We are located across from the World Famous rafting on the Arkansas River! The Arkansas River was recently deemed "Gold Medal rated waters" What that means for you is the Arkansas River is full of trout! We can also recommend trails to ATV and etc.

About Dex & Teresa Poindexter

We have been vacationing in the area for over 20 years and finally purchased a home in Colorado. We have 2 kids that are 14 and 16. They love it too! The sun is almost always shining and there are so many outdoor activities to keep us busy enjoying quality family time together. We would like to share that with you!

We enjoy traveling the world and have stayed in many VRBO properties in many countries. We are excited to have a home to share with other adventure lovers.

Dex & Teresa Poindexter purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Dex & Teresa Poindexter chose South Central Colorado

We had the opportunity to buy this 1928 Bungalow home in an area chocked full of history. We have compiled many books, movies, and newspaper clippings that were filmed or took place in the area for your enjoyment.

We feel this home has everything for a great vacation. It is very cozy to rest and renew. If you choose to keep busy that is available too! It is near the Arkansas River for world class fly fishing. There are plenty of trails to ride from the property. Hunting, Watching the wildlife, rock climbing, hiking, nearby whitewater rafting, etc. are all available here. There is truly something for everyone!

What makes this cottage unique

While the location is right on Highway 50 for convenience, it is so peaceful. The front porch is great for morning coffee and overlooking the Arkansas River. The mountains totally surround the property. Wildlife abounds!

There is no telling what wildlife you may see in the back yard from day to day. There are Mule deer and Big Horn Sheep that are always close by. Lots of red and gray fox that stop in from time to time. The resident rabbits are fun to watch as well. The winter months bring our Bald Eagles back to their nest across the river.

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect getaway for my family! The house is very well appointed. The kitchen has everything you might need when cooking. There was plenty of space... We could have easily brought another family with us! It is the perfect location... You can travel east to Canon City and Colorado Springs, or head west deeper into the mountains to Buena Vista and Leadville. The house is directly across from the Arkansas River and there is public access less than a mile from the house. Thanks Teresa and Dex for providing an awesome place for my family to unplug!

great Mountain retreat

  • 5 of 5

It was great to get away from it all if even for such a short time. After a "brief" moment of drama after my teenage daughter found out there was no WiFi or cell service it was quite peaceful. Children all playing together on the trampoline and tree house. The firepit was great to gather around for smores at night while the porch was wonderful for coffee in the morning. Overall it was a great adventure.

This property was a good place to stay at but it really needs to be deep cleaned. If it was clean it would of been perfect except for the fact that there was no wifi. Being business owners of 2 different businesses it was frustrating because we had to leave and go to town to communicate with our employees. The children had a lot of fun in the yard. Speaking with the owners who live in Texas was very much appreciated. They are very nice.

Exactly what was advertised and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Owners were wonderful to work with!

We rented the house to have family time and outdoor adventures. All happened as planned. It was nice to be away from the hustle of cities!! The boys enjoyed the trampoline. It was quite nice to have the basement room--quiet spot to catch a nap. The kitchen was well stocked for our needs (mama didn't cook, we nuked) and the table easily sat all of us for meals and card games.

A bonus was that we did not have cell service, but had even more family time than expected. We had been warned about spotty service in the canyon. We had our grandsons (17 and 14) with us and they adapted well to being unplugged, but their parents were not aware we would be out of touch and were worried when they could not contact any of us. Perhaps something in your ad to suggest that we let family know we might not have service would help guests avoid this situation. My brain did not translate spotty service to "let the parents know".

City folk are used to locking doors. I was a bit uneasy that I could not lock the front door other than with a latch chain. But the back door was a terrific coded entry. Liked that for sure!

Thanks for sharing your house with us, it was exactly what we needed!!

Nice little house

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this vacation home. The river was right across the street and the mountains were all around. The location provided a good base for our planned activities. We would definitely rent this house again if we return to the area.
