Bar Harbor Cottage Rental Photos and Description

7 Bedrooms, 6-1/2 Baths, Water access

Anchorhold, a 5000+ sq. ft. 'cottage' in a national historic district, was built in 1885 and lovingly restored since 2009. Perfect for family and friend vacations, birthdays and anniversaries, the house sleeps 13 and has 7 bedrooms, 4 of which have private bathrooms. This house has central air on the main floor and includes an eat-in kitchen with a large farm table that seats 8+, an island with 2 stools, and a formal dining room that seats 10. A dining deck lies just outside the kitchen through the french doors. The house has a large living room and a family room (Oak Room), with a natural fireplace, overlooking Frenchman Bay. Outside the living room is a covered veranda also overlooking the water and the Porcupine Islands. The main floor has a half bath off of the foyer and a laundry/mud room off of the kitchen.

The main-floor master bedroom suite (Cook's Quarters), with central air, has a king-size bed. The bathroom includes the original pedestal tub and separate step-in shower with handrails and bench.

The remaining six bedrooms are located on the second floor. The Blue Room has one low-profile twin bed and shares a hall shower-bathroom with the Chapel Room. The Chapel Room has two beds and walk-in closet. It overlooks the stone-walled lawn and gardens. The Morgan Room has two twin beds (convertible to king upon request), a private balcony, and en-suite bathroom with tub/shower. The Master Bedroom (Mrs. Randolph's Room) with private balcony on Frenchman Bay has a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom with pedestal sink, original tub, separate shower (with handrails), toilet and bidet. The Dorr Room has a king-size bed, en-suite bath w/shower and handrails, plus bench, and private covered porch overlooking the water. The Whitney Room has a 4 poster king-size bed with Bay view. The bathroom across the hall has a claw foot tub and separate shower. All bedrooms upstairs have individual, remote control, A/C wall units and additional fans.

The second floor also has a laundry room.

Courtyard garden has a charcoal bar-b-que.

Grotto steps lead down to the seawall where beach is exposed at low tide. Great for shelling and finding beach glass. Also hike to Bar Island.

Please note that Anchorhold is rented weekly only, from Sunday to Sunday and is a pet-free and smoke-free home.

*Ask about our other rental for overflow guests: 3 BR, 2 1/2 bath semi-detached condo, Nut Hatch #5, built in 2008, 1/4 mile away from Anchorhold up West St. Extension, just feet from Acadia National Park entrance. Stately American Beauty

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for the perfect place to call home while in Bar Harbor, look no further. A group of ten of us spent a week in this perfectly restored American beauty of a home. When we arrived, we were greeted by bright colored flowers in the front garden and a sprawling green lawn. Every room in the house is large and beautifully furnished, yet comfortable and welcoming. The kitchen is huge and fully equipped, so the gourmet cooks in our group kept busy while the rest of us enjoyed relaxing in the sun on the deck or sitting and chatting in the wicker chairs on the side porch. Either place offers amazing views of the bay both at sunrise and sunset. The house sits back on a quiet little lane but is conveniently located within less than a mile walk to the town of Bar Harbor for shopping, restaurants, and of course ice cream. Entrances to Acadia are close by as well, which was perfect for the bikers and hikers in our group. We all were fascinated by the history of this house and were thrilled to have the opportunity to experience living in it for the week. Anchorhold truly made wonderful vacation memories for us all.

Anchorhold - a vacation destination not to be missed!

  • 5 of 5

We had the opportunity to stay at Anchorhold last week and enjoy our visit to Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Isle more than we ever thought possible. The home is beautiful, comfortable and welcoming - a perfect place to enjoy all that the area has to offer. From an easy walk into town, to a short walk to Bar Island, to lazy mornings with coffee on the patio and late day cocktails at sunset in the gazebo, each day just surpassed the day before. Anchorhold is comfortably furnished and has a gourmet kitchen that makes you want to linger just a little longer over every meal. The laundry facilities came in handy and the house is roomy enough that everyone in our group of eight had as much space as they could possibly want. Many thanks to the owners for sharing such a wonderful home with all of us,

I want to live here!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This "cottage" and I use the term very losely is amazing. It is huge, yet very homey and comfortable. The kitchen is new, and completely up dated. All throughout the house are spectacular views. The location is to die for. You can walk right over to the "Bar" out the back door. Or just sitting on one of the porches is extremely relaxing. You are in walking distance of everything. Bar Harbor it's self has so much to offer and do. This home is a block from the base of Acadia National park. Biking, hiking, climbing, riding this park has it all. There are wonderful restaurants and a great farmers market. Your vacation here could be as low key as you want or as thrilling and athletic as you want. I can not say enough how much I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this property and I can't wait to return.
