I have been an active outdoors person all my life. I enjoy gardening, hikes, animal watching and many more outdoor activities.
Richard purchased this house in 2007
This property is one of the best in the area with many outdoor activities. Close to Traverse City and many tourist hot spots it can't be beat!
I purchased this vacant property in 2005 and camped on it for 2 years on and off to get a feel for the land before I built on it. I believe the location of the home and its surrounding land makes it a great vacation spot for all.
A beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature. Secluded but close to everything Traverse City has to offer. Richards' home(s) and property are beautiful. The only noise you hear is the sound of the birds, rabbits and deer that traverse the property. Oh! ... And the sound of the Boardman River in the front of the home. The home is beautiful, clean and well stocked. We enjoyed the hot tub on the rear deck, the BBQ grill on the large front deck, the nice fire pit near the river and kayaking on the Boardman River. Richard(the owner) is kind, gracious and very hospitable. He drove us upriver with his kayaks and we kayaked back to our front door. A great 2 hr. float. Location of the property is fantastic. Traverse City, Elmbrook g.c. The Crown g.c. Terra Firma brew pub, Boones Inn. The bike paths are great. Acme to Traverse City, Traverse City to Sutton's Bay are beautiful paved trails. All within a 20 minute drive. This is a great place to relax and kick back or to get out and explore the T.C. area. Our party of six would definitely return. D.M.D Brownstown, Mi. Sept.7-12, 2016 ps. Thanks again! Richard. We had a great time.
Such a beautiful place and land. I loved waking up and relaxing on the porch, drinking coffee, and listening to nature around you.
We chose this house because of the privacy. We were on our honeymoon and we wanted something peaceful to help us relax after the bustle of the wedding.
From the moment you drive towards the cottage, you feel a sense of rest and relaxation. It's as if nature has wrapped you in a warm embrace. It just feels like home. Better described, it feels like the place you wish was your home. It's beautifully designed with a mixture of woods, leather, fabrics, stone all drowning in natural light. Everything is top-of-the-line from the appliances to the shower and hot tub and finally the towels.
Richard was a great host. He is naturally very laid back. He gave us our space and at the same time was available via text or phone almost instantly. He allowed us to use his kayaks and even drove us to a drop-off point where we then kayaked back to the cottage. He was available with suggestions for things to do and places to eat but never felt intrusive.
We sat on the balcony every morning and listened to the river. It was heaven. We were so disappointed when it was our time to leave. Thank you for a great first week of our honeymoon, Richard. It was exactly what we needed.
We recently stayed at Richards lovely home for a week during the Traverse City Film Festival. It was a lovely well equipped retreat, that made a great "home base" for all our adventures in the area. There is so much to do and see in Traverse City and the surrounding areas but it is always nice to have a comfortable place to come back too after a long day of exploring. We enjoyed the beautiful large deck overlooking the Boardman River, the private hot tub, and the steam shower is the best ever! Our family also enjoyed the ping pong table and kayaking down the river on a lovely summer morning! Nature abounds at this lovely restful retreat! Close to wineries, breweries, beaches, and restaurants! Well appointed kitchen with everything you need, lots of comfy beds! Great place for a family retreat. Richard was a great host, and we would highly recommend his lovely home to anyone looking for a place to stay in the Traverse City area.

We just arrived back home after a wonderful week at Richard's stunning cabin. We highly recommend this rental! In person is more beautiful than photos! We had two families with young kids, and all loved every moment. The location is close to downtown Traverse City with great shops, restaurants, and beaches, but privately tucked away in the woods. Richard was so pleasant and easy to work with and offered great suggestions for places to see with the kids.
The cabin was definitely high quality! You won't be disappointed! It's your own hotel in the woods! Inside furnishings and appliances were all high end (large washer and dryer came in handy with kids), the hot tub was perfect with views of the forested state land behind home, and all rooms except bathrooms face the front yard overlooking the creek and river! This home even had a gorgeous steam shower with rain showerhead. We enjoyed fires right on the river, BBQS on the spacious deck (the Dads loved that grill), and kayaked one of my new favorite rivers! The house even has cable, but our kids hardly even used it (wow)!
The kids loved the huge bunk bed, cool "nest" chair, running around the grass and paths, fishing from the property, waving to friendly kayakers passing by on river, and all the wonderful wildlife! The parents loved everything...especially a break to kick back and watch the kids enjoy the land and house as much as we did.
Thank you, Richard!!!
After an initial surprise at running out of black topped drive, the last quarter mile of gravel drive opened to reveal a most beautiful home, outstanding setting and a home equipped with everything anyone could want. The owner, Richard Becker, was there to greet us, explain what we needed to know and, in general, make us feel 100% welcome. While our reason for the visit to T.C. was primarily a memorial for my late wife, it was also designed to provide a week of quality time with our entire family (coming from Colorado, California, Florida, D.C.,and Michigan). The property provided a gorgeous setting for the more serious part of the memorial, and, at the same time, more than adequate space for people to relax and mingle. While only a short drive to T.C., one could be as secluded as one wished. The only downside, if it could be called that, was the noise.... the rabbits and deer walking about, the birds singing and the constant noise of the water flowing down the Boardman River. On my next trip to Traverse City, there is only one place I would consider renting... right here at Richard's little slice of heaven.
Located on the beautiful Boardman River just min. away from historic downtown Traverse City. Many wonderful restaurants, wineries, golf courses, and shops just to name a few of the many things available to do and see in the area. Great boating and fishing, hiking and kayaking. We have the Cherry Festival in July, Horse show in July, Movie Festival after that and many, many events thru-out the spring, summer, and fall. And don't forget about the fall colors. There is no better place to see them than on the River! There is plenty of wildlife in the area, lots to do and see right in this beautiful home's backyard! Enjoy a bonfire by the river and watch the night sky for northern lights and satelites!
