Valley of the Sun House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrm/3 Bath Custom Vacation Cabin Near Breck & Fairplay

Robin's Nest is a gorgeous 4 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom custom vacation home located in a secluded area of Valley of the Sun. The home sits on a heavily wooded property with gorgeous mountain views. Robin's Nest is truly at the top of the mountain with views that extend for miles and miles.

If you love the outdoors, you may enjoy many activities without having to go too far...grab the snow shoes or your cross-country skiis and take a walk in the woods behind the house; hike the Pike National Forest right from the back yard; go fly-fishing in many of the lakes and streams nearby (Fairplay is known as the 'Fly-Fishing Capital of Colorado'); or access world-class ski slopes in Breckenridge just a 25 mile drive away.

On the main level of the home is the spacious great room. It has two-story windows that let in lots of light and frame the beautiful views of the mountains to the SE. It has seating for several people with two couches. The kitchen is located just off of the great room and is beautifully appointed with new appliances and lots of counter space. It has every amenity you will need for your stay. The dining area has a big table that seats 6-8 adults. It is also a great place to get together for a game of cards or to put together a jig-saw puzzle. Also on the main level are two bedrooms, both with queen beds, and a full bath.

Upstairs, there is a master loft with a queen size Select Comfort bed, a large walk-in closet, and a private bath with huge walk-in shower. There is lots of room and great views of the mountains from the two story windows.

Downstairs, the windows line the entire length of the room and provide great views of the mountains. There is outdoor access from this level, where you may step outside with the snow shoes for a walk in the woods, or come in from a long day of skiing and rest your skiis or snowboard on the rack in this room. There is a huge game room with a foosball table, puzzles and games, two couches, and a TV with DVD and Play Station. Satellite TV is provided. Also on this level is a full bath and a fourth bedroom that has two twin beds. There is a full size futon bed in the game room for additional guests.

Outside on the deck, there is a gas grill for barbecuing and a patio set where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the views or watching for moose. There is a family of 5 moose that frequent the area and have been spotted by many families.

About Shelley White-Corey

Steve and I live in Texas. We have six children and seven grandchildren (so far). Our kids and grand kids are spread from coast to coast, and several places in between!

Shelley White-Corey purchased this house in 2012

Why Shelley White-Corey chose Colorado

Since our family is spread all over the country, we wanted a place in a serene location where we could congregate and enjoy each other's company. We chose Fairplay, Colorado for its beautiful mountains, proximity to Breckenridge and central U.S. location.

What makes this house unique

If you want to be close to skiing and numerous other activities, yet at the same time really 'get away', you will appreciate this home as we do!

Beautiful scenery

  • 5 of 5

Robin's Nest was a perfect getaway for our family. It slept 6 of us comfortable with even an extra bedroom and beds to spare. It was very clean and updated. Everything was in proper working order (except could not get the playstation to work, which was not a big deal for us). The check in and check out instructions were simple and easy to accomplish. I would say the road leading up to the cabin is rather long and bumpy but its worth it!! We did most of our summer activities outside of Fairplay- Breckenride, Hoosier pass, hiking, and Vail- but the cabin was centrally located to allow us to travel to all the places for the day and return to the cabin for the afternoon and evening. The kitchen was well stocked with all the plates, utensils, and cook ware I needed. We would love to return to the cabin during winter time too!

Awesome! Just not perfect

  • 4 of 5

This place is really beautiful! We had an awesome time cooking and hanging out in the mountains. The location is great and space is perfect for large groups. The PlayStation didn't read any of the games that were provided, that was a bummer for the chilly nights. One of the windows in the living room was broken shut, so it got pretty hot during the day. Other than that, great place!

Owner's Response: I am glad that you enjoyed the mountains and the space for your bachelor party. Thanks for bringing my attention to the problems that you discovered. I am so sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. A new PlayStation memory card has been purchased and replaced, and the window has been repaired. The living room is a large space with several windows, a sliding glass door, and an overhead fan. Opening these would have really cooled the room.

Wonderful getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a place with an incredible view day and night (if the sky is clear.) It is quiet and spacious. We had a great family reunion there, with many unexpected extras such as sport and game activity items. We needed a baby gate and the manager supplied it for us before we arrived.

Nice but need a new management company.

  • 4 of 5

We had a nice stay. Roads were a bit rough we were on motorcycle so may want to pass if on a bike.

House could have been cleaner. One of the bed rooms had so much dust we had to clean vent and fan before use. They may want a new cleaning company.

Also had to do a bit of work on driveway where it met the road had been cut by road crew left a deep rut.

Owner's Response: I'm glad that these guests enjoyed their stay at Robin's Nest. Robin's Nest is perched at the top of the hill, and the views are breathtaking. The roads up the mountain are not paved, however, and can become dusty during a dry spell (like we are having now). My housekeeper, Pat, takes great pride in making the house clean and welcoming for the next guests. We have received many reviews stating how clean the house was upon arrival. She has no control over the dust that comes from the roads into the house. On this occasion, four days elapsed between the day she cleaned and the day these guests checked in, so some dust probably did come in from the road. Regarding taking motorcycles up the road, this guest asked me about it prior to their arrival, and this is exactly what I replied, "The road up to the cabin is hard-packed gravel. Normally, it is easily traveled, but sometimes, after a rough winter (with lots of snow and plowing), it can become washboard-like. My property manager tells me that he takes his motorcycle up there during the summer, but I've also had out of state guests tell me that the road would be too rough for that." So, clearly, there is a difference of opinion here. In the future, I will be sure to tell folks that motorcycles are not recommended. Finally, the road by the house is being graded, which will make it smoother to travel, but in the process, there may be some inconvenience. I am sorry for that, but have no control over it.

Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

Our family really enjoyed the stay at Robin's Nest. The home was beautiful and there was plenty of room for everyone. The games at the house made for fun evenings. Plenty of cookware and staples to makes meals the entire trip. The altitude adjustment was tough on us Kansas folks so the stairs wore everyone out, and we are in pretty good shape! Our only downfall was the dirt road up to the house was very bumpy, I was glad we had a large vehicle. My sister was in a smaller car and we worried some about them making it over the dirt/rock pile into the drive. It looked like the road had been plowed but the driveway and not been packed down at base of the driveway. The directions from the owners to the house were very helpful, especially since my GPS wouldn't work up there. Fairplay is a very small and quite town. We struggled to find a place for dinner on the 4th of July and ended up going back to the South Park Brewery for our second time. Enjoyed the beer there! Prepare to drive for more restaurant choices. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a quite spot away from the big city. Beautiful scenery and comfortable accommodations.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the review. I'm glad that you enjoyed the home! The views are spectacular! Besides South Park Brewery, there are a couple of nice restaurants in downtown Fairplay--South Park Steakhouse, and Millonzi's. Regarding the altitude, different people respond differently. We are flatlanders too (Texas), and when we go up, it takes me about 24 hours to acclimate, while my husband has no problem! We strongly recommend that people push fluids starting several days before arrival, avoid caffeine and alcohol while there, and ascend gradually (i.e. spend a day at a lower altitude) if possible. I appreciate the feedback about the driveway and will contact my property manager about that.

Outstanding Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for three nights with 2 adults and 3 teenage children. Directions provided made it very easy to find the home and everything was as described. Felt like a true Rocky Mountain get-away! Home had great views and even a telescope to view the night sky. Ample room for our family to spread out and plenty of firewood to have a fire inside. We were very close to many places of interest and outdoor activities during the day, but enjoyed the feeling of privacy at night. We only heard the sounds of nature while we were outside! The home is very clean, fully stocked with all the kitchen ware you would need, and a strong internet WiFi which our children enjoyed!

Fairplay/Alma is the activity center of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Activities closeby include: skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain climbing, snow-shoeing, horseback riding (winter too), ice climbing, fishing, hunting, rafting, snow-mobiling, 4-wheeling, ATVing, mine exploring, canoeing, kayaking, and much much more. If you can think of an outdoor activity, you will probably find it within 10-30 minutes of the cabin. It is a great place to call 'Base Camp'. You can find all of these activities within minutes of the home:

**FISHING ... Gold Medal/Blue Ribbon Fishing--5 area lakes and public river a short drive away

**National Forest/Montgomery Reservoir; Lincoln Falls; ice climbing; skiing; snowboarding; and some of the best snow-shoeing and 4-wheeling in Colorado within minutes of home.

**Fairplay (15 min S): Historic Mining Town, fly-fishing, panning for gold.

**Breckenridge (45 min N): skiing, snow-boarding, snowmobiling, fishing, boating, golfing.

**Jefferson Lake (60 min NE): trout fishing, walking.

**Buena Vista (60 min S): Hot Springs, fishing, raft the Arkansas River.

**Salida (90 min S): fishing, hiking, jeep trails, rafting.

**Como (30 min NE): Historic Railroad District.

**Cripple Creek (1 hr 45 min SE): gold mining, gambling.

**Canon City (1 hr 45 min SE): home of the Royal Gorge.

**Leadville (1 hr 45 min S, then N): mountain climbing, antiquing, ghost town.

**Manitou Springs (1 hr 50 min SE): Cave of the Winds, Pikes Peak.

This home is beautiful all seasons of the year. The views are amazing because it's at 11,000 feet! Please note that this altitude can affect some people, causing symptoms of lightheadedness, headache, and nausea. It is important to push fluids, and avoid caffeine and alcohol. Some folks may want to consult their doctor about anti-altitude sickness medication.

The cabin is about 7 miles from the main road and the drive up to the cabin is over a hard-packed gravel road. Sometimes it can be pretty rough, therefore 4-wheel drive is recommended at all times, and essential in the winter months. While the road is kept well-plowed, conditions during the winter can be icy.
