About Wes or Carrie Mentele

My wife and I were born and raised in SD. We have 3 children. We have loved visiting the Black Hills for many years with our family. We love outdoor activities and nature. We currently live in southeast SD, but take every chance to visit the Black Hills. It has been our dream to have a Black Hills cabin and are happy to share our piece of heaven with you.

Wes or Carrie Mentele purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Wes or Carrie Mentele chose Black Hills

The Rochford Area is truly beautiful and peaceful. We love to bike, snowmobile, hike, hunt, and ride ATV's and this location offers us all of these activities and more.

What makes this cabin unique

We fell in love with our cabin when we first saw it. We are able to listen to Rapid Creek run through our front yard and view the surrounding mountains of the Black Hills from our deck. The kids love sledding and playing on the 3 acres and the surrounding National Forest. There are several ATV trails close to the property. There is a nearby campground just a few miles down the road and there is direct access to the Black Hills snowmobile trail system there. Skiing is just 25 minutes up the road.

Clean and Quiet!

  • 5 of 5

Very impressed with the cleanliness of the cabin. They have everything you will need for cooking. The open area of the kitchen, dining and living room lets you enjoy togetherness or you can retreat to the back game room or two of the outside decks or wander down to the creek for another sitting area. We enjoyed the lawn as we had little one's in our group that needed some space (hey the adults didn't mind it either-we brought a corn hole game with us and had tournaments everynight!) Thank you for sharing your cabin with us!

Remote get-a- way

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed the remoteness of the cabin. When we stay in the hills, we prefer to stay away from tourist crowd explore nature. We enjoyed watching the deer and fishing in the nearby lakes/streams. The boys like the pool table. We would definitely stay again.

Lovely stay and very quiet

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Creekside Cabin. It was clean and the pictures are a good representation of the cabin. It was spacious with plenty of sleeping accommodations, two large bathrooms, and a large gameroom. The kitchen was stocked well for cooking and there are multiple options for dining inside or out. There is a lovely bubbling brook out front with gorgeous views of the Black Hills beyond. The deer were grazing nearby every morning and evening. It was a little off the beaten path, but that wouldn't keep us from coming back. We used it as the springboard for multiple day trips to the amazing sites and gorgeous scenery in and around South Dakota. It would be the perfect location for a small family get-together or girls'/guys' get-away. The host was very accommodating, as this was a last minute booking. He was friendly and helpful. Loved our stay!

A wonderful getaway in the heart of the Black Hills!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for our family of 10 to enjoy a first visit to the Black Hills, with plenty of room to relax together as a family. The creek below the house, the wind in the pines on the hill across the road made a perfect soundtrack to our week. We made many meals in the spacious kitchen and walked down the hill to Rochord one afternoon for lunch at the Moonshine Gulch Saloon. The kids would like us to move here for good. We'd be happy just to come back for other visits. Future renters should know that Hill City is more than half an hour away by car, but we liked being out in the hills and saw plenty of deer and other wildlife. The peace and quiet was wonderful.

The cabin is located in a scenic valley surrounded by mountains in the Black Hills National Forest. Rapid Creek winds through the property creating a peaceful atmosphere. Deadwood/Lead are just 25 minutes away via Hwy 85 and Rochford Road. We are located 2 miles from the Historic city of Rochford. The Michelson trail is less that .75 miles away, which gives you access to over a hundred miles of bike trails. Black Hills ATV trails are very close. Snowmobile trail access is within a few miles of the cabin. There are over 350 miles of groomed snowmobile trails throughout the Black Hills. There is great hunting opportunities for deer, elk, mountain lion, and turkey on surrounding Black Hills National Forest. Fishing is available directly from the private stream in the front yard.
