About Richard

I have been an active outdoors person all my life. I enjoy gardening, hikes, animal watching and many more outdoor activities.

Richard purchased this house in 2007

Why Richard chose Northern Michigan

This property is one of the best in the area with many outdoor activities. Close to Traverse City and many tourist hot spots it can't be beat!

What makes this house unique

I purchased this vacant property in 2005 and camped on it for 2 years on and off to get a feel for the land before I built on it. I believe the location of the home and its surrounding land makes it a great vacation spot for all.

This house was great!! We golfed, kayaked, went to traverse city: shopped, rented bikes, hung out on the water, checked the dunes & torch lake, and chartered a boat. Amazing time!!

Going Back Next Year!

  • 5 of 5

This is a couple weeks late, but I just wanted to post about Richard's wonderful home a little bit SE of TC. It is roomy and clean - comfortable and on a beautiful piece of property. We met Richard the first night of our stay and he was beyond helpful and gracious. Did too many things in and around the area to list - but we didn't get to kayak - that is a must for next summer. There were two couples and we are already looking forward to next summer. Can't wait to go back. Thank you, Richard!

Great location near attractions. The house is magnificent. If you are searching for a vacation rental, search no more. This one will not disappoint. Very clean and stocked with everything you may need. Richard gave us a ride up river and we kayaked to the property. We also visited the sand dunes, fished from the bridge, had smores by a bonfire and had a beach day. Had a good time downtown and dined at Sleder's, where kissing the moose is optional. Life is all about making memories and this property certainly did that.

The house with everything

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I joined friends from Indiana for a week at Richard's house along the Boardman River. First impressions are everything and we were duly impressed with a house that had all the modern conveniences and was very, very clean. Richard received a telephone call that we had arrived and was at the house about one minute later (no kidding) to show us around. Very congenial and extremely helpful. I fished and caught only five- to six-inch brook and brown trout. I fished hard but the larger trout eluded me. We enjoyed the region during the week and had pretty good weather. Only disappointment was lack of wildlife.

What a relaxing week!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in Traverse City & were extremely pleased with Richard's home and his hospitality. He greeted us upon arrival to show us around the house, and made himself available if we ever had any questions or wanted to borrow tubes/lake equipment, etc. He also had several helpful suggestions and recommendations that helped us plan out our week! The house itself was very spacious and extremely clean, everyone slept comfortably. It was great to relax by the fire pit and on the deck- all of the kids & grandkids really had a blast staying in a "house in the woods." Would definitely come back!

Beautiful and Clean

  • 5 of 5

Excellent location on the Boardman River. Richard was wonderful to work with. The house was the cleanest property I've ever stayed at - as clean, if not cleaner, than any hotel. There wasn't a speck of dust in the house. There are bugs, birds, and nature around the house but it is part of the beauty of staying tucked back in the woods.

Everything you needed in the house was there, lots of towels, lots of pots, pans, cups, etc. The only thing that was missing was black pepper, lol. And each time we went to the store, we forgot to get some for ourselves. There was a nice fire pit but, we never had a chance to light up the bonfire. There was plenty of wood and the pit was situated perfectly right next to the river.

I took an hour or two to go fishing and Richard was great in explaining where the fishing holes were, and how to access them. I've never fished for trout before, but over the couple hours I did get a chance to fish (we had a 1 year old with us) I was able to net 7 trout.

As a bonus, if you've never done a kayak river trip, I recommend it. Richard dropped us off for a two hour ride and almost to the minute it was two hours. This included my sister running into a tree and tipping over, and a potty break along a bank. We almost decided to pay for a river canoe, kayak trip since we were at the Platt River one day but got too busy and asked Richard for a trip the next day. For the price of free, the views are amazing, the service friendly, and whole experience just right.

Thanks, Richard, for an amazing time. The house is beautiful and I wouldn't hesitate to go back!

Located on the beautiful Boardman River just min. away from historic downtown Traverse City. Many wonderful restaurants, wineries, golf courses, and shops just to name a few of the many things available to do and see in the area. Great boating and fishing, hiking and kayaking. We have the Cherry Festival in July, Horse show in July, Movie Festival after that and many, many events thru-out the spring, summer, and fall. And don't forget about the fall colors. There is no better place to see them than on the River! There is plenty of wildlife in the area, lots to do and see right in this beautiful home's backyard! Enjoy a bonfire by the river and watch the night sky for northern lights and satelites!
