About Tom Griffin

Kelly and Tom Griffin live in Richmond, VA with our 2 daughters, 5 and 8. Tom's a huge lover of surf fishing, and we are both life-long OBX fans....and this is our little dream cottage -- welcome!

Tom Griffin purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Tom Griffin chose Outer Banks

We purchased the cottage in 2012 from Matthew Norman, a renowned local artist who actually ran his art studio from this very cottage. We fell in love with it instantly, and the cottage is decorated with many original works done by the former owner.

What makes this cottage unique

Old Nags Head charm, 100 paces to beach, surf fishing, hot tub, outdoor shower, pet-friendly, fenced-in backyard with grass and landscaping, covered front sitting porch, and 8 doors down from Tortuga's restaurant!

Excellent location & great yard for dogs

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at The Fishin Griffin with our dogs. The layout of the house worked perfectly for us, and the dogs enjoyed the large yard. It was located close to two beach accesses, plus a restaurant, pier and tavern were within easy walking distance. The property was clean and very well maintained, the bed/mattress was comfy, and we appreciated the on-site washer/dryer, coffee maker, and double bathroom sink. The owner was great about texting us and answering any questions we had. Great time & would highly recommend The Fishin Griffin!

Great time at the Fishin' Griffin!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect for our stay! As other reviewers have said, the yard is amazing for a dog--and a preschooler! We ended up spending more of our vacation time at the cottage than planned, just because it was so comfortable and relaxing to make meals and hang out--in the yard and inside. If you do venture out, the location is great. We were close to hiking, sand dunes, even the aquarium was only a 20 min drive.

We have a 65 LB dog, and the yard was great--we even found a tennis ball in the beach toys for him to play with!

The beach is very accessible, with two public beach access points less than a block in each direction, but as with all properties when you cross Virginia Dare, it is tough with traffic. For me, alone with a 3 yr old and a dog, it was sometimes difficult. The location of the property near two crosswalks makes it easier.

This was our first visit to Outer Banks, and we definitely will be back to stay in the Fishin Griffin!

Fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location, true Nags Head cottage with everything that we needed. Walking distance to ice cream, great restaurants, and easy beach access. So nice to be able to bring our dogs with us. They loved the backyard. Highly recommend! The outdoor shower was a nice addition when trying to share the one bathroom with two teenage girls!

Perfect size for our family and dog

  • 5 of 5

This little cottage was the perfect size for our family and dog. Very close to two public accesses to the beach, which was wonderful. The fenced in backyard was a plus for us, because it made it so nice to just let the dog out and play in the yard as well. The house was very well stocked with everything we needed, including the buggy to carry all of the chairs and boogie boards to the beach. With having kids, the only thing we were missing was having a pool to swim in for the late afternoon and evening hours, but we knew that when we rented it. We would definitely rent again and recommend to our friends and family.

Nags Head Pet Friendly Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had no trouble getting in and getting settled in this little cottage. The property is a bit older but very clean and neat. The kitchen has everything you need to cook should you want to eat in, the Austin Fish Co. is very close and great for getting fresh seafood. The yard is great for pets and very convenient with the outdoor shower and the hot tub is a bonus! Beautiful fig trees, too bad it wasn't fig season during our stay! The walk to the beach is super easy. The location is great for a lot of activities on the Outer Banks. The owners are great and respond very quickly to any inquiries. Stay here - You won't be disappointed!

Nags Head's Pet Friendly Treasure

  • 5 of 5

We arrived late but had no trouble getting in and getting settled. The cottage is wonderful. Once we got settled and found where everything was, we felt at home, even our dog made himself right at home. The cottage had everything we needed and more. We had a record breaking heat wave that week, but the ocean water was warm and the waves were low so swimming was enjoyable. I really enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub at night with the twinkle lights and tiki torches. Our dog really enjoyed the big yard. We did get to enjoy the fresh figs(yum), shopping at unique stores, dining out, and just relaxing. I would highly recommend this cottage to family or friends looking to vacation in Nags Head. The beach accesses are so close it was very easy to get there and the Lucky 12 has great food and is walking distance from the cottage. There are so many shops and restaurants within a short drive and I would recommend the Cotton Gin shop to anyone looking for great gifts and souvenirs.

We front the beach road in the historic section of old Nags Head. Our cottage and many of the others are 75+ years old, so this area will provide the 'old school' beach experience!

We are only 100 yards from 2 beach access points. And Tortuga's Lie, the best and most fun restaurant in the OBX, is only 6 doors away! The Nags Head Pier is a quarter mile away and the Lucky Tavern is a great sports bar that's only 250 yards away from cottage.

This area is also in the area known as the Nags Head Gallery Row Arts District with several galleries within 2 miles of our cottage.

Of course, the 'bypass' is only 4 streets over and offers every shopping, eating, and recreational imaginable for you and your family.
