About the property

Cozy romantic chalet cabin on scenic mountain river, private hot tub, sleeps 3-4

Discounted rates through early October, excluding weekends, due to nearby bridge repair work that is intermittently noisy during the day (8am-5pm) Monday-Saturday. It will be a great time to get out into the woods to hike or walk the many wonderful close by trails. Access to the cabin is not a problem. Please click "contact owner" button above (HomeAway), or in owner's section (VRBO) if you have questions.

Whispering Waters is a charming Washington state vacation rental cabin in a beautiful mountain setting on scenic Skykomish River 60 miles (90 minutes) northeast of Seattle.

The cabin's cozy ambiance makes it ideal for a couple looking for a romantic getaway, with soaring cathedral ceiling, river view from the loft king bed, and seasonal river rock gas fireplace. The hot tub is strategically located overlooking the Skykomish river with the Cascade Mountains looming above. The loft's french doors lead to a balcony surrounded by large moss-covered trees, and also has a river view.

The 600 sq ft vacation rental cabin is perfect for two celebrating an anniversary, honeymoon, or a romantic getaway; but can accommodate up to four people for short stays. This cabin may not be suitable for small children due to the proximity of the river and stairs.

The cabin is also great for a relaxing getaway. The rocking chairs on the cabin's front porch are great for watching the river flow by, bald eagles soaring in the winter, and salmon jumping in the fall.

The 40-jet two-pump hot tub a few steps out the door with river and mountain view is terrific for soaking your cares away while the Skykomish River "whispers" by. The hot tub is year-round, and is covered with a translucent roof that provides the outdoor ambiance while protecting you from the elements.

Also outside is a fire pit next to the river bank with a mountain looming above the river. The fire bowl is year-round weather conditions permitting and if there is no burn ban. Bring firewood which can be purchased at most grocers.

The cabin is on a semi-private lot: two cabins across the river and a full-time residence downstream with fencing and landscaping to provide privacy. The deciduous trees on the river bank are trimmed strategically to provide privacy in the summer without losing the river view.

The king bed in the loft has a river and woods view. A queen bed in the downstairs bedroom provides room for additional people, or if you don't want to climb stairs. Bedding and towels provided.

A small kitchen is set up for simple meal prep, and the dining table seats up to 4 with river view. The kitchen area has a gas range/oven, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, bean grinder, blender/food processor, and hand mixer. Starter supply of coffee, tea & hot chocolate provided. Dishes, pots & pans, kitchen towels, flatware & cooking utensils also provided. Charcoal grill on the porch (bring briquettes). Some pantry items are usually available, but it varies so feel free to inquire.

The cabin is super cozy in winter with the gas fireplace. For entertainment, there is satellite TV, and WiFi provides Netflix and Pandora. There are also board games, puzzles, a few paperbacks, and Sky Valley area information.

At 775 ft elevation, there is not a lot of snow in the winter, but a short drive up the mountain will usually get you to snow for skiing and snow shoeing.

Whispering Waters cabin is in a beautiful mountainous area 90 minutes northeast of Seattle, half way between Index and Skykomish, Washington state, off US Hwy 2. The cabin is close to three wilderness areas (Wild Sky, Alpine Lakes and Henry Jackson) and Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest that offer year round outdoor recreational opportunities. The popular local activities are river rafting, kayaking, skiing, hiking, snow shoeing, rock climbing, and fishing. There is an ORV area close to Gold Bar.

The area around Whispering Waters is not 'touristy' (i.e. not highly developed), yet attracts thousands of visitors due to the rugged beauty of Washington state's Cascade Mountains and the outdoor recreation provided by the mountains and rivers. There are dozens of great nearby hiking trails with something for everyone - easy family walks through the woods, waterfalls, alpine meadows, historic Wellington train disaster site, trout-stocked alpine lakes with crystal clear water, historic lookout towers, old growth forests, and rock climbing. The numerous close by forest service roads are great for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing when the snow level is 1000ft or below. When the snow level is higher, a short drive will usually get you to snow covered roads.

The cabin is on the south fork Skykomish River, mostly a class II whitewater rafting and kyaking river east of Whispering Waters. Be aware that there are 3 sets of non-navigable waterfalls three miles downstream/west of the cabin if you're floating the river. Mid to late summer the river is gentle enough for river tubes, though the water may still be cold. The main Skykomish 6 miles west is a class IV whitewater river, with several local rafting companies providing trips through popular Boulder Drop.

Nearby Stevens Pass ski area (23 miles east) is a popular day-use ski/snowboard area. Discounted ski lift vouchers available for purchase with cabin stay. Whispering Waters cabin is on the west side of Stevens Pass, so you don't have to drive over a mountain pass if coming from the Seattle area. The cabin is at 775 ft elevation, and the roads to the cabin are usually snow free in the winter; but one should be prepared for winter driving when coming to the mountains approx. late November to March.

Stevens Pass summer activities are mountain biking, scenic chair lift rides, hiking, pub, coffee shop, and disc golf Thursday-Sunday.

The south fork Skykomish with it's sparkling clear water is a Washington Scenic River with seasonal (June 1-Aug 30) fishing for trout and white fish. Even though it is a whitewater river, there is a calm area in front of the cabin for cold water swimming on warm summer days. The rapids just past the cabin are mild enough in late summer for family tubing. NOTE: there are three sets of waterfalls starting 3 miles downstream of the cabin. Kayakers and rafters start upstream in Skykomish, 9 miles east. There is a small rocky beach below the cabin and is a good place to enjoy the cool river breeze on the occasional hot day. Chairs can be placed in the cold river water to cool off even more. Western Washington weather is usually mild throughout the summer but there will be some hot days. Even on hot days the night temps drop into the 50's or low 60's which cools the cabin.

There are also horseshoe pits for when you're staying close to the cabin.

We are able to keep midweek rates low, starting at $135/night, while providing quality amenities, as the cabin is owner managed and maintained.

Single nights are occasionally available between other reservations or last minute. Contact owner at sky cabins for last minute discounts and to book single nights. Single night stays, when available, are for two people/one bed only.

Arrival time 3pm or any time after; departure 11am or any time before.

AWD is not usually needed to get to the cabin, but one should be prepared for winter driving conditions approx late November-February.

About Janet Triplett

I purchased Whispering Waters cabin as a side career while working as a nurse. I enjoyed it so much that I made cabin rental my full time career in 2000 and still love it. I love the outdoors and try to hike, raft, snow shoe, and cross country ski whenever I can.

Janet Triplett purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Janet Triplett chose Washington

I love this area as it is so beautiful and peaceful. Listening to and watching the Skykomish River 'whisper' by brings me daily enjoyment and I want to share it with others. After twenty six years of living in the Cascade Mountains I am still in awe of the beauty of the river, mountains and the big trees.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is owner maintained with many personal touches. It is also more affordable without the huge cleaning fees charged by most property management companies.

Because the owner lives close by, she is able to share knowledge of area attractions, as well as respond quickly to any problems.

Comfortable all-weather wicker rocking chairs on the front porch year round; hot tub with glass cover that provides protection from the rain while maintaining the outdoors experience. Authentic cabin atmosphere.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is an amazing place well exceeded my expectations. We planned this getaway two months ago choosing from a list of cabins and really lucky that your place is what we found. Will definitely be coming back and reocmmending your cabins to our frineds. I have never been/felt so relaxed until the day we arrived here and know that this is the "Place". So serene when you're outside, looking at the views and listening to the relaxing sound of the river, and when we're in the hot tub after a long day snowboarding. "WOW" I just can't stop saying this is the place for me. MY PERFECT GET-AWAY.

Cozy cabin. Perfect for a weekend get away.

  • 5 of 5

Great weekend get away spot. This cozy cabin had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend. We enjoyed sitting outside drinking coffee listening to the peaceful sounds of the river. Puzzles, board games, and cards kept us entertained. The hot tub was very relaxing. Full sized oven/stove, great for cooking. Kitchen was stocked with dishes, utensils, and spices so we had everything we needed. You can tell the owners put a lot of thought into making this a great vacation rental cabin - from the decorations, clear instructions on how to use everything, and the informational book. Only con was we didn't stay long enough! 5 star, highly recommend!

Romantic Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I absolutely loved the little cabin. It had all the small touches that made it so relaxing . All the night lights that came on as you moved around were much appreciated! Sitting outside by the water gave you a sense of peace and quiet. We hardly heard the work going on at the bridge. We went to Leavenworth, stopped by Deception Falls on the way back. That was a great little walk through the woods with several waterfalls. We would definitely recommend your cabin to anyone for a terrific place to just sit and watch the outdoors. Thanks for letting us stay!

Property very private and secluded. Stream running in back of cabin is heaven. Cabin is very cozy and equipped with everything. So much thought and detail throughout that makes you feel at home. The beds and bedding are the best. The hardest thing to do was leave. We felt special. Thanks Janet 🌲

Little slice of heaven on the Skykomish

  • 5 of 5

My dear friend, Kathy, was visiting from AZ and i wanted her to experience the mountains but not have to go too far from Seattle, as she had already driven all the way from AZ. This cabin was the perfect spot. My boyfriend, Gabe, Kathy and myself spent two perfect nights here. Kathy kept saying how much she loved it. It was clean, cozy and had everything we needed. We grilled salmon steak and veggies on the grill, made a fire in the firepit outside, hung out at the river and took lots of photos of all the beauty around us. Kathy took early morning walks and listening to the river from the cabin was heaven. Janet was very nice, gave great directions and the cabin is so convenient from Seattle. Gabe and I slept upstairs and loved the little porch off the loft, so romantic. We will be back! Thank you, Janet!

Beautiful View, Quaint Cabin, Perfect Trip!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for a week for our honeymoon and wanted to stay forever! Janet provided helpful literature about the best stops in the area and was incredibly friendly. She even checked in via text a few times during the week to make sure we were as comfortable as possible. Definitely looking forward to a return trip on our anniversary! Loved the location, loved the decor, loved everything about it!
