Fantatsic Historical Home

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful historic home in the middle of everything going on in Gettysburg. It was great spending time with family in a home that created the feeling of being back in the 1800's. Even better was walking out the front door onto the historic town to visit all of the sights, ghost tours and shopping in the square. What a great time to visit with all of the holiday activities and Christmas decorations. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Coming Home

  • 5 of 5

We return to our home town every year to participate in the Christmas Wreath Project sponsored by the Sgt Mac Foundation. This year was special because we returned with seventeen family members and friends. Nine were originally scheduled to stay at the Barclay House, but three were unable to join us. Other family members stayed in a house in Aspers but joined us often for meals. The house was perfect for our needs and just happened to be 80 yards from 336 Baltimore St. where my wife grew up in the Forties. We shall return.

Fantastic accommodations in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

7 of us stayed at the Barclay House for Veterans Day weekend. This is the 4th time in the last 3 years we have visited Gettysburg, but the 1st time we did not stay at the Hampton Inn. I would go back to the Barclay House in a heartbeat because Tessa and Brian (owners) were very kind, and the location is unbeatable! We could walk to all the major sites (drove to the battlefield because we had a private 3 hour tour with Stuart Dempsey) within minutes. If you choose to do a private battlefield tour, Stuart is an encyclopedia of knowledge.

The house was fully stocked for all of our needs, the beds were comfortable, and we all felt at home. Very safe area, with a garage to park our car, and an additional car right outside the garage. We will stay here again next time we visit. Thank you from Cleveland!!

We had a lovely weekend at the Barclay House. Everything was spotlessly clean, and there was nothing lacking that we would have needed. We did not cook, but had ample utensils and containers for snacking and breakfasts. We enjoyed sitting on the porch on busy Baltimore Street and the house is centrally located to everything we needed (Battlefield, Visitor's Center, our favorite restaurants). Only negatives is the constant traffic noise at night (from busy Baltimore Street), and we really missed having The Weather Channel during Hurricane Matthew, not for ourselves, but to keep tabs on friends in the danger area. Overall, we had a wonderful, comfortable stay. Thanks Brian and Tessa!

Great place and Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Our four couple group really enjoyed the 4 night stay at the Barclay House. If you like an old, traditional style home that has been completely restored to its original condition, the Barclay House is your place. The home is very spacious but warm and comfortable. With three distinct gathering places plus the kitchen and dining room, the downstairs design and furnishings allow both small and large gathering places. The upstairs bedrooms are large and comfortable and the expansive upstairs hallway gives every room an element of privacy. We also had many conversations and gatherings on the back porch and well maintained backyard. Overall, the property is spotless and well cared for.

The location is excellent. A short walk gets you to the town center as you stroll past many historic homes and buildings from the Civil War period. Its a quick and easy drive to all the major attractions. You can walk to many excellent restaurants. Make sure you get some home-made ice cream a few blocks east of the house.

Parking for more than 2 cars is a bit of an issue. Paid street parking is available but not overnight. There is a large school parking lot behind the house and down a hill where we left 2 cars. It worked fine but more information should be provided on the website, especially for anyone with mobility issues. Baltimore Street is a very busy main thoroughfare that can be quite busy and noisy during the day and occasionally at night. The house is well equipped for cooking and serving but be prepared to bring items like spices, condiments, napkins, paper towels.

Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and would highly recommend the Barclay House for your Gettysburg visit.
