Baring Cabin Rental Photos and Description

600 sq ft Chalet Style Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath on scenic mountain river

Whispering Waters is a cozy charming Washington state vacation cabin rental on a scenic mountain river surrounded by beautiful Cascade Mountains. Only 60 miles northeast of Seattle, feels worlds away.

The cabin's romantic ambience makes it ideal for couples, with a river view from the king loft bed, seasonal gas river rock fireplace, and hot tub overlooking scenic Skykomish River. The loft's french doors lead to a balcony next to a large moss-covered tree, and also has a river view. The 600sq ft vacation rental cabin is cozy and perfect for two celebrating an anniversary, honeymoon, or a romantic getaway; but can accommodate up to four.

The cabin is a great place for a relaxing vacation. The rocking chairs on the cabin's porch provide front row seats to watch the Skykomish River go by, bald eagles soaring by in the winter, and salmon jumping in the fall.

The 50-jet hot tub a few steps out the front door with river and mountain view is terrific for soaking your cares away while the Skykomish River 'whispers' by. The hot tub is year-round.

On clear nights the cabin's riverside yard is a great place to star gaze while listening to the river, especially after soaking in the hot tub or sitting next to a camp fire. There is a great mountain and river view from both the hot tub and the fire pit area.

The cabin is on a semi-private lot - cabins across the river and a full-time residence downstream with fencing and landscaping to provide privacy. The deciduous trees on the river bank are trimmed so you have privacy in the summer without losing the river view.

The king bed in the loft has a river view. A queen bed in the downstairs bedroom provides room for an additional couple or children (note: surroundings may not be suitable for small children due to the abrupt river bank). Linens and towels provided.

A small kitchen area is set up for simple meal prep, and the dining table seats up to 4 with river view. The kitchen has a gas range/oven, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, bean grinder, blender and hand mixer. Starter supply of coffee, tea & hot chocolate provided. Dishes, pots & pans, kitchen towels, flatware & cooking utensils also provided. Charcoal grill on the porch (bring briquettes).

The cabin is super cozy in winter with the river rock gas fireplace. Satellite TV provides 250+ channels, and WiFi provides Netflix and Pandora. There are also board games, puzzles, paperbacks, and Sky Valley area information. At 775 ft elevation, there is not a lot of snow in the winter, but one should be prepared for winter driving approximately late November to March.

Whispering Waters cabin is in a beautiful mountainous area 90 minutes northeast of Seattle, half way between Index and Skykomish, WA off US Hwy 2. The cabin is close to three wilderness areas (Wild Sky, Alpine Lakes and Henry Jackson) and Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest that offer year round outdoor recreational opportunities.

The area around Whispering Waters is not 'touristy', yet attracts thousands of visitors due to the rugged beauty of Washington state's Cascade Mountains and the outdoor recreation. There are dozens of great nearby hiking trails with something for everyone - easy family walks through the woods, waterfalls, alpine meadows, historic Wellington train disaster site, trout-stocked alpine lakes with crystal clear water, historic lookout towers, old growth forests, and rock climbing. The numerous forest service roads are great for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing when the snow level is 1000ft or below.

The cabin is on the south fork Skykomish River, mostly a class II whitewater rafting and kyaking river east of Whispering Waters (3 sets of non-navigable waterfalls three miles downstream/west of the cabin). Mid to late summer the river is gentle enough for river tubes. The main Skykomish, 6 miles west, is a class IV whitewater river, with several local rafting companies providing trips through popular Boulder Drop.

Nearby Stevens Pass ski area (23 miles east) is a popular day-use ski/snowboard area. $50 ski lift vouchers with cabin stay. Whispering Waters cabin is on the west side of the pass, so no need to drive over a mountain pass if coming from the Seattle area. The roads to the rental cabin are usually snow free in the winter, but one should be prepared for winter driving when coming to the mountains in the winter.

Stevens Pass summer activities are mountain biking, scenic chair lift ride, hiking, coffee shop, and disc golf.

The south fork Skykomish with it's sparkling clear water is a Washington Scenic River with seasonal (June-Nov) fishing for trout and white fish. Even though it is a whitewater river, there is a calm area in front of the cabin for cold water swimming on a hot summer day. The rapids just past the cabin are mild enough in late summer for family tubing. NOTE: there are three sets of waterfalls starting 3 miles downstream of the cabin. Kayakers and rafters start upstream in Skykomish. There is a small rocky beach below the cabin and is a good place to enjoy the cool river breeze on the occasional hot day. Chairs can be placed in the cold river water to cool off even more. Western Washington weather is usually mild throughout the summer but there will be some hot days. A portable air conditioner is provided if the forecast is for temps 80 or above.

There are also horseshoe pits for when you're staying close to the cabin.

We are able to keep midweek rates low, starting at $145/night, while providing quality amenities as the cabin is owner managed and maintained. There isn't a big cleaning fee, unlike many rental cabins.

Single nights are occasionally available between other reservations or last minute. See owner's website (skycabins) for last minute discounts and to book single nights. Single nights are available for two people only.

About The Owner

I purchased Whispering Waters cabin as a side career while working as a nurse. I enjoyed it so much that I made cabin rental my full time career in 2000 and still love it. I love the outdoors and try to hike, raft, snow shoe, and cross country ski whenever I can.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 1999

Why The Owner chose Washington

I love this area as it is so beautiful and peaceful. Listening to and watching the Skykomish River 'whisper' by brings me daily enjoyment and I want to share it with others. After twenty six years of living in the Cascade Mountains I am still in awe of the beauty of the river, mountains and the big trees.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is owner maintained with many personal touches. It is also more affordable without the huge cleaning fees charged by most property management companies.

Because the owner lives close by, she is able to share knowledge of area attractions, as well as respond quickly to any problems.

Comfortable all-weather wicker rocking chairs on the front porch year round; hot tub with glass cover that provides protection from the rain while maintaining the outdoors experience. Authentic cabin atmosphere.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is an amazing place well exceeded my expectations. We planned this getaway two months ago choosing from a list of cabins and really lucky that your place is what we found. Will definitely be coming back and reocmmending your cabins to our frineds. I have never been/felt so relaxed until the day we arrived here and know that this is the "Place". So serene when you're outside, looking at the views and listening to the relaxing sound of the river, and when we're in the hot tub after a long day snowboarding. "WOW" I just can't stop saying this is the place for me. MY PERFECT GET-AWAY.

Fantastic and beautiful

I can't say enough good things about Whispering Waters. The cabin was spacious, had everything we needed, and the views were incredible. I definitely want to return, and I highly recommend it! Also, TONS of stuff to do in the area while still being nice and isolated <3

Better Than We Dreamed

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is so wonderful. The owners have put so much time and effort making their cabin so lovely and comfortable for their guests it's unbelievable for a vacation rental. We have stayed in many vacation rentals over the years and this one by far is like someone's home it is so detailed with themed decor.

It is in such a lovely setting, each morning we opened the shutters to have our morning coffee and tea to look out upon the river.

If you love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, this is where you want to be.

In each direction from the cabin on Highway 2 there are trails to hike. We hiked the Bridal Veil Trail about 6 miles away. A fairly easy hike to an outstanding falls.

We loved this place!

Fantastic stay

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay at this cozy cabin. The hot tub was a highlight, with a wonderful view of the river that we thoroughly enjoyed after a long day of hiking. The cabin was fully stocked with all the amenities one needs for a short or extended stay. The only downside was the narrow, rather steep stairs up to the master bedroom loft. As the bathroom is downstairs, we elected to sleep in the first floor guest bedroom which was fine as the queen bed in this room is one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Jane the manager was very communicative, making sure we had everything we needed. This was a delightful place to stay, easy to access and very sweet. I'd highly recommend it for the area.

Great couple's weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I had an excellent weekend here -- the cabin was private, clean, cozy, and a great home base as we explored the mountains. The hot tub was excellent and the view can't be beat: a beautiful river right outside your doorway.

25th Anniversary!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was from Fri-Sun (May 13-15, 2016) and it was wonderful! We're from Florida and appreciated the WA mountain skyline and rustling streams/rivers. The cabin was decorated beautifully and had everything to enhance our stay (inside and out). It was so very cozy and had such quaint surroundings. We did a lot of hiking along the "Cascade Loop" - which was awesome (raining, but still breathtaking)...the hot tub was calling our name, but we missed our opportunity (fell asleep!). Thanks so much for a lovely weekend to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary!

Wonderful cabin on the river with great view of the mountains right out the back door!

We enjoyed our stay very much! The cabin was wonderful. A lot of great hiking nearby. The hot tub was just what our sore muscles needed after a day of hiking. The owner was very helpful in giving us information about the area. Perfect stay!
