Historic home close to Colgate
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would recommend the house highly. A short ride to Hamilton/Colgate U. in a beautiful setting with river view. The house is well-maintained inside with tons of space for a group of up to 10. Between the living room, sunroom, deck and family room, we had more than enough space for socializing as well as curling up with a book. Warm and interesting history of the farm as well as an amazing non-fiction book collection. Responsive and welcoming owner. Well-stocked kitchen and linens, comfy beds and bedrooms. Very clean including bathrooms. Our only hesitation on 5 stars is that the listing does not make clear that there is a downstairs studio apartment in the house with a full-time resident. There is no open passage between the main house and the studio, but you are sharing the home with a tenant. Also, no dishwasher if that is important to you, especially with a larger group. We would happily return and recommend to others!

Lovely historic home - Warm and welcoming
We (family of four) spent a long weekend at the Armstrong House - and really didn't want to leave. When you enter, the house feels like a big, warm hug. This family estate is clearly loved and cared for very well. Very clean. Water cooler in kitchen VERY appreciated. Plenty of room for a big family to spread out - or two families - as each floor has a full bath (1.5 baths on main floor), and you could have one family on the main floor and another upstairs. Tons of space to find your own favorite chair or window seat to curl up and read. Tons of extra towels and pillows in the house. Really nice TV room. Kitchen is stocked with every possible cooking implement/appliance/utensil/pot/pan. Full size washer/dryer adjacent to kitchen super handy. Take time to enjoy coffee or a glass of wine on the back deck looking over the farmland. Very quiet at night - coming from a pretty urban environment, we actually ran a fan (there are many provided throughout the house) in our bedroom for some white noise - because it was too quiet :) ! Very convenient to Colgate and the village of Hamilton - both just a few minutes down the road. Owners are great communicators. HUGE non-fiction book collection throughout the house, plus a very nice selection of DVD movies. Big house with a cozy feel - I hope we have another occasion to return!
