Magpie Cottage is a life-long dream come true for us. We love Beaufort as our second home and hope you will come to enjoy it as much as we and our family do.
Doug Mendel purchased this bungalow in 2003
We've vacationed for years on the coasts of the Southeast. When we finally made it to Beaufort we found everything we were looking for in all those travels - unspoiled natural beauty and a vibrant community that shares a unique culture, food and way of life.
When we stepped into this cottage, its sunlight and cheerfulness captivated us immediately. The Great Room has eight full-length windows. Magpies love shiny things - and this bright house seemed to embody that spirit of light and curiosity. Along with that, it provides the perfect blend of old-time character and new convenience.
Magpie Cottage is in an ideal location for exploring the greater Beaufort area, and there are terrific restaurants within walking distance. The house had everything we needed and the layout was convenient. The owners were great and gave many helpful recommendations for places to go. It was also a plus that we had absolutely beautiful weather! All in all, a terrific time!
This cottage was in a perfect location. I have never stayed anywhere that was more equipped with the conveniences of home! Literally all we needed was a suitcase of clothes. The owner sent a detailed email containing places of interest, dining recommendations and even photography opportunities, which we were interested in. She could not have been more accommodating. We will definitely use this cottage again and again!
We loved the cottage (it was exactly as advertised). Beaufort is a great location for visiting both Savannah and Charleston, with a drive, or a beautiful relaxing town to explore.
Don't let the modest price fool you. Magpie Cottage is a winner! We've rented cottages through vrbo all over the East Cost and even in Europe and this is one of the best. Not fancy, but charming, comfortable and clean. Plenty of linens and towels. An easy kitchen to work in - we 3 retired friends made Christmas cookies and didn't run into each other! A bit too cool to enjoy the front and back porches, but our dog walks took us through old neighborhoods, lined with palm trees and live oaks, and down to the river. It's a healthy walk down to Bay Street, the main street of the historic district and the main shopping and dining area, along the river. A little too healthy for one of us so we drove over - 5 minutes - and parked in the main city lot behind the stores. Our 2 weeks there went way too quickly. A great place to spend Christmas or any other time of year. We highly recommend Magpie Cottage, Beaufort and the Low Country as a vacation destination!
We stayed here for my son's USMC graduation and absolutely everything about this home was perfect! I would recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a home away from home. The owners were an absolute pleasure to deal with, and I knew I made the right choice booking with them after our first email exchange.
We enjoyed the Magpie Cottage. It is very comfortable and well stocked. The kitchen is a dream to work in - especially for a Thanksgiving dinner with all its embellishments! We had some trouble finding it from Boundary: 1- because we didn't have our digital map turned on and 2 - because the road is not marked with a name, just numbers, but that was a small setback which was resolved quickly. We spent the days exploring Beaufort, its food, shopping and history and nights in the cottage having fun with the games and movies the owners were thoughtful enough to provide.
