Breaking News.. We just enclosed the front porch making this more private and bug free. Perfect hillside hideaway to get away from it all.
This airy bedroom suite is naturally ventilated with fans and is not equipped with air conditioning.
The suite contains a queen size bed, efficiency kitchen, Jacuzzi tub, sun deck with adjoining covered veranda to 'chill out' and watch the boats in the harbor.
Paul and Judy met in 1973 and have been going strong ever since. After moving to 'the islands' in 1986 to run a 76' wooden ketch they stayed active in the marine trades for twenty four years. In that time Paul, a woodworker and carpenter, and Judy, the interior decorator and landscape architect, took ten years to build the Century House Villa and Crows Nest Guest house. This labor of love was designed by Michael Arneborg a prolific architect for the area. The Crows Nest was meant to be the 'rental we would want to discover for our own' Paul and Judy will bid you a warm welcome and will give you as much or as little advice as you need as you discover 'natures little secret' BVI Tourist Board.
Judith A. Carrell purchased this cottage in 1989
Boungainvilleas, Palm trees, Frangipani, and stonework frame the water views from your verandah overlooking Sir Frances Drakes Channel.
Watching the sunrise over Sir Frances Drakes Channel while planning your day and futures while savoring morning coffee and tea in the hot tub.
Seeing a 43 meter megayacht dock at the marinas down below.
Having a 'sun downer' from the newly enclosed, veranda while seeing the evening sky descend around you.
Catching a meteor shower while viewing the Milky Way.
Paul and Judy- we were so glad to have rented the Crows Nest from you.
Perfect for a romantic couple getaway. We will forever remember the
breath-taking view of the harbor from our porch. We really appreciated
all of the thoughtful and convenient touches the Crows Nest offered
us.The only problem was when we had to leave. Hope to come again.Bill and Pam
We were looking for a little piece of heaven either in the US Virgin Islands or British Virgin Islands to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary and we found it at the Crow’s Nest, Tortola BVI.
The owner’s description is spot on! The pictures don't do it justice as it is truthfully more breathtaking in person. The cottage is beautifully crafted and nicely decorated. The landscaping is amazing and the outdoor shower was private and especially peaceful.
Pack light as the Crow’s Nest is filled with everything you need and none of what you don’t. The cottage sits on the hillside and the views from the front porch or sun deck are amazing. The cedar tub was the perfect way to wind down the evening along with a cold local Island Hoppin IPA.
We highly recommend renting a vehicle to drive the entire island...really get down and local. Crazy fun driving! We visited several local restaurants; loved D'Coal Pot Restaurant and Grill and most romantic open-air restaurant for us was Frenchmans BVI. Because we are beach goer’s, we did visit many of Tortola’s beaches, but always returned to Smuggler’s Cove…it was our favorite. On Smuggler’s Cove we especially enjoyed the food and beverages at Nigel's Snack Shack (Nigel is an awesome individual). It’s a great walk (about 30 minutes) from the cottage to Smuggler’s Cove.
Grab a ferry and visit White Bay Beach, Jost Van Dyke (so spectacular).
It's famous so don’t forget to indulge in an original Painkiller drink at the Soggy Dollar Bar. Hungry or not, please order the most delicious Lobster Quesadilla ever at the One Love Bar and Grill just down from the Soggy Dollar.
The icing on the cake for us was meeting the owner’s Paul and Judy…two of the most caring and thoughtful hosts you will have the pleasure of meeting.
The Crow's Nest was a fantastic find and so deserving of 5 stars!
The cottage is located above Soper's Hole at the West End of Tortola, just above the ferry dock. The ferry runs between this location and St Thomas USVI. We arrived at the Tortola Airport and rented a car from Dee Dee's (from a guy named Deadmon!). Having a car works the best as you can visit the beaches nearby, run for groceries, dinner, etc. You cannot walk from the commercial area at Soper's Hole to the unit. At first the roadway seems treacherous, but you get used to it. We had the most wonderful stay here-we did not want to leave. There is a private deck with awesome 180 degree views, an outside shower, hot tub in the deck and screened porch. We spent a lot of our time enjoying the deck during the day, soaking up the sun, the views and a few cocktails. Although the owner's home is just below, it is private-no annoying tan lines. The owners have stocked the unit with everything you need and more-chairs to take to the beach, coffee, a couple beers, toiletries, satellite TV with sound system, ice trays, DVD player, toaster oven, coffee maker, hot plate, pots, pans, plates, utensils, books, DVDs, etc. The kitchen is small, but perfect for a bagel breakfast, fry an egg, sandwiches, etc. (Which saves a lot of money when you don't have to buy breakfast and lunch) Part of me hates to tell everyone how great this little gem is and kept it to ourselves, but the owner's were so nice and gracious they, and their property, deserve all the praise in the world. WE WILL BE BACK!
This was our first VRBO.com booking, but it won't be our last. Crow's Nest is lovely--such a view!. Paul and Judy are wonderful. Judy thought of our every need--coffee, paper towels, dishware, toiletries, beach chairs, etc. It's located on a good part of the island--away from the busy mess of Road Town, but near Smuggler's Beach, the grocery store and restaurants of Frenchman's Cay, and the West End ferry. You'll need a rental vehicle, but we always rent anyway because we love to explore every inch of the island's we visit. There is noise from the Bay and neighboring roosters and dogs, but we didn't mind too much. We are used to our king-sized bed, so we had to adjust to the queen. I loved the outdoor shower--it felt risque, but it was a bit cool one night when I had to shower late. At Crow's Nest, you are not on the beach and don't have a pool (although there is a small hot tub), but you are staying in a lovely cottage with amazing views owned by two people who are clearly proud of their rental (rightly so!). Overall, we loved the Crow's Nest and recommend it.
This lovely perch high above Sopers Hole on Tortola had all the amenities one could want, very clean, very well appointed. Owners, the Carrols were there for our every need, and their meticulous landscaping enhanced this beautiful setting. Very close to Frenchman Key, for shopping and restaurants, if driving stay left. Hope to return!!!!!

Judy and Paul have built an adorable bungalow, overlooking Soper's Hole Marina! Every little detail was taken care of, they created a charming piece of paradise! We had such a fun time exploring the island, the cottage is in a very convenient location where you have the marina, restaurants and shops all within 5 minutes! We went diving from Nanny Cay and that was only 15 minutes away! But you could spend your day just sitting on the deck watching the boats come and go! Beaches are a short ride away, and all were spectacular with clear, bright, water and white sand!
Can't forget Doodle the resident dog, who greeted us every day when we returned home!
Thank you again Judy and Paul, for creating a home away from home!!
Paul and Judy are awesome and so is their place!! The Crow's Nest is located on the west end of Tortola, facing Soper's Hole. The view is absolutely breath-taking. The guest house is located just above where Judy and Paul live so it is very private and secluded. They were so accommodating, providing us with advice about where to go and what to see. We told them we were looking to go to Virgin Gorda one day and Judy looked up the cruise schedule for us so that we could avoid the crowds. They provided us with fresh sheets and towels on a daily basis and always made sure the hot tub was clean and functioning. My boyfriend (now fiance - he proposed on the trip!!) and I were in Tortola looking for a Caribbean escape from our city lives and this stay gave us everything we wanted and more. Some highlights of the trip and things we suggest others to do: sunset at Bananakeet, lunch at Brandywine Estate, late night party at Fish'n'Lime (Tuesdays and Fridays they have live music), ferry over to Virgin Gorda and see the baths (eat at CocoMaya), rent a boat or take a charter over to Jos Van Dyke and Norman Island, snorkel the Indians, have a relaxing day on Brewer's Beach, watch the surfers/or surf in front of the Bombashack, and have a nice long walk on the beach at Long Bay Beach :)
The Crows Nest Guest House is located in a tropical landscape setting adjacent to and slightly higher then the Century House Villa which overlooks Sopers Hole, West End, a natural harbor and anchorage for many private and charter boats for the BVI's.
We recommend guests fly into St. Thomas USVI and take the ferry over to West End, Tortola. Make sure to arrive in STT by 3:00 pm to make the connection.
