I am a retired chaplain. I'm very interested in hearing about life in other countries. I love to read - especially fiction that conveys a sense of the experience and interior lives of characters in different cultures.
Judith Mason purchased this townhome in 1969
I grew up in the South and missed the natural world when I married a man from New York City and moved here with him. This brownstone with its front, back and terrace gardens enabled me to have a little touch of green serenity in all the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple.
I guess I'm a romantic at heart and prefer a home with the graciousness of the nineteenth century over the hard lines of the 21st. We have lived here so long we have something special for everybody of every age to enjoy.
We had a great time at Judith's place. Lovely hosts, yummy breakfast and swimming pool was a great break from the fast pace of New York. Really set up well for families, you will get a true taste of New York.
New York City is a busy, bustling, fast paced city. We arrived at La Guardia and had to wait 45 mins in line for cab. After a 30 min driving through traffic, we arrived at the street where Judith lives. It was like an oasis of calm and green. Our family of 7 were welcomed by Judith and her son Ben. It felt like coming home from a hot busy work day.
It was a short hello as we had to rush to Broadway to meet friends and watch a show and came home late. Next day, Judith made a hearty breakfast with pancakes, bacon strips and eggs plus coffee and juice for all 7 of us. We loved it! This is when we got to really talk with Judith. What a warm and charming lady she is!
Our family of 4 stayed in the family room with its own toilet and bath and airconditioning. We had a welcome fruit basket, clean beds and an airbed for our adult boys. My sister and her kids stayed in the suite also with its own toilet & bath.
The house is a monument in its self. It is old and had character and warmth. Too bad we never got to use the pool due to time constraints. I loved the location, just 5 mins walk to Central Park and 10 mins to the Subway station 6. It is in a safe and quiet area. For couples or families with young children, this is a perfect place. Judith has grandchildren, so she has a room full of toys and books. The stairwell maybe steep so just watch toddlers climbing up the stairs. Luckily my boys could carry our luggages all the way to the top floor.
Judith is accomodating and flexible. She listens to your needs and you can always talk things out. We stayed 2 nights and didn't have the chance to say goodbye to her when we left. Ben patiently stayed with us while waiting for our cabs.
Judith and Ben, you were wonderful hosts! Thank you for taking care of us in New York City. Sending you both a warm hello from all of us!
Well, this was our third time to stay with Judith (me and my daughter), she is like family to us. I can't say enough nice things about the kindness and warm reception we always receive from her and her son Ben.
The location is perfect a few blocks to central park, subway, Madison and Park and one thing that had changed this time is there are several new restaurants close to Judith's. I would recommend Effy's Kitchen, me and my daughter thought the breakfast was really good and we had lunch and dinner there as well different days and it was very good and reasonably priced.
Thank you Judith for another wonderful stay! Next time we are coming in the fall!
We have stayed 7 people in Judith's B&B house which was very friendly and convenient for us. We had days of joy and sweet discussions with Judith. Easy sccess to subway for downtown and Central Park.
Thanks once more for all.
Everything was provided & all questions were addressed about sightseeing. We had a great time in N.Y.
We had a nice two day stay at Judith's home. Very clean, fully stocked fridge, and safe location. We will book the suite next time as Judith's homemade breakfast is included (with many great reviews) and a better opportunity to visit with her. We checked the suite out and the temperpedic pull out bed looks very comfortable. There is a darling children's room also...would be great for a family.
This brownstone is one of many on a quiet, tree-lined block with free street-parking available. Half a block away is the neighborhood's 'Restaurant Row' which lines Lexington Avenue from 99th to 102nd Street. Mt. Sinai Hospital is a block away 'as the crow flies' and many museums throng Fifth Avenue, which - together with Central Park - is two blocks away. It is 1 block to a bus or 2 and 1/2 Blocks to a subway train, which in less than 10 minutes puts you in the heart of midtown and all that New York City has to offer.
