven cottage was a wonderful vacation spot. The view from the cottage was exceptional. Everything you will need is in this spacious, well maintained home. Our children enjoyed the very spacious land. The zip line, trampoline and multiple water accessories were and added bonus. Planning on booking again next year. Thanks Heather!

A brill chill out!

  • 5 of 5

First visit to eastern Canada and so lucky we found Prince Edward County. What a gorgeous and chilled out part of the world and despite the best efforts of the local mossies we had a cracking time.

Windhaven is a superbly sited, private and beautiful lodge right on the lake where we spent the vast majority of our week. Spent hours in the kayak and canoes in fruitless efforts to round up the geese or generally just mucking about! Beers on the shore line or round the fire pit at night cremating marshmallows are memories that will stay with us a lot longer than the mossie bites.

Shopping for food in Trenton or any of the closer road side shops so BBQ's ensured we ate and drank very well.

Windhaven is well equipped with plenty of space and very comfy on the patio, dining room or lounge. The only minor gripes being the beds are a bit squeeky and for a holiday rental the 'to do' list left upon departure was a wee bit heavy. In particular asking we take all recyclables (to Wales) although we did, eventually, find the only public recycling 18km away in Trenton.

That said it didn't spoil our stay and we had a fantastic week recharging batteries, drinking & eating very well and enjoying the brill location. It was a totally chilled out relaxathon.

For those like us virgins to the area PEC is gorgeous with two great beaches at Sandbanks and North Beach. Wish I'd taken my bike too as loads of great routes and unlike the UK motorists in PEC don't treat cyclists as moving targets. Had a couple of days out in Kingston (what a beautiful city!), Picton and Bloomfield which were very pretty and chilled places too.

Highlight of day trips however was Sandbanks Wine Tour where we got collected (by another Heather) in her 'boogey bus' and driven around a handful of local wineries with a handful of total strangers who by the end of the tour (and lots of wine later!) were all bessie mates and it was huge tears and hugs when tour ended 6 hours later. A huge thanks to our brilliant host Heather who even acquiesced under slight pressure to finish off the tour at a local brewery! A brilliant day which I would totally recommend. PS. The local wine is superb!!

A fantastic day topped off a great week and we'd (and that's 2 cruds in our early 50's, their daughters and their boyfriends all in the early 20's) would love to come back and we have no hesitation in highly recommending both PEC and Windhaven. Diolch yn fawr am y wyliau ardderchog.

Owner's Response: We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay in the county! It is a beautiful part of Ontario. Thank-you for the detailed review of your visit and experiences. I am sorry that you found the departure tasks a bit much however I assure you that it is necessary and typical of our type of rental to ensure the quality and cleanliness of the cottage for each guest. When it comes to things like the garbage or recyclables this can always be addressed per situation if we are contacted and we are more than happy to help. In this case it was obviously a little different with you being from outside the country. Our cleaner would have been willing to take care of them for you. We appreciate you taking the departure tasks seriously and it is very much appreciated.

We just returned from our second vacation at this lovely cottage. Our first visit was in winter which was a fairy-tale setting; our second visit in summer was just as magical!
