Waggin' Tales Lodge is my dream, and I'm excited to share it with you. The views from the over 1000sq/ft of covered porches and decks are the best the lake has to offer. Rustic Elegance is what I was going for, and the peace and serenity that you will enjoy is exceptional. The screened porch is attached to the lodge, and you can enjoy the view while taking in a roaring fire in the outdoor fireplace—call it your place to get away from it all. Everything was designed to make you feel at home, including the custom kitchen with commercial gas range and copper sink.
The cabin was finished on December 23, 2007—and is named in honor of my three dogs...now you know where the name came from! Local craftsmen from the area made everything from the cabinets to the unique railings that don’t block the view. Their commitment to quality is seen throughout.

Gas Fireplace in living room
Over 1,000 sq/ft of porches and decks (80% covered)

Unwind a bit,
Darren & Carmen
I've been coming up to this area for 14 years and simply fell in love with the mountains - it simply amazes me. Fly fishing, boating, whitewater rafting, hiking the AT, and enjoying friends…can there be anything better than that!
Darren purchased this lodge in 2007
This was a lifelong dream and I was fortunate to be able to find the property, design the cabin, and actually do some of the work myself. The tile work, hardwood floors, stone, and painting and staining were all done by me and my friends.
The 3 Bear just makes people happy - try it and see for yourself!
We went for a family trip. The cabin had all of the comforts of home. Had a great time on the water. The folks at the marina were very friendly and the water is crystal clear. I would recommend to anyone looking to unplug and relax.
House: Fantastic! Well built, meticulously planned and artfully executed! The house is wonderful and was perfect for the 6-10 of us for the week. The 3 bedrooms provided privacy and comfort for the 6 core guests and the basement/game room provided an excellent temporary bedroom for 2 nights for extended family. This house is very luxurious in an earthy "lodge" style. The finishes are top quality, furnishings are comfortable yet stylish and the attention to details (like the whole house audio) was impressive. Everything worked as intended and there were no issues of age or deferred maintenance at all. Hot tub was fantastic!
Location: Very good! The pros are the house is located within a short drive (almost a walk) of the boat ramp and within a 5 minute drive of the only real restaurant, marina, store and gas around the lake. This came in handy several times. Keep in mind, this lake is not really near ANYTHING (unless you stay in the NW corner) and thus easy access to the few amenities are welcome. The house is perched about 150' above the lake / dock and the views from this spot are amazing! Both the lake and the mountains are spectacular from this vantage. If you spend the majority of your time at the house and on the porches, this quickly becomes your "entertainment". Watching the sunrise/sunsets and watching the storms roll over the mountains and down into the lake was wonderful. The downside would be the walk back up from the dock to the house. There are 122 steps, so if there is someone in your party with limited mobility you must make alternate plans. Although I did the staircase 2-3x per day (we rented a boat for the week) , my party chose not to and simply drove to the boat ramp. Plenty of parking and easy access within a 1-2 minute drive from the driveway. Even if you stay on one of the "first tier" waterfront homes, this method of transporting coolers and other heavy items using the car is still valuable.
Owner/Support: Outstanding!! Darren was in contact whenever we needed him and silent when we did not. He provided a comprehensive list of instructions, tips and advice. We were in contact via email, text, cell and landline. And when something unexpected popped up he instantly resolved it! Cannot say enough great things about the owners!
In summary, this is a beautiful home in a spectacular location run by attentive owners. Our vacation was darned near perfect and we would definitely return!
We had a wonderful family vacation. Everyone has unforgettable moments. The house is beautiful, spacious, clean and well-maintained. It has everything you need To have a great week. The teenagers had a blast. The room downstair is awesome with the pool table. And the jacuzzi is a plus. We spent a lot of time in the porch admiring the wonderful view of the mountains and Lake Nantahala. The Lake is beautiful and peaceful. We rented a boat for few days and it was awesome. Darren, the owner, was extremely responsive and available every time that we needed him. We recommend you to plan ahead the meals and everything you will need for the week. We recommend 100% this house for family gathering.
It's a beautiful house with a lovely view and everything you need to enjoy your vacation. I can't wait to go back. This is really one of the nicer places I've stayed.
Tip: When you leave, you have to haul your garbage to a nearby recycling center. It's open 8-5 weekdays, but it opens at 12pm Saturday and is closed on Sundays. Plan accordingly.
Had a phenomenal fishing trip this spring. The actual fishing didn’t go so well, but the house totally made up for it. Our group put a fishing boat in at the ramp, only about 100 yards away, and left it tied to the dock during our stay. The hike from the dock to house was pretty darn steep, but entirely worth it. We really enjoyed grilling out and playing games on the deck all while taking in the spectacular views, not to mention the hot tub, pool table, and awesome whole house audio.
The owner was a pleasure to work with and extremely responsive.
Thank you Darren for sharing this unbelievable home. This was a last minute decision for us and Darren made it so easy, responded fast to every question we had. This place is so beautiful the pictures don't do it justice. Our family of 6 had plenty of room to spread out and be comfortable. The pool table , the hot tub with the lake views and the kayaks put this place over the top .everything you could want from home in mountains, we can't wait to go back.
Nantahala Outdoor Center offers zip lining, family white water rafting (even class V for the extreme sport enthusiasts), ropes courses and TSALI is world class mountain biking. Not to mention all that the Smokies have to offer.
