Island Property: Renters Must Have Their Own Boat To Access.
Island living with 100 feet of shoreline facing the broads of Lake Winnipesaukee. This private retreat is a fully functional home. There is electric service, full plumbing, and hot water. The kitchen is stocked with all the essentials for your stay, along with all linens and towels.
At the water, there is a breakwater, and dock space for 1 boat up to 26 feet. There are also steps for entry into the gradually sloped, sandy bottom swimming area. From the dock, you have incredible views of the Whites, and Ossipee mountain range to the north, and can watch both sun up, and sun down.
There are about 40 steps from the dock to the property that may be difficult for elderly visitors. The steps lead you to a large deck that stretches the length of the home and is perfect for entertaining guests. The deck contains a gas grill, picnic table, additional dining table, and a modern semi-circular couch and gas fire pit which is sure to be a welcoming place to relax at the end of the day.
There are 3 bedrooms. While one bedroom has access by walking through another, each has their own sliding glass door for access to/from the deck.
The main living space has an entertainment center with TV/DVD, couches, and games for your entertainment. There is no cable, or internet, however the main cellular services provide excellent service.
Out the back of the property, there are miles of hiking trails. Deer can often be spotted as you climb to the top of the tallest island on the lake. Once at the top, there are panoramic views of the lake, and is the perfect place to watch the sun go down.
This property is located on the broad side of Lake Winnipesaukee and inclement weather may make for difficult boating. It is recommended to be an experienced boater when renting this property.

About Rob LaRocque
I am a New Hampshire native- born and raised. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire in 2004, I began my career in Finance. While I am not working, I generally spend my time enjoying one of my many favorite hobbies which include hiking, boating, skiing, SCUBA diving, and BBQing. Basically anything outdoors. When the property is not being rented, I am generally there throughout the summer months enjoying with friends and family. As I am new to renting and the property, I have been putting the majority of my time, and rental income back into the property and making improvements as I go. Often times, these improvements are based off of my renter's input to ensure I consistently improve on the experiences my guests have.
Rob LaRocque purchased this House in 2016
Why Rob LaRocque chose Alton
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted a place on a lake. A good friend of mine got me turned on to the island life as he originally purchased land on Rattlesnake, and gradually built himself a beautiful home. I would visit every summer and eventually decided to take advantage of a property that went up for sale.
What makes this House unique
The benefits that I see for this property are numerous. Personally, I prefer the island life as time seems to move a little slower and tends to be more relaxed. Being on an island ensures you plan ahead, take only what you need, and not be distracted by the mainland noises and traffic. While the property is waterfront on one of the busiest lakes in NH, you would never know it once the sun goes down and the noises from the daily grind drift away. There is an enhanced sense of privacy. The neighbors on the island are by nature very friendly, easy-going, and helpful. This specific property provides easy access to a number of attractions around the lake. Unlike other lakes, each town allows for free, public docking to run your errands, or enjoy a night out on the town. I am yet to receive a mosquito bite while at the property... the moving water and breeze tends to keep them all away. The property affords all of the comforts of mainland living, yet offers the ability to have as much enjoyment as you want whether that comes in the form of blending up your cocktails with some good tunes, or sitting back, reading a book, and staring at the mountains.

Killer location! Terrific Host!
My family's experience on Rattlesnake Island was one they will not soon forget.
We were a little worried that it would be hard to find the house, but once we started cruising up the coast it was simple to locate. Once there we found a very nice welcome basket with all sorts of goodies for adults and kids. We quickly popped out on the boat to get water skiing, tubing and exploring and found the islands central location to be fantastic. Rob had given us prime locations for our boating recreation all 5 to 10 minutes away.
The house is well appointed with all that you could want. I understand the previous review talking about the dishwasher, but we really didn’t find that a big deal. My family found the outside couch to be the most comfortable and relaxing spot and spent many hours just lounging.
My wife was spoiled by having latte’s delivered daily as Wolfeboro is 15 minutes away, and has ample free boat docking.
All in all a wonderful experience.
Thank you for your review! I'm glad you and your family enjoyed yourselves between the waterskiing and lattes! The lake is a great place to be, and I'm happy to hear it seems you made the most of your time on the island.
Great weekend in an awesome place!
Stayed here with a nice small group of people for my wife's 30th and it was perfect. Pictures were exactly as it showed. We loved that there was no distractions from the outside like cable and internet. kept us as a group busy playing card games and board games and fishing the whole time. the owners do have a tv with movies and never turned it on. it was a great location looking out over lake winni. ideal summer lake cottage. The owners really made us feel welcomed and i don't have a complaint about the place. It was as advertised. I will definitely book this location again.
The island life is a great life!
I recently took my family on a trip to rattlesnake island. We had an amazing time enjoying everything this property and the island had to offer. We had previously stayed at places on the mainland in years past and thought we would try an island for a change. We found that our stay was a much more private getaway for our family with more room to explore. The place provided easy access to a number of great places around the lake. Within a short ride, there is Wolfeboro, and sandbars. We also enjoyed riding along the shorelines and looking at all the large homes.
The property itself was very orderly, clean and had everything we needed for entertainment. The rooms were comfortable and the kids loved the bunk rooms. We enjoyed use of the swim float, the great views from the dock, the games, and gas fire pit. The owners provided fresh drinkable water in a cooler which was much appreciated so we did not have to bring our own. We hiked all over the island and loved the views from the top.
I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to enjoy the big lake, without all the noise and traffic of the mainland areas. While it offers a private setting, all the towns are still accessible with free public docking! Great retreat, and we would definitely return!
I'm glad you and your family enjoyed your stay! Sounds like you took full advantage of the many fun things in the area!
3 night getaway
We just came back from a 3 night getaway on Rattlesnake island. We enjoyed the firepit on the deck, swim raft, great dock views, poland springs water dispenser and hiking trails. A few suggestions:
- One of the bedrooms could not be accessed without going through another one. That wasn't a problem for us but I think that should be specified in the write-up.
-For a rental property, I'd prefer there was a dishwasher to ensure the cleanliness of the dishes washed by the prior tenants.
-We were disappointed that there were so many trees that there was no clear view of the lake from the deck.
-Directions on any TV channels available and instructions for accessing them would be helpful.
- A map of the island and the utility road, hiking trails and viewpoints would be helpful.
Overall, the house met our needs for our short stay.
I appreciate the comments related to the property, and your stay. It is important in order for me to understand the thoughts and needs of each guest to ensure I consistently strive to provide the best experience possible.
I am glad you found the outlined items enjoyable and will continue to highlight these for future stays.
Regarding the access to the back bedroom, I have updated the listing to be more clear that this is the set up. The room may also be accessed through it's own sliding glass door to the front deck, without disruption to the middle bedroom.
There is currently no dishwasher with this property, but will be considered given future updates. Appropriate care and attention is given between each rental to ensure all dishes and kitchen utensils are clean and orderly.
There are a number of trees between the front deck and the lake. While these trees provide privacy, and prevent erosion on the hill leading to the water, it is my goal to limb these up to open a more broad view to the surroundings within the coming weeks. As the deck sits only about 30 feet from the shoreline, many guests still enjoy watching the wildlife, boats, and the Mount Washington cruises go by given the current available views.
As outlined in the listing, there is no cable TV access. There are a number of DVDs for your viewing pleasure however, but I do not currently have plans to add cable as there are limited options for the island.
I have asked around for available trail maps on the island but it seems one has not been charted to date. This past Sunday I charted just under 3 miles of trail and plan to be able to provide a trail map to future renters that outline the known trails, their distances, and points of interest along the trails.
Being an island property, staying is a unique experience. Many of the things the property and island has to offer cannot be duplicated on the main land. While you may not receive some of the common amenities you are used to on the mainland, the privacy, and tranquility make this property what it is. Thank you again for your kind feedback, and I look forward to building on it in the coming weeks.
