Cute Tiny Home in the MLF Community First Village with a Wizard of Oz theme
Ruby is at the Community First Village, a 27-acre master planned community for the homeless in East Austin. A bathroom/shower is located inside the house. Gardens, chickens, goats, donkeys, bees, blacksmithing, timberframing and more are all happening right outside your window. I also encourage you to contact us about volunteering in one of our onsite micro-enterprises for a story to tell your friends about. Its a Village for the chronically homeless that is visited by thousands annually.
For more information on the village visit:
We have 27 acres full of some of the most innovative tiny houses in the city and 24 wooded acres next door that you can ramble on, trail run, and play with the miniature donkeys. Feel free to explore anywhere throughout the village.
Every Friday night (and occasional other nights) we do outdoor movie nights where generally first run movies are played for free and open to the public. Your unit is directly in front of the screen and is a great place to chill, eat popcorn, and watch the movie from. Movies generally start 10 minutes after sundown. Check in with us and we can tell you what movies are playing the night you'd like to stay. You can also check the Mobile Loaves and Fishes Facebook page for other workshops and events. In addition to our Community Market for convenience store goods, there is a brand new Mexican Grocery down the street that has AMAZING breakfast tacos. Donn's BBQ is also just a minute down the road.
There are tiny house communities around the country, but there are none on 27 acres. We will grow to 250 people this year (including my home!). The Community First Village is a $17.5 million dollar community specifically built for the richest people in Austin, but we only rent to the chronically homeless. Although, the Community Inn here in the village is open to everyone. Everyday we get visitors from around the country for tours and for the wisdom we've received in the last 18 years of working with the chronically despised of our city. Our experience is that transformation is not only possible, its beautiful; for you, for me, and for everyone.
We have a city bus line that runs to the Village (the 237) until 6:30pm every night. The 37 line drops off about 3/4 of a mile down the road. During rush hour we are 30 minutes from the heart of the city, but most of the day it only takes 20 minutes to get to the Capital.
