Large new very spacious and modern 3 bedroom apartment, sleeps six. Located on first floor. This is a private and electronically gated condominium, for extra security and peace of mind. There is also a ramp at the entrance to the complex. Lounge /dining room with 40 inch LCD screen, DVD and CD player, 3 seater, 2 seater sofas, dining table with four chairs and coffee table, with patio doors to veranda. The apt. has two large verandas front and rear with patio tables and chairs. All main rooms have air con. We are situated 1 block back from the marina with its beautiful tree lined promenade. The town has an excellent bus/rail and ferry service, therefore car hire is not essential. As the area is very flat, it is ideal for walking and cycling.
There are a number of golf courses easily accessible from Vila Real, Quinta de Cima, Quinta da Ria, Castro Marim and Calina Verde in Portugal and Isla Canela, Islanilla Portil and Rampida in Spain.
This is the only apartment complex with its own swimming pool in the town of VRSA.
PLACES OF INTEREST
FAROL - THE LIGHTHOUSE, is a landmark in the town and can be seen from far and wide. It was erected in 1923.
In the centre of the town you will find the most popular meeting place, THE OBELISK during high season there is often live music here.
The town also boasts a STATE OF THE ART SPORTS COMPLEX, and is host to many national and international events.
The MANUEL CABANAS MUSEUM is dedicated to the work of Portugal’s greatest wood engraver of the 20th Century and is truly worth a visit.
The RESERVA DE NATURAL DO MATA, is an area which unites Vila Real Santo to Monte Gordo and is covered in pine trees offering a cool shade in the heat of the summer months. There are also some wonderful walks to enjoy here.
The other reserve is, THE RESERVA NAURAL DO SAPAL de Vila Real de Santo Antonio. (The salt marsh nature reserve) This reserve was created to protect the area which has exceptional characteristics and is a bird watchers paradise being home to some 153 species of birds.
Fantastic apartment, modern and spacious. Nice pool. Contact with owners very easy. Would definitely recommend and will probably return in 2017. Jose Borges
Apartamento fantástico, moderno e espaçoso. Excelente piscina. O contacto com os donos foi fácil e cordial. Recomendamos sem reservas e iremos provavelmente voltar em 2017. José Borges
We really enjoyesd the spacious, climated and comfortable property. near to the city and the beach we could reach all important points in a few minutes. we had a good customerservice. help with transfers and flat. Vila Ral itselve is a nice location for holidays.
we can recommend the flat. It is ideal for a nice and relaxing holdays. You dont need a car to visit all the attractions.
Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful apartment. Every room was bright and spacious. A real bonus was having 2 balconies, guaranteeing a sunny spot to relax any time of the day. The apartment was spotlessly clean with all the comforts of home. Situated in a quiet part of town but still within 5-10mins walk to ferry crossing, great restaurants and town square.
This is a spacious ,comfortable and clean apartment, well-equipped though probably with the owner's family in mind rather than a commercial letting. Balconies enabled guests to sit in the sun almost all day though there is hardly room for six people at a time! We did not have access to a car but found no difficulty in exploring the town (with its shops and restaurants), the beach and the local area. particularly we visited Ayamonte, Tavira and Mertola. Self catering is no problem and there is a wide variety of choice for eating out. We welcome the owner's plan to provide a house book with local information as this would have given us immediate access to local information and other peoples' experiences.
We arrived home last night after a fantastic holiday at the Varandas Da Guadiana apartment in Vila Real de St Antonio. The apartment was lovely and the sun shone for the whole time. Easily the best weather that we have experienced in the Algarve at New Year (5th time). It did get very cold at night though (4 degrees!), but the sunshine made up for it.
Were were warmly welcomed by Carlos on arrival and given a quick tour of the apartment. He also provided directions to the local baker (more about that later).
The apartment is spacious, well equipped, clean and well maintained. Furniture is all of a high standard. The rear balcony is a bit of a sun trap even in December/January. It is also within easy walking distance to the town square.
There are a good few small supermarkets and one reasonably large supermarket in easy walking distance and there is also a large Pingo Dolce, a Lidl and an Intermarche supermarket in the town. We used a small local butcher for meat. Good quality and reasonable prices. We found two fishmongers but they were both closed - possibly holidays. Intermarche and Pingo both have good quality fresh fish but you have to make sure that it has not been on their ice shelf for too long! The counter staff are happy to clean the fish for you.
There is a cracking little bakers (best morning rolls ever!) two minutes walk from the apartment and the cafe attached has great coffee and free wi-fi (at 80 cents for a chilled bottle of Sagres the beer is nearly free as well).
We eat in a lot, but the O Cisne restaurant serves fantastic food at a very reasonable price and is less than five minute walk. A meal for 4 with a litre of pleasant house red for 50 Euros cannot be bad. The grilled chicken and the roast pork were superb and the fish of the day was straight from the sea that day!
As a lot of local restaurants were closed we ended up at the Chinese Restaurant near to the town square on New Years Day. It was also good and again a lot cheaper than back home.
There are plenty of golf courses nearby but we stuck with the Seve Ballesteros designed Quinta do Valle as it took us three rounds to work out how to avoid the water!
Having spent a New Year holiday in Lagos four times, VRStA was a pleasant alternative and we would hope to be back soon to explore a bit more.
Richard, the owner, was very helpful and very easy to deal with and we would be happy to recommend this apartment.
We stayed at this property in April 2011, two adults and three small children. The apartment is spacious throughout and a short walk to the town square in Vila Real. The town has a marina and a lovely paved walk along the river front which was ideal for walking with buggies and small children as it was safe and off the road. The beach in nearby Monde Gordo ( a 5 minute drive) is gorgeous, beautiful white sand and lovely little restaurants for snacks. coffees etc. The swimming pool was out of action during our stay. We mostly self catered as our children are so young and there is a good supermarket (Pingo Doce) a short drive away. The apartment has everything, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave etc you need when holidaying with young children. We were lucky with the weather for most of our time there and on the wet days we were able to drive to Seville (well worth a visit) and Huelva in Spain. We also drove to the big shopping centre in Faro which has Massimo Dutti, Zara home and a huge Continente (like Tescos), all prices considerably cheaper than at home. The agent met us at the property and was very helpful as were the owners. We were slightly concerned about paying the entire amount due in advance but there was no problem and the owners generously accomodated our early arrival on the first day. The nearby ferry ride across the river to Spain was a great success with the kids. An accessible and reasonably priced property for an all round family holiday.

**** Car Hire is not essential as the town has an excellent bus/rail and ferry service which can be used to explore the surrounding areas.
**** 3 min walk to the quaint and charming town square with its orange trees, cafes, traditional family run fish restaurants and many shops selling local ware, gifts, leathers etc.
**** It is located just 52km from Faro Airport and is quite easy to get to from Faro. Taking the A22 east you will soon see the signs for Vila Real Santo Antonio popping up.
Both the bus and train from Faro to Vila Real are quite reasonably priced at around €4.55 each way.
There is a regular ferry from Vila Real Santo Antonio across the Guadiana River to the neighbouring town in Spain, Ayamonte.
During the 80’s and 90’s VRSA was a very busy and popular place as it was the last stop before Spain and the only way across the Guadiana River was by ferry, however since the construction of the Guidiana Bridge the town tends to be bypassed.
SUN, SURF AND OPEN SKIES OF THE ALGARVE: The key asset with this apartment is its location. It is central to everything, yet situated in a peaceful and tranquil environment of a lazy town with its beautiful marina and restaurants. Myself, I love peace and quiet, but I also like activity for when I get bored! Here I have both, I can just walk along the promenade for 5 mins and find myself in the town square.
When booking a holiday always remember location, location, location. It saves on transport, time and money. Don't compromise when you don't have to!
BEAT THE WINTER BLUES: With about 3,000 hours of sunshine a year & a very mild winter, the Algarve is probably as close as you'll get to a sure thing for a warm and bright break at the tail end of the year. If you're looking for a fun winter getaway, there are all kinds of activities you can get stuck into here, from surfing to golf, from sight-seeing to cycling or just chilling by the pool. So make sure to pack the sun cream!
Cooler temperatures and quieter roads make winter an ideal time to get on your bike. There are a number of cycling tours - from relatively gentle scenic rambles to challenging off-road routes for keen mountain bikers. Cycle lanes are along the main roads in Vila Real and part of everyday travel. There is a continuous, straight and very flat cycle lane from Vila Real to our neighbouring town of Monto Gordo, which even to the 'unfit and inexperienced cyclist', is extremely enjoyable and safe to use. Wheely Good!!
CHILL OUT IN WINTER - WITHOUT THE WINTER CHILL: After October, everyone has time to talk, the locals have relaxed and the general atmosphere is very happy. Here in Vila Real, you'll meet the locals and discover a different Algarve. In winter, oranges and lemons ripen on the trees, while streams start to flow after the barren months of the summer. Along with unspoilt countryside, the villages themselves are hidden gems, where traditional life goes on as it has done for centuries, a million miles away from the coastal resorts of Western Algarve.
The Algarve has miles of beaches that will be virtually empty over the winter months. Average sea temperatures in Eastern Algarve rarely dip below 16C so even swimming is not out of the question. It can be into the late 20s during the day at any point in the Winter. Last February, everyone was wearing suncream and boardies on the beach. October brought temperatures as high a 40C! It's the perfect place to chill out in winter - without the winter chill.......
