About Dex & Teresa Poindexter

We have been vacationing in the area for over 20 years and finally purchased a home in Colorado. We have 2 kids that are 15 and 17. They love it too! The sun is almost always shining and there are so many outdoor activities to keep us busy enjoying quality family time together. We would like to share that with you!

We enjoy traveling the world and have stayed in many VRBO properties in many countries. We are excited to have a home to share with other adventure lovers.

Dex & Teresa Poindexter purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Dex & Teresa Poindexter chose South Central Colorado

We had the opportunity to buy this 1928 Bungalow home in an area chocked full of history.

We feel this home has everything for a great vacation. It is very cozy to rest and renew. If you choose to keep busy that is available too! It is near the Arkansas River for world class fly fishing. There are plenty of trails to ride from the property. Hunting, Watching the wildlife, rock climbing, hiking, nearby whitewater rafting, etc. are all available here. There is truly something for everyone!

What makes this cottage unique

While the location is right on Highway 50 for convenience, it is so peaceful. The front porch is great for morning coffee and overlooking the Arkansas River. The mountains totally surround the property. Wildlife abounds!

There is no telling what wildlife you may see in the back yard from day to day. There are Mule deer and Big Horn Sheep that are always close by. Lots of red and gray fox that stop in from time to time. The resident rabbits are fun to watch as well. The winter months bring our Bald Eagles back to their nest across the river.

Teresa was absolutely amazing with all the information she so sweetly provided!

  • 5 of 5

The house was really big with more than enough room for our party of 8.

Having coffee and other necessities provided was a great perk. We loved sitting on the porch at night watching the stars twinkle and in the morning having our coffee.

We only wished we had a few more days to explore the surrounding towns more; ours was a short trip.

I highly recommend this host and the amazing property!

We will definitely be back!

A little piece of Heaven on Earth!

  • 5 of 5

The house is a beautiful piece of the past. Very nice condition and well maintained. None of us wanted to leave. The views, the quietness, the atmosphere, the river. Just not enough words. We will be back!

Not at all what I expected & FULL of ANIMALS!!!!

  • 1 of 5

The pictures were WAAAAAY nicer than the house itself. First off, it is right on a busy highway which is completely hidden in the listing. The home is full of stuffed animals that are pretty creepy. They were a little bit frightening for my kids. There were 6 of them! There were no screens on the windows for the nice fresh mountain air to be enjoyed. The whole house smelled a bit and the shower really didn't drain. The mountains are pretty but every view from the house had some sort of unpleasant item in it like a construction site. There was not access to the river. Any exploring we wanted to do was greatly hindered by the presence of TONS of sand burrs that were very pokey and were EVERYWHERE!!! Overall not impressed at all! I felt VERY deceived by the posting and the pictures.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry our home was not what you expected. The home is located in a high mountain desert. I'm sorry you didn't see the screens in the master closet. They slide in once window is opened. I have called to have the yard treated for "Goat Heads" as they are called locally- it is a constant battle. I'm also sorry you were offended by the animal mounts. Hope you were able to enjoy some of the fun things that are in the area on your trip.

Clean and cozy

  • 5 of 5

Cozy house with a beautiful view of the river! Loved that it is not in town, and located about half way between Salida and Canon City. We enjoyed day trips to Pikes Peak and the Royal Gorge and cool evenings around the fire pit at the house. Plenty of room for the 5 of us and having 2 bathrooms was nice as well. We would definitely consider staying there again and wish we could have stayed longer.

Remote and homey

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay in this cottage- kids loved the trampoline and the surrounding land was great for exploring. We enjoyed the fire pit 2 nights out of three and the rustic setting was perfect for a mountain get away. Some may lament hand washing dishes or be thrown by the taxidermy, but it all added to our experience.

The house we cute and close to my grandmother!

  • 4 of 5

Our boys (growing up in the city) thought the woodstove was awesome! We enjoyed hiking around in the back of the house and the views.

The back door lock was a bit tricky to engage and unengage.

Thank you!!
