The Butano Canyon is a PRIVATE gated community.
Butano was my summer home growing up. I feel blessed to own a property here, embraced by nature and unplugged from electronics. We gain so much hanging out under the canopy. The redwoods are a environment of their own. From the wild flowers in the spots of sun, the crayfish and steelhead running the creek to the salamanders and stellar jays scattered in the wood. We take our time, hiking , biking and exploring the beaches, then relaxing by the fire with books and board games. It lifts away a venier, feeds the soul and recharges the human battery, even after a short visit.
Spent 2 nights at the cabin with another family (4 adults, 3 kids) and had a wonderful time.
The cabin is so much better than in pictures. I'm always skeptical about renting older properties because of the smell, old furniture and overall state - this is not the case at all. The cabin is very clean and taken good care of. We all had a blast on the tire swing and in the creek in the backyard, relaxed and BBQ'ed on the huge very private deck. Took a hike on the second day - amazing trails, lush greenery, very secluded. Comfy beds and nice linens; full kitchen. Very very cozy and nice. Will definitely recommend and return! Thank you, Linda!
Found this little gem to spend a birthday weekend among friends. The house is located in an area I didn't even know existed, the entire community is warm and inviting. The house is rustic and charming, but not without amenities. All of the redwood paneling and details have been left and the fireplace is gorgeous. We went during a time it wasn't necessary to light it and will be back during a rainy winter weekend so we can enjoy it while reading books and playing cards. The kitchen is well stocked, the towels were nice and fluffy, and our bedding was new. We didn't bring any children, but boy would they have been thrilled with the bunk room and its accessories. The deck is a good size and very well built...someone is quite the craftsman as I was admiring the cuts on the railings! We were visited by an entertaining group of Stellar Jays who love corn on the cob. The community is safe and makes for a great morning stroll...make sure you go all the way to the back and enjoy the original farmhouse past the bridge! Highlight of the stay was four adults playing on a tire swing trying to see who could spin the longest! We are now looking for our own little piece of heaven and hope to find something similar in the area :-) Thank you Linda!
Came here with 5 close friends (3 couples) from Fri-Sun. Cooked all of our meals at home and BBQ'ed on the deck. The inside of the cabin is much bigger than depicted in the photos. There's a beautiful stone fireplace right at the heart of the cabin that we kept lit basically the entire time we were home. So cozy.
The owner Linda is extremely organized and makes herself available for any questions. Within minutes of emailing her on the first night, she called us on the house line to answer questions. Everything in the kitchen is labeled and thus very easy to find, and Linda even has a binder ready for you with instructions for fireplace/BBQ, pizza menus, and nearby attractions. We went to Ano Nuevo for the day on Saturday, which was really amazing. However, you really do not have to leave the cabin, since it is located in a beautiful forest of redwoods. The cottage is so nice and cozy, especially in the rain. Highly recommend!
5 of us spent the weekend at this lovely, comfortable, and well-appointed cabin in the middle of a redwood forest. Only an hour from San Jose, SF or Berkeley/Oakland, this 3BR/2BA refuge from our normally hectic lives was just what the doctor ordered. We cooked our meals in the large and unusually well-appointed kitchen, and spent afternoons on the large deck overlooking a tranquil creek. A mere 20 minutes from both the quaint town of Pescadero as well as Butano State Park, we went on an enjoyable 6 mile hike in the redwoods of Butano and also were able to take advantage of the charming shops and eateries of Pescadero. The "Red Cabin" will definitely be our go-to place on the beautiful San Mateo coast from now on.
A perfect weekend getaway! I never wanted to leave the back deck. Looking at the birds by day and stars that shine so bright at night! The cabin was so warm and inviting. Bring lots of food and goodies because you won't want to leave during your stay!!!
Property was clean, kitchen equipment was stocked, everything was working, the owners were very helpful and left great instructions, and the house was even roomier inside than it seemed in the photos (how often does that happen?). I even fit comfortably in the loft bed (6' 3"). Would visit again!
Located on a private road in a redwood forest, adjacent to Butano Creek.
