About Dara Liberatore

I has always had a love of the water and boating. Although I did not grow up on the water, and did not come from a family of boaters, I have been drawn to water sports - swimming, scuba diving, boating - both sailing and motor. Prior to having my own yacht, I did a lot of chartering, and often found the charter experiences to be disappointing - usually because the boat was not in great condition. After spending over a year in Charleston working with a client, the idea of having a yacht and having it in Charleston, as well as filling a need in the market for high end yacht charters all came together. So, I started Atlanta Yacht Charters in December 2012, with my first yacht - La Nina. I recently renamed AYC to Low Country Yacht Charters, to better convey the focus and value proposition that this business offers, especially as I start looking to expand. Outside of boating, my core professional focus is strategy and operations management consulting. After graduating from Georgetown University, I spent several years on Active Duty with the Army, both in the Middle East and Germany. After coming back from Germany, I started my consulting career, taking a two year pause to get my MBA from Duke and then going to work with Accenture. I currently work with Alvarez and Marsal, helping companies improve their performance, across multiple industries and functional areas, with a focus on strategy, supply chain, manufacturing, profitability improvement and M&A.I welcome you aboard my yacht - La Nina - and hope you have a wonderful experience!

Guestbook comments from the manager

I am writing this note to say how much we enjoyed our cruise on La Nina. She is a beautiful boat, and perfect for what we had in mind for a break during our two-day company meeting in Charleston. Our manager gave us a choice for a "team building" activity, and one of them was an afternoon trip on your boat. Our decision was almost unanimous, and what a great choice it was. It was sunny and slightly chilly, so we bundled up a little and spent most of the time on the flybridge enjoying the amazing views of Charleston Harbor and downtown, with our wine and h'ordeuvres. Our thoughtful captain had the heat on in the cabin for whenever anyone wanted to go below and warm up. I must say, I have been to Charleston many times, but have never seen the city from the water on "my own yacht". I hope you don't mind the reference, but that's what it felt like! Thank you for our wonderful time. We will certainly be back.

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This is the second year in a row that we have rented this particular boat. We enjoy being on the water and like the convenience of being close to downtown Charleston. The weather started out rough with an intense storm the first night but we were all able to sleep like babies. We look forward to this vacation again next year.

Our stay was great! Exceeded our expectations!

Until they were cleaning the boat 3 days AFTER our checkout and we recieved an email stating that the toilet was clogged and we would not be receiving our refundable deposit.

The toilet worked the entire time during our stay.

They said a feminine hygiene product clogged the toilet. Which is weird because a feminine hygiene product was never used on the boat. It wasn't until an entire WEEK after our checkout date that we recieved pictures of the "damage." The picture showed a feminine hygiene product shoved through a pipe, and it was completely clean.

Strange. Who flushes a clean feminine hygiene product ?

Our stay was great, everyone was so nice. But that was just to lure us in before they robbed us. Theyve recieved a lot of good reviews - I guess they figured they could afford to piss one tenant

Owner's Response: Stephanie – Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback. We appreciate every review. I think your review will be helpful in advising future guests to read the Agreement carefully, as well as the posting in the bathroom and to take what we tell you at check-in very seriously. These issues are the very reason a refundable deposit is in place, for maintenance issues that may potentially arise during the cleaning of the boat. Yes, the cleaning did occur a few days after your check-out, our Captains do have other jobs and priorities; so they work at their pace. After all, another guest wasn’t checking in until the weekend. Sadly, I did have to inform you of this issue during your honeymoon. I was not looking forward to doing so; however, I knew it could not wait for the very reason that you could possibly think another guest caused the issue. Before I was even able to tell you what exactly had happened to the toilet, you had already told me of your sister’s use of the facility. I do not think this was done on purpose, accidents happen. However, it is a costly accident on a boat. This is why it is thoroughly written in the Agreement and above the toilet. In the years we have been renting out our boat, this is ONLY the 2nd time we have had to withhold a deposit for damaged property. I am sorry it happened to you. I am glad though that you found our LCYC team to be helpful to you and that your stay was pleasant.

Great experience on a yacht

  • 5 of 5

My family had a great time on this yacht in Charleston. My husband and I slept in the master and my two kids, ages 8 and 5, stayed in the bunk beds. They thought it was so cool to stay on a boat. Downtown was just a quick 5 minute ride on the free shuttle from the marina. We also used Uber to get home from downtown and that was only $5-$10 depending on the time of day. The yacht was very nice and relaxing. All the essentials were there and we even had a welcome basket with some great snacks for all of us. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks!

La Nina, We love you!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time enjoying La Nina and the city of Charleston. The boat was well maintained and our experience from start to finish was great. Dara answered all of our questions during the research phase, and Captain Lisa and Captain Donnie were awesome hosts while we were in town.

About the boat -- such a cutie! The sleeping quarters were comfortable and the whole space worked well for our family of three -- on sun-filled days and complete rain outs.

The Harbor -- Awesome location, friendly neighbors, and the marina offered a good bath house, laundry, restaurant/bar/snack options, and a free shuttle into town.

Back to Captain Lisa and Captain Donnie. Again, wonderful hosts of the boat, marina and city. They truly helped us get settled in, were always available to answer questions, and made us feel completely at home throughout our whole stay.

We could ask for nothing more and can't wait to return again!

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

Everything advertised was accurately described. The boat was clean, well maintained, good customer service.

LOCATION: The El Nina is located in a very nice marina about a 1.5 mile walk to City Market in downtown Charleston. Easy to shuttle, cab, or walk downtown. It's a very safe area and had no hesitation in allowing our teenage kids to go off on their own to walk downtown area. The marina shower/bathroom - all clean and well maintained. Nearby restaurant, pub, convenience store, ABC Stone. Ice in the convenience store. Parking is $15/day and you have to pay each time you leave and you probably have to pay if you park downtown, so just walk, use the shuttle, or cab it. Easy to strike up a conversation with other friendly boaters in the Marina.

ACCOMMODATIONS: The Beneteau 34 Swift Trawler is terrific. It's a trip that is somewhere between camping and staying in a nice hotel. We had breakfast on the flybridge, finished coffee inside when cold (March trip). Two-zone heat worked OK, sinks with hot/cold water work well for cleaning/washing, but drink bottled water. Received a nice gift basket including a 2-gallon jug of water, wine, fruit, which was nice. We brought breakfast and lunch with us and ate out for dinner. Dishes, silverware etc were well equipped for four if cooking. With master stateroom curtains closed, it was very dark, no trouble sleeping in. There was very little boat rocking when boats drove by, but only during the daytime. Nighttime sleeping was very comfortable on a master stateroom bed approximately queen size. Storage is limited (of course) so bring soft luggage and pack small.

CHARTER: We took a 3-hour charter with Captain Lisa. She did a great job, is very familiar with the boat and with local waters, and is an amazing person to get to know. The two captains available also do the check in/check out. The boat is a smooth running trawler, which means you are running at about 10-12 knots. A very comfortable, easy ride. You will love it.

OVERALL: I would highly recommend this trip and be sure to charter a captain for at least a few hours.
