MOUNTAIN VIEW SHORES is a lovely development with many year-round homes, it features a private boat ramp area where you may park your boat trailer for the duration of your stay. It has paved roads and central water system. Ideal for walkers and joggers. Lake location is supreme being near the mountain and the dam at the deepest, cleanest part of the lake. The land was originally owned by the Appalachian Power Company (which owns the lake) and a group of 10 investors from Bedford bought the land from the Power Company in the late 1970's and developed the subdivision comprised of over 400 lots, offering the land for sale one section per year, selling out in 4 years.

Lovely home nestled in the woods
Overall very happy with the home! We brought our dog and enjoyed going for walks around the area. Also did some fishing (unsuccessfully) off the dock. The hot tub was great and the living areas were very spacious. However, we were afraid to use the grill as there were funny stipulations on replacing the gas, and we had to buy sheets for the house as we don't have either king or queen size beds at home, so this added to the cost of the rental. The nearest grocery store is about 30 mins away (which is fine), and we didn't bring coffee filters for the morning as we didn't know what type (size 4 cone filters if you want to be prepared), and that would have been nice to know in the paperwork prior to arriving. The post says the hot tub is professionally serviced every week, however the paperwork with the contract stated that it was just checked every week and to use at your own risk, but it seemed ok to us. We would stay again, especially in the fall, as it was beautiful around the area and perfect for our needs.
Great Getaway Cabin!!
My wife and I stayed at Evergreen for our 1st anniversary and loved it. Quiet cove, in a great neighborhood. Neighbors were friendly. This location allows you to be close to Smith Mountain, yet only 20 minutes to West Lake. We'd definitely stay here again.
So glad you were able to getaway to our sweet cabin! Happy anniversary! Please come again!
Great Start to the New Year!
We had the best time at this cabin! A small group of us (3 couples) stayed here to bring in the new year. We had a great time! There was plenty of room for all of us. The house is lovely and had everything we needed for our stay. The view of the lake was amazing and we even got to meet the lovely owners who were very nice. I would highly recommend this cabin at smith mountain lake. We can't wait to visit again in the summer.
Thank you, Mia! So glad you and your guests enjoyed Evergreen! Please come again! Happy New Year!
Our family stayed at this cabin for three days. The house was exactly as shown . The hot tub was wonderful and well maintained. We spent a lot of our trip on the back porch area and the boat dock fishing rowing canoes and just enjoying the view. The stairs on the side of the house are very dark at night and could use a little light, but otherwise a very enjoyable, relaxing vacation. We wanted to stay a few more days and was sad to leave. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone.
Perfect vacation house
It was the best vacation, ever. The house was perfect, warm and cozy. We used the fireplace every night. Sitting on the dick in the morning and in the evening with a glass of wine was so peaceful. We brought our German shepherd, who had a great time running in the yard and watching the ducks. Rented a pontoon boat and used the dock, which was great fun. Everything was perfect!
So glad you enjoyed yourselves! It's a lovely spot, isn't it? I'm so glad we can share Evergreen with our guests. Please come again. 🌲
Relaxing, Enjoyable Property - Needs a Couple More Necessities
I'll start by saying I've rented homes a Smith Mountain Lake for several years. The lake has become our getaway destination for a summer vacation and, more recently, the winter holidays. Therefore, I feel I have a reasonable context for evaluating this property. Overall we enjoyed our visit to this cabin. It had all the important qualities, but lacks a few details that could make this a better property. I would probably stay here again.
Pros: It has a rustic, authentic feel to it, creating a warm, cozy feeling. Everything upstairs is real wood. It has full length upper and lower decks which are great for socializing, reading, relaxing, etc. The home has an easy, intuitive layout. The kitchen is large and well suited for cooking for a full house. The interior furnishings and decorating match the log cabin feel. The bedrooms are about the right size, not too small. The large boat dock also has a canoe for guests to use. The lower level is a walkout basement with a large open area with a pool table a television viewing are. For us, the kids played downstairs, the adults socialized upstairs - worked out really well.
Cons: A week before our stay began we found out we needed to bring our own queen size sheets. I feel this should have been communicated in the property description or before we booked. We don't own any queen size beds, so this was somewhat of an inconvenience. I felt as if the $120 cleaning fee should have included washing sheets. It's the first property I've stayed at that didn't provide sheets. Once we arrived we found out that were lots of other things not in the house. We needed to make a couple trips to grocery store for small things like toilet paper, dish washing soap, hand soap, paper towels, cleaning spray, wash clothes, scrub brushes etc. You'll need to bring all your own cleaning supplies and toilet paper. Again, this is the first property I've stayed at that didn't provide these necessities.
I'm sorry you were taken by surprise in this way. It's customary on Smith Mountain Lake to bring your own sheets, soaps, paper supplies and such. This should have been communicate to you by Lake Retreat Properties. I know it is on their paperwork and website. But it is certainly a good suggestion to include that on the Homeaway site. Thank you, and again, I am sorry for your inconvenience. -kate
