About Amy Pereira
I'm a designer by profession who's turned my passion for beautiful spaces into a new adventure in inn keeping! In my lifetime I've renovated 5 of my own homes (not counting the ridiculous number of times I rearranged the living room furniture of my childhood home...and drove my mother batty!) My design business brought me into people's homes right before they were ready to sell. I should rephrase that: they weren't really ready to sell and that was why I was there! Turning around spaces is my specialty. I also work REALLY hard at my other job: being a mom to 10 year-old boy-girl twins. We live in Grand Haven 5 blocks from the cottage so that makes providing concierge-level service for my guests so easy!
Amy Pereira purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Amy Pereira chose Grand Haven
In January 2012, I purchased this Historic home in downtown Grand Haven, inheriting 2 lovely tenants. In the Spring of 2012, I made a go of converting one of my rental units into a weekly summer cottage and had a surprisingly successful 1st season. The location is what makes this cottage shine. Nestled on a shady street just a block from the downtown business district, this residential street boast the proximity and privacy you'd look for when purchasing your own home. Steps from all the great things Grand Haven has to offer and a pleasant walk to the beach (or even more convenient take The Beach-Town Trolley). If you were to stay in a beach property, you are convenient to one thing: the beach. But in Grand Haven that takes you away from all the other activities you need access to many times a day like restaurants, shops, ice cream, and other downtown attractions. When you choose a property like ours that's set away from the beach you avoid the crowds and the noise. I bought this cottage because I live in this neighborhood and I know the amenities it has to offer for families and couples alike! It's the best of both worlds; easy accessibility to the beach when you want it and excellent proximity to where all the other activities happen in Grand Haven.
What makes this Cottage unique
I LOVE being an ambassador of our little town. I'm here to help you find your best vacation EVER! All my guests rave about the care I've taken to make a great location come alive with charm, conveniences and small luxuries. We added a vine-enclosed courtyard in the Fall of 2012, creating a place to BBQ, dine outdoors and cozy-up to a generous fire pit. What started as a humble year-round unfurnished rental has become Suite Retreat-great amenities, great attention to detail, great value. This summer we will offer two beautifully designed suites decked out with all the amenities. This is a place where you simply pack a suitcase of your clothes leaving loads of EMPTY SPACE in your car because I've outfitted the cottage suites with everything you'll need to enjoy all that Grand Haven has to offer. Beach gear, games, toys, kitchen staples & condiments and even basic toiletries make this a SUITE RETREAT. I pride myself on providing a concierge-level of service with good value for money.

A Great Find in Grand Haven
My family and I had a great time here. The kids loved the placed and you cannot beat the location. Downtown Grand Haven is at your backdoor. I would stay again for sure.
Beautiful and comfy home
Loved being downtown.
4 years in a row!
My family and I have been staying in both units at the Suite Retreat for the past 4 years. It is perfect for us. We have 3 grown sons, so we needed 4 bedrooms. We all love to cook so having 2 kitchens is terrific when we entertain our extended family, especially when fresh caught salmon is on the menu! It is one block away from the main street, Washington Ave. so we can walk two blocks to get the paper in the morning or a great cup of coffee at the Armory. There is plenty of free parking right next to the cottage but you really don't need a car. Restaurants and bars are right there in town and the Musical Fountain and Music in the park are all within walking distance. Of course you could always use one of the four bikes on the property to tool around. That is one of my favorite things to do. The homes in and around the blocks have beautiful gardens, so riding or walking around to take in the flowers is just fantastic. Let's not forget about the beautiful Grand Haven beach. The light colored singing sands and "unsalted" water with many sand dunes are fun and refreshing. If you kite board, you will not be alone on a windy day.
Both kitchens are really well stocked with pots and pans, baking dishes, toasters, coffee makers. There are plenty of towels and beach towels and tons of "little kid" toys. Having a washer and dryer in each unit is great. You can pack less.
Amy is an amazing person in her own right and a terrific proprietor. She is always available for any questions you may have.
You will find the Suite retreat a perfect place to stay in any season.
We stayed on the main floor during our family vacation. It was very clean and within walking distance to everything. Having 4 kids, it was very handy to have a washer/dryer, beach toys, beach chairs, and linens provided. The binder that suggested places to eat and things to do was also super helpful since we had never been there before. Our family also had a really great time exploring Holland and Saugatuck which were a quick 30 minute (or less) drive. Oval Beach and the dune rides in Saugatuck were definitely worth the drive! My husband and I enjoyed the great coffee shops in downtown Grand Haven, and we all enjoyed delicious ice cream every night as we strolled along the boardwalk. The fireworks and musical fountain were amazing! My kids also loved playing putt-putt golf so much that we went back twice (great prices). Another favorite place we went to several times was Pronto Pups on the boardwalk. My 7 year old son loved that place! :) I noticed there were several places that only accept cash so just make sure you come prepared. We had an amazing week and will definitely be back!
Property in perfect location
Loved our stay as usual. Fourth stay to date. Will be back
Relaxing and convenient with charm
Awesome location and really great space! Everything you need is available. The patio and fire pit space is shared between the upstairs and downstairs. Private front porch with glider seat and private back porch. It would be a great house to rent both up and down stairs for a large group!
Just steps to restaurants, bars, boutiques, ice cream, The Musical Fountain nightly show, museums, Splash Pad, playground and YMCA not to mention the endless downtown amenities. Seasonal Harbor Transit Trolley stops just across the parking area to take you around town. Beach, Boardwalk, Lighthouse Pier, Ski Hill, marina with sport fishing for hire, library and a myriad of seasonal festivals make this Suite Retreat both a hideaway and a haven. No matter where you want to be in Grand Haven, this is the vantage point for all the action.
