About Lee Linhart
My wife, Laura and I are natives of Hendersonville and have always known what a truly special place in which we live. We enjoy sharing our cottages so others may experience the wonderful place we call home.
Lee Linhart purchased this Bungalow in 2016
Why Lee Linhart chose West Side Historic District
We had admired this home for many years and noticed that the owners had moved and allowed the property to decline. Always up for a remodeling challenge, we accepted the daunting task to refurbish the home and gave it a brand new beginning.

Lovely second floor two-bedroom "apartment", over a first floor which houses a working real estate office during business hours. The second floor was beautifully renovated with great attention to details: Full kitchen (not eat-in) with full size appliances (and a washer/dryer), with a small dining table in the central hall. Beautiful spa Bath (shower) and nice size living room space for two adults. Walk to downtown was perfect.
Excellent alternative to a hotel!
Immaculate as everyone said! Kitchen is absolutely fully equipped - you'll want for nothing. (They even remembered to provide a blow dryer in the bathroom!) Having a larger area for eating might appeal to some but we only ate breakfast there so it was fine. Beautifully restored home, beautiful bathroom. One suggestion: provide lightweight blankets for people who don't like sleeping under heavy quilts.
Little yellow house
We enjoyed our stay in this little yellow house very much! It was a little off-putting coming and going during business hours (there are office people working on the first floor and the dwelling you stay in is upstairs), but we got used to it and either avoided it or ignored it. On the weekend, they are not there.
Heads up or FYI about a few things:
* the Q beds were nice and the bedrooms had adequate space
* the downstairs office area (usable at night and weekends) is a TV and a table and chairs--not a den of any sort to sit in and watch TV. IF you even want to sit in a rental house and watch TV while you are in the NC mountains!
* the washer and dryer are very nice, as are all the appliances
* the kitchen was equipped with all we needed for our stay. I brought K-cups from home and the Keurig was used a lot! There is a tea kettle too and a regular coffee machine with filters.
* the bathroom is nice and has plenty of space. It features a shower and no tub
* the floor in this old house is not level. It's weird, but not a problem unless you can't get over the weird
* we had 2 couples and an infant for most of the stay. It was good for us, though if you are used to having extra bathrooms if someone is showering or otherwise occupying the one, well, you don't have that!
* the lockbox containing your key is awkward to access. Don't get frustrated--persevere.
* I found everything to be as described and very clean and ready for us.
Nice but pictures are somewhat deceiving. A few things worth mentioning left out.
This property is newly remolded, nice and neat. The rear parking area is on a hill and was difficult maneuver our trailer and truck on. Also there is a large staircase going up to the living areas that isn't pictured anywhere. The bathroom and bedrooms are beautiful. The kitchen is small due to the slanted ceiling. The eating area is in the hallway with seating for 2. Which also is not pictured. All in all I give it 3 out of 5 stairs.
Fastidiously clean and well stocked. We were able to relax and cook in several nights
We were able to meet the landlord and he was gracious and accommodating. We'd definitely stay here again. Thank you!
Comfortable, clean, convenient, cost-efficient stay!
Overall, this rental exceeded my expectations and I would definitely stay again. The location is close to many downtown Hendersonville shopping and dining offerings. The place is immaculate, and clearly much careful thought and attention was given to all the upscale remodeling that had been done - It was a nice mixture of modern amenities settled amidst the charm of a vintage bungalow. The beds and linens were of high quality, and there was a good deal of natural light throughout the entire unit. Booking the property was a snap and the owners were responsive to any request for information, etc.
However, I have to agree with much of Diane H's suggested list of very minor improvements: I too, thought what was lacking in the beautifully tiled bathroom was a shower seat, a step stool for access to the tall kitchen cabinets and a surge protector cord for more electrical outlet availability. I'd also change two things in the description of the property on the website: 1) I'd list that you have both a classic full-pot coffee maker as well as a Keurig machine 2) I think saying the 'dining area seats 4' is a bit of a stretch. when it's really a small drop-leaf table with two chairs in a hallway with a very slanted floor underfoot and two more chairs spread out through the rest of the house. It was fine for coffee in the morning, but four people actually sitting down to dinner would be a bit of a stretch. (We too, ended up eating in the roomier den). Perhaps a 'breakfast nook' would better describe this particular amenity?
Really, these are all VERY minor points in what was a LOVELY property that clearly is designed and maintained with much pride! Thank you for providing such a wonderful offering on VRBO - I'd definitely stay here again.
The Firefly on Fifth is centrally located near all of the fun that WNC has to offer. Activities include tons of golf courses, beautiful waterfalls/views, wine tours, shopping galore and a plethora of great places to dine. All this within a few minutes walk or drive!
