This superb villa is an ideal place for breaks throughout the year. The Spring and Autumn seasons are pleasantly warm and are great times to play golf on the Pont Royal course (designed by Seve Ballesteros) or on other courses in the area. The warmer summer months will encourage you to relax around the pool - or to take part in the various activities on site (including a wave pool, swimming pools, horse riding, tennis, mini farm, playground and Kids' clubs). Mediterranean beaches are within an hour's drive. The villa is south-facing with a large terrace and steps down to the pool and pool house (with BBQ area). The large garden contains a boules court off to one side for those that fancy themselves at Petanque. Inside the villa downstairs there is a large open plan lounge, dining room and bar area with a fully-equipped kitchen, utility room and WC, upstairs there is a Master bedroom with en-suite bathroom plus a further 3 large double bedrooms and a family bathroom with shower.
I grew up in a small village in Bedfordshire called Maulden. I went to school in Bedford and on to University in Leicester. After a short spell training to be a Chartered Accountant I moved into recruitment in 1984. Whilst I found accountancy to be a little dry, by contrast I fell in love with the variety and people element in recruitment. I spent 24 years with two multi-national players before joining a boutique firm called Investigo in 2010. 3 years later I led an MBO and am currently CEO. I have three wonderful children Alex, Charlie and Archie and am married to Michelle who keeps me on my toes. Life is rarely boring.
Gary Watson purchased this villa in 2004
I had fallen in love with Provence having had holidays in the region for many years. I also enjoy playing golf so back in 2003 we had decided to look to buy a house. We had looked at several locations but when we discovered Pont Royal it put everything else in the shade. We could tell at the main entrance that we had arrived at something special. A friendly welcome was then followed by us driving slowly on the road bordering the 5th golf hole. The course was in magnificent condition and I couldn't help but envy the players as they strolled down the beautiful fairway.
The decision then wasn't if we would buy but when we would buy. We picked out a lovely plot which was only a 10 minute stroll to the centre and to the golf club. A few years have now gone by and I still feel the same sense of excitement as we drive through the entrance. For us, it's a little glimpse of heaven...
The house is very peaceful. We have houses around us but we're not over-looked by anyone. You have choices on where to eat: inside at the dining table, outside on the terrace underneath the wisteria or down in the pool house. The days can be spent in and around the pool and if you fancy a snooze there's always the hammock on the terrace underneath the honey-suckle. Pre BBQ is always a good time to test your skill on the boules court.
Lovely property, well maintained and equipped to a good standard (Which is not always the case on villa rentals). On arrival the house and garden were both clean and both matched online description and photos. All rooms were a good size so always felt we had plenty of space. The pool was heated so could even be used in the morning, which we did every day. BBQ was great, gas was provided and was used often. Having the Wi-Fi, sky box and a decent TV that the kids could screen/cast to from there tablets was also handy, especially at the hottest times of the day. Gary the owner was always helpful and quick to respond, as was Karen the onsite rep.
Pont Royal is a nice resort with plenty of activities for the kids. Restaurants on site were average, but Mallemort had some good restaurants, so worth visiting.
As usual in France, there are decent markets/supermarkets/wine caves/bakers etc nearby
Would love to go back and would highly recommend Les Coquelicots
My husband and I were quite dubious about going away with our 2 year old toddler and 7 month old baby but Gary and Karen could not have prepared the villa better for us. Having sent a number of emails to a very patient Gary ahead of our holiday asking numerous questions about what was on site for my two little boys, we couldnt have been happier with what awaited for us when we arrived tired and hungry after a day of traveling.
The kitchen was stocked with all the essentials we needed. There were two travel cots set up complete with mattresses and sheets. Our baby had a bouncy chair and walker waiting for him and there was enough swimming inflatables and safety devices to keep both boys splashing in the pool for hours on end.
My husband was delighted that there was Sky TV and very good WiFi and I was excited to see a number of sun loungers and comfy garden furniture for the odd hour I got to actually sunbathe.
Karen was super fast coming back to us during our stay fixing any issues or answering any questions on the villa and area that we had.
Pont Royal is a lovely resort with plenty to do. Our eldest son loved going to the petting farm each morning and running around the square whilst we had coffee in one of the many cafes on site.
Just be aware that if you are staying with small children the pool isnt fenced off so you need to be extra vigilant but that was our choice.
A huge thank you to Gary and Karen for helping make our first family holiday abroad stress free.
A very large, well appointed property set in a gated community. The property was clean on arrival and description matched as per advertisement. The pool was large and warm which was maintained to a high standard along with the garden. Ideal for families and those with children, we were a family of 4 adults and 2 kids age 4 and 8. Added bonus was the BSKYB Box which kept the kids entertained in the evening whilst the adults relaxed outside. We would definitely come back to this property, but would probably fly into Marseille (45 mins) as opposed to Nice (2 hour) to save travelling time. Property was only minutes away from InterMarche in Mallemort where all grocery goods can be purchased and meat for the BBQ. Very nice restaurants in Mallemort and well worth a visit. This property exceeded out expectations, thank you to Gary.
This beautiful house is very well located (on a gated private domaine which also houses a gold club) for exploring the south coast, the Luberon area, the Camargue and key towns such as Avignon, Arles and Aix-en-Provence. It is well equipped, spacious and comfortable. The pool and barbecue area are wonderful on a warm evening and there is a large supermarket less than ten minutes away where you can buy all your BBQ goodies. Gas was provided in the BBQ as well as everything else we needed. Highly recommended!!
Les Coquelicots is a beautiful house located on a private, gated domaine which also houses a golf club. With good sized bedrooms, a large lounge / dining area and a lovely garden with pool and barbecue area, it offers everything you want on holiday. It is within easy reach of the south coast, the Luberon area, the Camargue, as well as towns such as Avignon, Arles and Aix-en-Provence. The house has a double garage and parking for two cars. Easily accessible (we flew to Nimes), about 45 minutes from the airport. Would not hesitate to recommend.
Beautiful property, exceptionally well presented, pool area was superb, very well equipped and would highly recommend! Good location for sightseeing in Provence and Languedoc area, lots of activities on site such as bike hire, quad biking, etc. Villa is really immaculate and would not be able to fault any aspect!
The sun shines for 300 days a year. The light is incredible - just ask Cezanne and Van Gogh! There are 3 fascinating and quite different cities within 60 minutes: Marseille, Avignon and Aix. The countryside is beautiful with the Luberon to the north, the Alpilles to the west, the Camargue to the south-west, the sea to the south and the Cote d'Azur to the south-east. Pont Royal is a special place: pretty, well-kept, clean, safe (one entrance with security), with an 18 hole championship golf course, tennis, swimming pools, shops and restaurants. There are plenty of local vineyards where the wine is surprisingly good. And plenty of fabulous villages to explore: Lourmarin, Roussillon, Menerbes, Lacoste, Gordes, Bonnieux and Curcoron - to name but a few. This is 'real' Provence.
