Sitting over 300 feet off the road the long driveway leads you through birch trees, pines and ferns to the Torch River A-frame. This classic cottage is tucked away on the river's edge in a great location on the Antrim Chain of Lakes and just a mile from beautiful Torch Lake. The sand bar is just minutes away by water from the dock out front where you can keep your boat during your stay.

There's a small deck at the rear entrance which opens into the kitchen, featuring granite counter tops with seating area, stainless appliances and modern amenities including a dishwasher. The view of the river is immediately visible looking through the the house towards the living room. There is a small laundry room off the kitchen and a large full bathroom with tub on the main floor.

The open living room features a natural stone fireplace and sliding glass door which opens onto a deck just feet from river's edge and a few steps away from the dock. The living room features leather furniture for lounging on including a comfortable sleeper sofa. The opposite side of the room has a HDTV, stereo & a DVD player.

The spiral stairway leads to the second floor which has 2 comfortable bedrooms and a bathroom with shower. The master bedroom over looks the river and features a Queen bed. The back bedroom includes a full bed, two twins. The third floor is accessed by a compact stairway and has a small bedroom to either side, it's a fairly tight space but affords awesome birds eye views of the surrounding scenery giving the feel of being in a tree house.

It as a great spot for bird and wildlife watching as well as beautiful sunsets over the trees. About Scott

We grew up spending summers on the rivers and lakes around the state, we now reside in West Michigan. I've always loved boating, biking and traveling. I was introduced to the Antrim Chain of Lakes many years ago & fell in love the first time I laid eyes on the amazing teal blue waters of Torch Lake and the miles of beautiful waterway's.

Scott purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Scott chose Northern Michigan

We have been visiting the Torch Lake and Bellaire area for years and dreamt of some day owning a place on the chain of lakes. Nearly every time boating on the chain of lakes my we commented how nice and peaceful the rivers were & if we ever had a chance to buy in the area that would be ideal. In 2011 we were blessed with an opportunity to buy a little piece of paradise in what we feel is one of the most peaceful locations on the chain of lakes, close to the sand bar but just far enough away that you're not disturbed by the noise of boats speeding around the lakes.

Although we'd like to spend everyday at the A-Frame we're happy to be able to share this little piece of paradise with others that want to live a little bit of the dream.

What makes this cottage unique

Its hard to find a nicer spot on the chain of lakes to enjoy some of the best boating and fishing the state has to offer. With Elk and Torch lake so close but away from the occasional rough waters that can develop it is a great location that touches on the best of everything the area has to offer. Being 5 minutes from the Torch Sand Bar and 20 miles from Traverse while feeling miles away from everything is hard to match. Having the ability to boat up to Dockside on the Clam River for lunch or cruise over to Elk Rapids for the afternoon is really nice. Just sitting back at the rivers edge watching the water flow by and boaters pass is a relaxing enjoyable experience.

Torch River A-Frame

  • 5 of 5

The house was great, no A/C but that's not a problem unless you're staying on the third floor and the owners stock plenty of fans. The location is great, just a short boat ride to either lake. The kitchen is well stocked with pretty much anything you'll need. Very close to the marina where we rented a nice pontoon. It's definitely a nice place to get away, very pretty home!!

Everything you need!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the A-Frame and had a great time! The home is much bigger than it looks on the outside! There is plenty of room downstairs for having dinner, watching TV, playing board games or just relaxing. You won’t need to bring a thing except food and clothes – the owner’s thought of EVERYTHNG! The location is fantastic, very private and scenic. A huge deck, fire ring and private dock offer plenty of room for cookouts and making smores! We kayaked over to Torch Lake and rented a boat to explore other lakes near by. Being from Ohio, I was stunned by the crystal clear water! Everyone was very friendly and laid-back; we even met a local swan family who came up to have lunch with us. But be careful, these wild beauties are not shy and will bite if you get too close!! I hope to go back very soon.

Torch River Retreat

  • 4 of 5

This little A Frame was as advertised. It's cozy and comfortable and the view is fantastic. It was clean and well maintained and the owners were easy to work with.

It says it sleeps 10 which is true but it would be pretty close quarters and require someone sleeping on the pullout downstairs. Next time were in the area we plan to rent again!

Torch River A-Frame

This was the a great place to rent as far a the river goes. The accommodations were great and it was nice to have a washer and dryer in house. Plenty of pots and pans to prepare our food, a nice selection of free DVDs to entertain on those rainy days we had. Spacious main floor for everybody to sit at and relax. Fun was had by all!!!

Beautiful secluded wooded acre lot on the Torch River as it widens approaching Torch Lake. A short boat ride or paddle up river to the famous Torch Lake Sand Bar. The location is an ideal home base for boating and fishing the beautiful Elk River Chain of Lakes with a DNR boat launch just 1/3 of a mile down the street. You can keep your boat docked just 35 feet from the front door while being less than a mile from the amazing coral blue waters of Torch Lake to the north and Lake Skegemog and Elk Lake to the south.

Downtown Alden is just 5 miles away, a quick boat or bike ride away.

If you enjoy gambling or are looking for some evening entertainment the Turtle Creek Casino is just a 15 minute drive away. One of our favorite destinations is Short's Brewery in Bellaire where you can sample some of the best brew's anywhere and get a growler to bring back and enjoy on the deck while bird watching or having a fire by the river's edge.

There are some great restaurants in and on the way to Elk Rapids which is 20 minutes away by car or take the boat and dock at the Elk River marina.

It is 20 miles to Traverse City where you can enjoy many opportunities for dining, entertainment and more.

The A-frame is ideal for kicking back, relaxing on the rivers edge and experiencing the peaceful tranquility of Northern Michigan in a private wooded setting that is hard to find an inland lake.
