Nelson Gay sits within two acres of manicured gardens of lush tropical vegetation and boasts its own half mile of pristine, white sandy beach. Constructed entirely of coral stone in the grand Palladian manner, many original features have been retained, including the floors that were designed by Oliver Messel and 14 foot ceilings in the living room. The decor is luxurious, light and airy, and includes many antiques and works of art.
The large, private Italian tiled swimming pool features night lighting and the large, safe swimming area immediately in front of the house is roped off with buoys bordered by a reef perfect for snorkeling. An eighty-foot terrace overlooks the pool, garden and sea, and offers a stylishly furnished covered seating area, al-fresco dining for twenty guests, and a smaller dining area for eight. A Chinese styled dining gazebo contains a wet bar and fridge as well. Two further terraces extend from the north and south bedroom wings.
The marble floored entrance hall opens to the living area, with 14′ ceilings and an unobstructed view of the pool, the gardens and the sea. Two wings flank the main living area, hosting the professionally equipped kitchen, formal dining room, media room and five bedrooms. The formal twelve seated glass-topped dining room table was designed by Oliver Messel for candlelit romatic dining. Accommodations at Nelson Gay Villa consist of five air-conditioned bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom, in the main house wings and a sixth air-conditioned bedroom, also with private bathroom, in the cottage. These six bedrooms host eleven guests. Additional sleeping accommodations are available in the chattel houses or by converting the media room, allowing Nelson Gay to host up to 18 guests, on request, and at additional charge.
Combining the charm of Palladian architecture with modern amenities, and fully staffed for convenience, Nelson Gay makes for a spacious, elegant and comfortable Barbados retreat for extended families or groups of friends.
