Walks And Fires On The Beach: Wonderful Spot For Families & Friends

Making memories. That's what our guests have been doing — some for 18 years and counting.

Start your day with a sunrise walk to the lighthouse, and end your evening with a fire on the beach.

Our 4-bedroom, 2-bath Lake Michigan beach house is a special place to relax, regroup and rejuvenate.

The main level includes a large, open great room that combines kitchen, dining and living areas — a great space to enjoy your time with family and friends. Large windows and sliding glass door bring the outdoors in, with a beautiful lake view and easy deck/beach access. The kitchen has a large island with stove and stools and can make cooking a fun group activity. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, and includes a microwave and dishwasher. The comfortably furnished living room has a gas fireplace for cooler Door County nights, wireless access, plenty of board games, and a 42' television for indoor fun. On the deck, a gas grill and comfortable seating complete the setting for perfect evening meals.

The main level also includes a comfortable master bedroom with a walkout door to the deck, a small, cozy bedroom, nice for a child or single guest, and a bath with shower and tub.

The very private downstairs (ground level) has a spacious and bright family room with large windows and lake view, comfortable seating, television and a small desk. A great place to get away from the activity, or for the teenagers to crash. (ours have been known to turn it into a dormitory!) The downstairs also includes one queen bedroom, and one twin bedroom with a bathroom and shower.

About Barbara Wulf

My family grew up in Sturgeon Bay and after my father's passing my mother decided she needed a change. She fell in love with this house the minute she found it. The main level was pretty much finished. The downstairs was one big linoleum-tiled dorm room. She renovated the entire downstairs and added the garage. After she passed away, my brothers and I didn't want to give it up because we had enjoyed so much family time here -together and with kids-, so we decided to enjoy it when we can, and rent it out as well, letting others enjoy it as much as we do!

Barbara Wulf purchased this house in 1989

Why Barbara Wulf chose Sturgeon Bay

What I really like about the house is that it is very peaceful here, yet close enough to town (Sturgeon Bay) that it's easy to jump in the car and go get something to eat or pick up something at the grocery store that you forgot. When you're ready to jump into all that Door County has to offer, you can take a leisurely drive north up the shoreline or easily get on the highway to start your adventure for the day!

What makes this house unique

When I’m at the house one of my favorite things to do is to is have coffee on the beach and watch the sunrise. Then go for a walk down to Peggy’s Point, which is south, just past Portage park. Peggy was a friend of my mother’s and her house was just past the point. We would have picnics there when we were kids, so I have many fond memories of that spot. I also love to make simple lake lunches and eat on the deck, read a book and fall into a relaxing summer slumber....

October in Door County

  • 5 of 5

My wife Connie and I have been staying at The Abode the last four years for our anniversary. We love the house and being right on the water! Exploring Door County and catching a Packer game, relaxing walks down the shoreline make this a perfect place to spend our anniversary! Thank You Barb for your wonderful home and hospitality!

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have stayed here the past 3 summers and we are absolutely in love with our week away at the beach! The house is beautiful, clean, and very spacious, especially the large kitchen and living room's a favorite spot for family dinners and game nights. The wrap around deck is perfect for morning and evening coffee/drinks, and the private beach front is perfect for swimming and miles of beach walking. I love that we are close enough to the shops and wineries that Door County has to offer, but tucked away in the woods and beach so we can unwind and hear nothing but the waves. Barb is an absolute pleasure to work with, and we will definitely be back!

A dream come true!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks so much for providing a welcoming, beautiful, comfortable and peaceful abode – my stay was a dream come true! I was lucky enough to get a number of friends and family to come visit me at the abode during my three weeks and we were all very impressed by the house and amenities, the neighborhood and all the forest creatures (from fawns to wild turkeys!), as well as the setting in beautiful Door County! Barb’s restaurant and sight-seeing recommendations were all excellent – and I think we hit most of them (“goats on the roof” 4 times with my different guests was a big hit!!). The “Abode” was exactly as described – clean and every little thing we needed was there - I felt like I walked into the website pictures! And I got some beautiful photographs – even a sun rise, and an attempt to catch the neighborhood Bald Eagle – spectacular and unforgettable! Even the bad storm was amazing to watch from the house! Sure hope I can get back again sometime.

Beautiful Winter Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My extended family decided to head out to a secluded spot for the New Year celebration this year. The Abode was a perfect place to spend time even in the winter. The view was beautiful and my family and I spent a lot of time taking walks in the winter wonderland. In addition we loved cooking here (the kitchen is well stocked with lots of cooking equipment). We also spent a lot of time snuggled up next to the fire or playing games on the large dining table. We are hoping to make it back again to this beautiful vacation spot.

I almost hate to write a review on this Jewel because I wish we could keep it just for us, but I couldn't do that to Barbra who by the way is one of the BEST owners we have rented from. This was like a little piece of Heaven, on Tuesday we had a memorial service for my mother in law who passed, then on Wednesday we arrived to this beautiful home for our Thanksgiving was the perfect home to relax and reflect...we cooked our Thanksgiving dinner with all the dressings...we enjoyed the fire place making the home feel even more cozier if that is even possible..words can not explain how wonderful this home is and how AMAZING Barbra is, I felt like I found a long lost friend...and talk about how amazingly clean it is, it's just beautiful....we walked on the beach everyday collecting rocks from beautiful Lake MI...the lake is right out the door I mean steps away from the home...Thank you Barbra for sharing your beautiful amazing home with us we talk about it almost every night trying to figure out how soon we can get back......I would give this a million stars if I could!!!

Love this house!

  • 5 of 5

Our family absolutely LOVED this house! Nothing compares to waking up to gorgeous lake views every morning, having your own private beach all day, and relaxing by your own campfire every night. Barbara was super helpful, and the house was really clean and well-appointed (and I am a clean freak!). And it was so nice to be able to bring our dogs - really made the trip a complete family vacation! It felt more like we were staying at a friend's home than renting from a website. It was hard to leave at the end of our week, but we are so, so glad we stayed here and made such great memories. :)
