“Sandpiper” is a charming artist owned two-storey, 2/2 cottage with it's own deep water dock and whose large front porch hangs directly over the celadon waters of the Sea of Abaco! To the back of the cottage are the beautiful White Sound beaches and the Atlantic Ocean. The home will sleep 4 to 6 people very comfortably and has recently been repainted, reupholstered and decorated with the island-inspired art of it's artist owners.
The large loft style master bedroom suite is upstairs and has cathedral ceilings, a king size bed, two twin beds, an office space and sliders to a small balcony overlooking the sound. There is an en suite bathroom with shower and double sinks as well as a large closet and several bureaus.
The downstairs guest room also has high ceilings, a queen size bed, sliders that open onto the front porch and dock and has an additional private entrance from the rear patio. It has a small en suite bathroom with a shower. Both bedrooms have AC and all the rooms in the house have ceiling fans and views of the Sea of Abaco.
The kitchen comes well equipped with any and all needed dishes, pots and pans for cooking and baking as the owners love to cook. There is a lovely new glass and shell back splash recently made by the owner and a combination washing machine and dryer behind the bi fold doors next to the pantry. There is a large eat at counter/island as well as a dining room table.
The delightful sunken living room also has high cathedral ceilings, sliders out to the front porch and dock and a large flat screen TV. You will find plenty of books and games for those lazy afternoons on the front porch. Wifi is also available. All linens are provided including beach towels.
Just across the road is the Abaco Inn, a favorite among locals for its happy hour, pool, restaurant and decks that face both the Sea of Abaco and the Atlantic. Sea Spray Marina with its restaurant and bar are just a short walk down the road. Our caretaker will meet you at your arranged ferry arrival time from Marsh Harbour and transport you to “Sandpiper”. Rentals of golf carts, boats, fishing charters and dive and snorkel trips are available through multiple businesses on the island. Reservations are recommend for busy times of the year.
We spent one week in this beautiful house on the water! The view was gorgeous and the location was perfect! The kitchen was well stocked and roomy. We loved the décor and the creative touches in the back splash kitchen tiles, the fireplace mantel, and the bedroom decorations! We rented a golf cart that was delivered to our door and made it fun to drive around the island. We also rented a boat that was delivered to the pier just outside the house! We went snorkeling and fishing and island cruising! The Sea Spray and the Abaco Inn were very close and had great food and drinks. The view from the bedrooms and the deck were fantastic!! We felt to close to nature and the whole island feeling. We can't wait to go back to stay at the Sandpiper!
We stayed at the Sandpiper for two weeks with our two kids (14+15) and had a great time. The house is perfectly situated on White Sound and almost across the street from the Abaco Inn. Renting a boat and golf cart was easy and provided for terrific access on both land and sea. The house is very private with two bedrooms, top floor has a king and two twins which worked out great for our kids and the ground floor has a queen bed right off the deck both with private baths. The furnishing are just right for the house and made for a very comfortable vacation. Kitchen has everything you need to cook. If you are interested in a great boating vacation for snorkeling, scuba or fishing this is a great spot. The dock is very convenient. After dinner drinks at the Abaco Inn or Sea Spray also works. Brian and his manager Jamie were very responsive and made everything easy.
This was our second trip to Sandpiper, the first being last Thanksgiving for two weeks. The cottage is perfect for it's location, comfortable, big enough to have privacy and over the water with swimming and fishing right off the dock. The owner is an artist and her work captures the island personalities and spirit! White Sound is quieter than HopeTown, close to Tahiti Becah, the best grocery store on the island, and Miss Mckay's for delcious Bahamian takeout. We rented paddleboards at the Abaco Inn, and biked and took the golf cart all over the island. The kitchen is adequate for cooking and the grill was great for fish. Jamie, the manager, is very attentive and helpful. A Wonderful Spot!
In my opionin the only place to stay on Elbow Cay!! We have been going there for two years now, hoping to make it three next spring. Perfect place to just relax and fish but still close enough to venture out. I can't imagine a cold Michigan winter without the hopes of coming back to Sandpiper and all the amazing people we have met down there!!
We arrived at Hopetown at dusk, tired after a very long day of traveling, and were greeted by our friendly, smiling caretaker Jamie. He led the way to the cottage and immediately we realized that the house was exactly as perfect as portrayed in the pictures and descriptions in Home Away. It is lovely! Jamie was wonderful, not only that first evening, but whenever we needed guidance or help during the 6 weeks we were there; he was always available and helpful. The house is exactly what a beach cottage should be. The porch is the perfect place to watch the boat activities, the birds, the sea life, and also enjoy the view. The kitchen has everything one would need to cook a gourmet meal - and we did quite a bit of cooking! The location of the house is perfect. Close to The Abaco Inn - a favorite watering hole; the marina down the road, and a quick cart drive to town. We rented a boat and a golf cart for the time we were there and it was a great way to get around. Brian, the owner, is amazing! He answered all our questions promptly and has been very helpful throughout our planning stages. Thanks to both Brian and Jamie for making our stay unforgettable. To show how much we loved it, we've already reserved for the coming year!!
My husband and I were extremely happy with this adorable, quaint yet fully functional cottage. Sandpiper had everything we needed to make our holiday fabulous. It was very comfortable and the location was perfect - close enough to groceries, town and restaurants, yet off of the beaten path.
The road to get to the cottage was surprisingly decent. In 2014, We stayed at GTC with some friends and the roads or rather paths on the North end of the island are extremely rough so we weren't expecting the infrastructure on Elbow Cay to be as good as it was.
We rented a 23' 6" boat for the week and the deep water dock was wonderful and very convenient. The dock is well maintained and the location in the cove is very calm and lovely. The back porch was a favorite place of ours to hang out and relax after a full day on the water. We made friends with a red spotted black bird and the lovely fish that called this porch and dock their home. No doubt the tortillas we fed them had something to do with them being so friendly.
We are already having turquoise water and white sand beach withdrawals and dreaming about our next trip. Thank you Brian and Donna for sharing your adorable and very quaint home with us. Wish it were ours!!
