Charles & Faye purchased the home in 2012 and renovated the cottage from top to bottom. We grew up in rural South Georgia and both love history, historic homes & furnishings. On a trip home from the beach ~10 years ago, Faye and I got our first dose of Savannah; we immediately fell in love the with charm and beauty of the City. For the next several years we would visit and dream of one day having our on piece of Savannah. The Captain's Cottage is now that piece for us; we enjoy visiting Savannah every chance we get as well as having the opportunity to share our home with you.
Not only do we enjoy Savannah, but so do our 3 beagles, Belle, Bug and Scout. They love strolling the streets and visiting the squares; most of all they love the attention they attract from their new friends they met along the way. Scout's favorite thing is to stand on the porch and greet the walking tours; he tries to see how many passersby he can sucker into a pet or tell him how cute he is....
We hope you enjoy our home & Savannah just as much as we do and look forward to being available to offer suggestions of our personal favorites.
Charles Owens purchased this cottage in 2012
Each time Faye and I visited Savannah we found ourselves walking through Washington Square; it is magnetic, peaceful and beautifully maintained with manicured landscape. So when we talked about purchasing a property we knew the perfect home would be near our favorite square, Washington Square.
After months of watching the internet listings we contacted realtor, Mathew Allen. In talking with Matthew we decided to look at 2 homes nearby; it took just one visit to the Captain's Cottage for us to know this was it. It was exactly what wished for, 2 houses off Washington Square, 2b/2b, single story with a courtyard..... the perfect choice for us and our Beagles.
The Captain's Cottage is in the heart of the Landmark District, the oldest section of Savannah. Just 2 blocks from the famous River Street; easy walk to Broughton Street for shopping and dining; there are literally more restaurants within walking distance than I can name.
Every visitor coming to Savannah will visit the Landmark District so stay in the heart of the points of interest.
Our tree-lined street is one of the most beautiful in Savannah. There is no better street for strolling and enjoying the beautiful architecture, warm southern breezes and historic charm. It will take just one visit to see why Savannah is named the 'Hostess City'.
Your house is beautiful. Everything at your fingertips to make your stay so enjoyable. My friends and I toured the city and our stay was wonderful. We enjoyed the park just walking distance from the house and spent alot of evenings there just admiring the beauty of the surroundings.
Again, I have stayed alot of places but, your house is first on my list. If we are ever in the area again that is where we would like to stay. Our concern at first was the parking but, we bought the pass and stayed in front of the house the whole time and walked most places where we wanted to go..
The Captain's Cottage is beautiful, tastefully decorated, clean, close to all of Historic downtown Savannah. The strategic night lights are very helpful. Wifi was awesome. Parking was available in front of the house most nights.
Our stay was very comfortable and we enjoyed Savannah, the amazing food and architecture. We would DEFINATELY stay here again!
Stayed here with my 70+ year old mother and her friend. I attended a conference at the Westin (short 15 minute drive) across the river and they explored the city. They were able to catch a trolley at the Pirate's House Restaurant (great place to eat dinner and less than a block away) and get on and off at any stop they wanted. The house is fantastic. Parking was great. I would highly recommend to anyone!
Location is perfect, within walking distance of all Historic District. House decor was spectacular and a very comfortable place to enjoy a girls weekend. Would highly recommend this VBRO and hope to return.
The captains cottage was close to everything for walking. The home was clean and spacious. Charles is Welcoming and so helpful. Best vrbo experience due to Charles! Thank you for sharing your home.
Lost an android cell phone so if anyone locates please let me know!
I was in town for a conference at the Hyatt and needed a pet friendly location for me, my wife, a co-worker and my dog. Captain's Cottage was a perfect fit. Very clean and close to everything. It was also very easy to reach Charles for questions before I made the reservations and he responded in less than 2 mins when I had a question during the rental. I will stay here again when I visit Savannah.
What a wonderful cottage and convenient to everything. The cottage was clean, well stocked and very comfortable, plenty of amenities, well maintained. Received a phone call from the owner on the date of our arrival to be sure we did not need anything. We walked everywhere. Park is one block away to walk the dogs and allow them to relieve themselves. Bella Napoli Italian Bistro has excellent italian food, Savannah Taphouse restaurant was delicious. But I don't think you can go wrong anywhere you eat in this wonderful city. We will diffently stay at this wonderful cottage again very soon. Thank you Charles for sharing your beautiful house.
