1 BR, 1 bath lakeside cabin near Chetek, WI
About Laura Frey-Law
My mother, two brothers, sister, and I own this cottage that was built by my father's parents by hand in ~ 1951. After my father passed away in 2014, we decided to remodel this little 1 room cottage into something we could cherish and honor his and my grandparents' memories with. We have spent many weekends doing some of the work our selves (but had most of it done professionally!) and refinished several pieces of furniture to re-use in this space. We heard so many stories about the times my dad spent up here with his parents as a teenager, have memories of our own spending time up here in the past, and hope to create new ones going forward. We hope to share this respite with others to generate their own memories and find a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life!

Why Laura Frey-Law chose New Auburn
This cottage was originally built by my grandparents as a 1 room cabin in the early 1950's, without water or electricity. We have relocated the original structure back ~50' and added the great room addition, along with modern amenities to bring our family cottage into the current millennium. It is conveniently located about 30 min north of Eau Claire, WI and is just 15 min from the cute resort town of Chetek, WI. Plenty of places to visit in the area, but we admit, we most enjoy just relaxing at the lake!
What makes this Cabin unique
Enjoy the rustic modern decor, with sliding barn doors, oak farm table and oak ship-lap accent walls milled locally from the trees harvested when the cottage was relocated. Numerous antique and vintage items from my grandparents' home have been re-purposed and used to enhance the natural and timeless beauty of this little gem in the woods.

The cabin was perfect, even if weather wasn't.
Little precipatory, but it was such a nice place to stay and the owner was great with communication. Everyone enjoyed the cottage and view! Thank you again!
Perfect Fall Getaway
This is a fabulous property. The character of the cabin is charmingly eclectic.....rustic meets modern. The choice of building materials both inside and out just makes for a really fun place. It is very tidy and super clean. It is very peaceful and quiet....at least in the Fall when I stayed there. The view from dock at lakeside is awesome.....I particularly enjoyed the Fall colors. The access to a canoe, rowboat, and kayaks is a nice added benefit, although I got to go out on the lake only once because it was windy most of the time......typical Midwest October. The only downside to consider is that the climb from the shore up to the cabin is a decent workout......no problem for young folks or someone in at least reasonable shape, but some elderly people might not be able to handle it well.
One thing I really appreciated was the small 1 bedroom size. That’s a bit rare. You get a really nice place for a relatively good price because you are not paying for more square footage than you need if you are a solo person seeking solitude, or a couple looking for a perfect getaway.
I will likely book this place again. I very much appreciated the opportunity to stay here!
We enjoyed quiet time at this lake cabin.
We loved the cottage - beautifully decorated and a great size for two of us. Not too big and not too small. Everything is thoughtfully organized and there wasn't anything we needed that wasn't there.
We biked (it's worth a trip over to the Old Abe trail in Cornell, WI), hiked (at the nearby Chippewa Moraine State Rec Area) and used the kayaks on the lake. And spent many, many hours on the screened porch just relaxing and enjoying the quiet.
The photos of the Frey family at the cottage from the 50s are very fun to look at.
A truly great stay and we hope to be back again. Thank you!
Relax and Recharge
The property was everything we expected. Very comfortable for two folks and their two dogs. Enjoyed not having TV news for 10 days, hence the "relaxing." We did have rain several times during our stay, which gave us the motivation to visit the Norske Nook in Rice Lake a couple times for the sinfully delicious pies. We would return in the future.
This was the cutest cabin and we had an enjoyable stay. We bought a firestick to watch TV and the wifi was strong enough to support.
Would highly recommend.
