Great house overlooking the Sacramento River and private dock

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,800 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Boat in or drive to 3 bedroom, 2 bath located on the Sacramento River

This newly renovated home is located on Long Island just off of Grand Island in the Sacramento River Delta. There are 3 queen bedrooms and 2 baths on two levels overlooking the river. In addition, there is a sleeper sofa for overflow for total sleeping space for 8. For the warm summer, an outdoor shower is privately located just under the main deck. Well behaved family pets are welcome, although the yard is not fenced. TV, satellite and wi-fi are available along with hundreds of VHS tapes and DVDs. The house has private docks both on the river and in back on the slough (or the dredge cut as it's known), so boat in or put the boat in the water at one of several nearby launch ramps. Fish off the docks or relax on the covered deck while watching the local skiers and fishermen work the water out front. Wood fire pit and comfortable outdoor furniture allows our guests to fully enjoy the weather at any time of year. There is an office set up in the lower bedroom, just in case you need to keep in touch while you're away.

About Martha Pearson

We bought this house as a fishing shack and to have a berth for our 32' Erickson sailboat and have remodeled extensively in the years since. In fact, we lived in this house while reworking the house next door --where we live today. We are boaters who enjoy all the Delta has to offer and this house puts you so close to the water, you'll never want to leave. At least that was our story and why we moved from Sacramento. We are also active private pilots and involved in Sacramento real estate.

Martha Pearson purchased this house in 1996

Why Martha Pearson chose Central Valley California

Life is just better on the water --and you can't get any closer than this. The view, the immediate access to the water activities we enjoyed were why we chose this place to call home. If you don't do anything but sit and enjoy the view of the river, you'll be entertained by the water skiers and island is qient and charming with really nice neighbors. This kitchen in this house is a dream and stocked well with good quality appliances, dishes and cookware. If you're looking to cook up a few fancy meals while you're with us and wonder about specific items, just ask and we'll see what we can do to accommodate. We always stock the basics but include coffee, tea, spices, foil and plastic wrap as well. There is usually something edible in the yard --the Delta is known for it's lush abundance, and this property is no exception. We encourage our guests to take advantage of what we grow which will obviously change with the seasons.

What makes this house unique

Being on the water with your own dock means that you can take a quick water ski run, or fish a little then relax a while only to do it again without the hassle of taking the boat in and out of the water. The Delta is beautiful and this location is convenient to the Grand Island Mansion and the Ryde Hotel, both wonderful wedding venues. Isleton is about two miles and Walnut Grove about 10 miles. Delta fishing is awesome and this is great water for skiing -- right out front. From either of the two decks overlooking the water, the line between inside and out is deliberately blurred so you're encouraged to spend the days with the doors wide open to the great Delta weather. For cooler months, there is a cozy gas fireplace and heated floors to make things comfortable.

While the Delta is a relatively quiet and secluded area, this home is located in a neighborhood setting on a private island. There are approximately 30 homes, most of which are vacation homes. We strongly suggest all visitors bring appropriate life jackets and insist children wear them while outdoors. There is water everywhere and an accident due to inattention is a real risk.

Beautiful home, amazing location

  • 5 of 5

We were in the delta for a wedding at the Grand Island Mansion. Our stay at Martha's home made for convenience and a tranquil place to rest and get together with our family since we all live out of state. I highly recommend booking this home for a get away from the city and for rest and relaxation.

The Delta Done Right

  • 5 of 5

Boating on the Delta is a boater's treat but quality lodging options are hard to find. This charming gem of a home solves that problem and gives the visitor the best of everything that the Delta has to offer. It is right on the water with its own boat dock; it has two comfortable decks - one off of the living dining area and one off the master bedroom - to relax and watch the river flow past. It features a well equipped gourmet kitchen and beautifully furnished rooms each with little touches that instantly makes you say "this place is great." Located in a small enclave of charming river homes on Grand Island this is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the Delta in style. We will definitely be coming back!

Lovely Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

What a slice of paradise to stay in this amazing home! It was like a dream. Being on the river was great, but getting to come back to this place every day was the best of all. Lots of light in this home, and it is decorated very well. Spectacular views of the river. Beds were so comfortable. Martha and Robert are wonderful people who are wonderful to work with.

Gorgeous views, water access, equipped with everything.

  • 5 of 5

The home is Pottery Barn-perfect, thoughtfully appointed, and stocked with everything you can imagine.

The kitchen is spacious, with a ton of cabinets, a cook’s stove, and has an open concept layout to the living room, so we could talk, eat, or play music while we were preparing food or hanging out together.

The kitchen had everything but a lighter, which we had for the BBQ, so we were in good shape – and we left the lighter behind for you ;)

But seriously, the kitchen had everything: a crock pot, a dishwasher, abundant plates and glasses, plastic for leftovers, everything from a cheese grater to a fondue pot – everything!

The décor is cottage fabulous. And the master bathroom is like walking into a catalog for Restoration Hardware. Cute, cute, cute.

The thoughtful touches are wonderful: two robes in each bedroom, bathrooms stocked with supplies, beach towels (luckily, because we forgot ours), everything (you'll notice, that's a theme).

Located right on the Sacramento River, the views are gorgeous, from the living area and the master bedroom above.

There are two docks, one in the front, and one in the back that gets less action from fast-driving boater traffic.

We had moderate weather, which we were glad about. The home is equipped with two “evaporative coolers,” which are swamp coolers. If the weather had been hotter, I’m not sure the swamp coolers would have been enough.

The master bathroom isn’t en suite. That bathroom has access doors from a landing area and from the non-master bedroom, and both of those doors are pocket doors, which probably only bothered me. We made rules about entering and exiting so we didn’t walk in on each other, but I always felt a little bit at risk of being exposed.

The doors to the master bedroom are barn doors but didn’t have handles or indentations on the bedroom side of the doors, so a little hard to open and close from the bedroom. And the traffic noise from the road across the river was a little load, so we weren't as likely to leave the doors and windows open overnight as we otherwise would have been.

Overall, a wonderful place on the water to spend time with friends and family.

We have stayed at this beautiful home several time over the past few years, and it's simply wonderful! The location is unique in the Delta; on a private island with about 30 nice homes. The kitchen, living room, deck and master bed room look out over a wide section of the Sacramento River. There are two docks, one on the wide portion of the river, and one between the island and the levy wall, which is super calm. The house is comfortable and well stocked, and very well taken care of. Martha is has been great; responsive, helpful, warm and friendly. We will continue to come back each year.

Another great stay at Martha's

  • 5 of 5

My second stay at Martha's was to celebrate my bday with my father and brothers. We had an incredible time. As expected the house was in great shape, the fishing was good and the weather was perfect. Martha allowed us to check in early and made sure we were comfortable throughout the trip. we had everything we needed and had no regrets whatsoever. This home is a real gem and martha is an excellent host.
