The house was a perfect size for a couple. The yard was like a secluded paradise. It was an easy stroll to shops and restaurants of Olde Englewood/Dearborn Street. The owners were helpful with information on the local scene. We have since purchased a vacation home in Englewood but when we head there we often take s drive by to revisit a great memory!
Mango Cottage was a great getaway cottage. Everything you need is at this cute cottage and it was very clean and comfortable. Close to great beaches and small town feeling with shops, restaurants and beautiful sunsets..
We booked our March rental based on the many positive reviews. We were not disappointed. We appreciated the quality, comfort and cleanness of the interior, as well as the lush landscaping outdoors. We will truly consider visiting again.
My wife and I made and excellent choice with this property. At first we thought it was out of the way where we wanted to be, but turns out that being in a quiet place was really nice to come home to and relax after a day of doing whatever. Just looking at the little cottage gives you a feeling of being in a remote area and you are only a short walk or drive to downtown Englewood or a short drive to the beach. Great place and I'm glad we stayed.
I don't know how much more I can add to all the superlatives already written about these cottages. It is a side-by-side duplex, but you barely know there is another side to it (it is nice and quiet). The front and back decks are set up for privacy with pretty plants growing over screening to afford privacy on the back porch. We very much enjoyed having our coffee out on this serene little patio on most mornings, and were treated by theatrical squirrels in the high treetops & fencing, and beautiful songbirds. Most of the time, the only sound you hear is the birds, the rustle of the palms in the breeze, and an occasional car. The cottage is SUPER clean, and pretty well appointed for most light cooking needs. The bed, pillows and recliner chairs were very comfortable, the t.v. and cable worked well, and the WiFi worked adequately. The decor is super cute, with little decorator touches here & there, nice artwork on the wall, and a few antiques. We enjoyed walking over to Snook's Bayside Bar & Grill and dined there twice. Our favorite restaurants: Mango's Bistro, Beachroad Wine Bar & Bistro (VERY nice!), Flatbread of Englewood, Farlow's (wow, yum!), Vino Loco & Zeke's. Englewood's on Dearborn is also good, & they have a wonderful live music scene with top-notch entertainment (& they are usually packed!). Manasota Key has some really nice beaches to explore, and you are within a short drive of Venice. Sarasota has many "tourist" venues, if you long for that. If you are looking to escape the high-rise condo set and not vacation amongst a "concrete and steel jungle", this cottage may be for you. A superb, serene get-away. We have booked again for next year.
If you are looking for a stay away from the glitz of Florida resorts, this is perfect. The "old Florida" cottage is immaculate, well appointed, and in a quiet neighborhood setting. It is surrounded by lovely gardens with a small deck perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view. Recliners were very comfortable, as was the bed for sleeping. We enjoyed a daily walk to old Englewood on Dearborn - about 2 miles round trip. Also, near Lemon Bay Park, with nice nature trails. A favorite dining place for us is Ricaltini's on Placita - beers for a buck, a good menu and fun music. The owners are super nice as are the caretakers. If you need a bigger space, ask about the 2 bedroom cottage next door - we didn't know it was available.
The two Cottages are located in an attractive, quiet area that is typically 'Old Florida' on the lovely Gulf Coast. The main street in Olde Englewood, Dearborn Street, hosts a number of regular activities which attract people from the surrounding area, such as Saturday Night Live - shops are open late and lots of live music -, Wine Walks and Wine Tasting, Cruizin' Dearborn - classic car show along the street, live music, shops open late - and a Farmer's Market every Thursday morning. In addition, there is the Lemon Bay Playhouse which has a season of plays and musical entertainment.
Depending on the time of year you are visiting, you can have the opportunity to participate in a number of specific seasonal events, such as a Spring Arts Festival, Cinco de Mayo and Pioneer Days, to name a few.
There are several excellent restaurants on Dearborn Street and in the local area offering a variety of cuisine to suit all tastes. Most of the restaurants provide live music covering a range of style ensuring a fun, relaxing and enjoyable evening.
Down in Fort Myers, there are interesting attractions such as Thomas Edison's and Henry Ford's Winter Estates, Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel and Captiva Islands and an refurbished retro downtown area.
Boca Grande, famous for the Bush family vacations, is approx half an hour's drive from Englewood and is the home of the beautiful Gasparilla Inn.
North of Englewood, you have Venice Beach, where you you can often spot dolphins and beautiful Siesta Key, where the beach is listed as one of the top 10 beaches of the world. And then, north a little further, in Sarasota, you will find the Ringling Brothers' Museums.
Closer to home, Englewood Beach and Stump Pass State Park are on Manasota Key which is 10 minutes' drive from the Cottages. Lemon Bay Park and Environmental Center is a stone's throw away. Here you will find a nature trail, butterfly garden, eagle nest viewing areas, canoe/kayak launch, boardwalks, picnic pavilion, picnic shelters, grills, park benches and environmental center.
If golf is your sport of choice, there are private golf courses nearby, such as Boca Royal Golf & Country Club and Jacaranda West Country Club, and a number of public golf courses, such as Myakka Pines Golf Course, Oyster Creek Golf & Country Club and Stoneybrook Golf & Country Club, to name but three.
