About the property

Delightful 2/2 With Front Porch Hanging Over The Waters Of The Sea Of Abac

“Sandpiper” is a charming artist owned two-storey, 2/2 cottage with it's own deep water dock and whose large front porch hangs directly over the celadon waters of the Sea of Abaco! To the back of the cottage are the beautiful White Sound beaches and the Atlantic Ocean. The home will sleep 4 to 6 people very comfortably and has recently been repainted, reupholstered and decorated with the island-inspired art of it's artist owners.

The large loft style master bedroom suite is upstairs and has cathedral ceilings, a king size bed, two twin beds, an office space and sliders to a small balcony overlooking the sound. There is an en suite bathroom with shower and double sinks as well as a large closet and several bureaus.

The downstairs guest room also has high ceilings, a queen size bed, sliders that open onto the front porch and dock and has an additional private entrance from the rear patio. It has a small en suite bathroom with a shower. Both bedrooms have AC and all the rooms in the house have ceiling fans and views of the Sea of Abaco.

The kitchen comes well equipped with any and all needed dishes, pots and pans for cooking and baking as the owners love to cook. There is a lovely new glass and shell back splash recently made by the owner and a combination washing machine and dryer behind the bi fold doors next to the pantry. There is a large eat at counter/island as well as a dining room table.

The delightful sunken living room also has high cathedral ceilings, sliders out to the front porch and dock and a large flat screen TV. You will find plenty of books and games for those lazy afternoons on the front porch. Wifi is also available. All linens are provided including beach towels.

Just across the road is the Abaco Inn, a favorite among locals for its happy hour, pool, restaurant and decks that face both the Sea of Abaco and the Atlantic. Sea Spray Marina with its restaurant and bar are just a short walk down the road. Our caretaker will meet you at your arranged ferry arrival time from Marsh Harbour and transport you to “Sandpiper”. Rentals of golf carts, boats, fishing charters and dive and snorkel trips are available through multiple businesses on the island. Reservations are recommend for busy times of the year.

Pretty much perfect. I'd go 6 stars if I could

  • 5 of 5

We flew ourselves into Marsh Harbor Dec 27 w/ 2 kids and 125 pounds of supplies for the 10 days we were at Sandpiper (our first time to Abacos). Jamie met us at the ferry dock (next time I'll have Island Marine pick us up at the Calcutta dock (extra $40, but well worth it to save the ferry hassle and cost). We rented a 20' Albury for our time there, roughly $100/day. Great boat, and nice folks. They also rent snorkel gear and are a one-stop shop for Abacos knowledge. Jeff and Jennie are the owners, not just of Island Marine, but also Parrot Cay. Jeff's Dad bought it from the Queen of England in the late 50's- buy his book, it's at the counter and a good read.

Sandpiper is perfect for a family. There is a king bed and 2 singles in the upper bedroom, and a queen in the lower. Firm, high quality mattresses in all, and good clean sheets. The house was spotless when we arrived, and the ice cube bucket was full to the brim as well (a nice touch). The kitchen has plenty of pots and pans and silverware. If you're a fancy gourmet, you may want to bring a chefs knife. We found the cutlery just fine though. The cutting boards are in the pantry btw!

We also rented a golf cart from H&N Carts- $40/day I think. Perfectly serviceable.

As far as the important stuff that makes or breaks a rental vacation property, Sandpiper is PERFECT in my opinion. Plenty of hot water, near-new washer and dryer, correctly operating stove (gas btw) and oven, gas grill w/ full propane tank, private dock, solid WIFI (not enough for streaming Netflix, but...shut off your damn devices, you're on vacation), landline with a number for emergency calls inbound, Jamie is responsive and helpful, lots of beach towels, and THE GREATEST VIEW EVER (especially at the price). Abaco Inn is a 3 minute walk away, with free coffee every morning at 7am (and a great group of locals to kibbutz with), and excellent food and booze all day. White Sound is literally under the deck, and the Atlantic (north side of Abaco Inn is best spot) is 200 yards away.

There's a grocery store 1/2 mile away by golf cart, prices 30% higher than Marsh Harbor, 60% higher than mainland USA, but good selection. The pizza place next door is EXCELLENT. Liquor store about the same distance, but we went into town for beer and booze- the liquor store next to Froggies was a good source of local knowledge. Beer is about $1.50 each, so not too bad. Kalik is the Bahamian beer. I find it to be an acquired taste.

VERY Highly recommended!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit to Hopetown and our first stay at Sandpiper. She did not disappoint! The layout of the house is great for each couple to have some privacy, yet plenty of space to gather for evening drinks and meals. Although I'll have to confess, we didn't cook much as we really enjoy the restaurants downtown and enjoyed pizza at Sea Spray. We rented a golf cart for the week and I strongly suggest doing that. The grocery store just around the corner is great and has all you would need. In the past we've shopped in Marsh Harbour at Maxwells before boarding the ferry. We didn't miss a thing by skipping that step. Beds were quite comfortable and never did we turn on the air conditioner as the ceiling fans are well placed and plenty of windows. It was nice not having to pack beach towels as plenty were provided. I agree with another review that it would be nice to have a couple of more chairs on the deck. Two were great, we fished one out of the water that was cracked but you could still use it and the chaise was cracked so you got a little pinch when you used it! The little beach was perfect to launch my paddle board and just across the street the Atlantic! I strongly suggest getting to Tahiti Beach at low tide as it provides a wealth of sea life. We rented a 23 foot Albury for a day and hit Petes, the mooring on the reef for some snorkeling, Cracker P's, and of course the lighthouse. Seahorse is very easy to deal with and you can't beat the Albury. As everyone has said Jamie was fantastic. He was there to pick us up and take us to the house and even checked in with us to see if we needed help on departure day. Everything in the house worked great, it was clean, plenty of supplies to get us started and the location is simply lovely! We even enjoyed visiting with the neighbor. Thank you Brian and Sandpiper for a great week. We hope to see you for a longer stay next winter.

Perfect location, wonderful cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We recently rented Sandpiper over Christmas break--what a great spot! We traveled with 2 teen boys--both are tall so having them share the downstairs queen wasn't an option. One immediately snagged that room (has it's own tiny bath/shower) and the other one slept upstairs in the master suite that is huge. A King bed and two twins, plus a large bath worked out just fine. The kitchen is really well stocked--there was not one thing we needed that wasn't available. The location of Sandpiper is perfect...on the sound with spectacular views, private dock and virtually across the street from the Abaco Inn. I went to the Abaco Inn every morning while the family was still sleeping and sat by their amazing beach side pool. Then around 11, my husband would join me for one of the best Bloody Mary's! Abaco Inn is also a great bar/restaurant so definitely enjoy it. The cottage is also very close to SeaSpray Marina--fun outdoor bar, recently renovated indoor restaurant, and you can also use the pool there (note: they are doing construction right by the pool as they are rebuilding their Tiki bar) We rented a 21' Whaler from Island Marine--perfect sized boat and the folks at Island Marine are very helpful--this is a must so you can visit neighboring islands and various reefs. We rented a golf cart too, although in hindsight we could have skipped it. You can take the boat just about anywhere during daylight and tie up at the various docks; at night we cooked dinner at home and, after being outside all day pretty much just chilled on the porch or at the neighboring establishments. There could be more porch furniture (only 2 adirondack chairs, 1 plastic chair-semi cracked and a broken chaise that really couldn't be used), and more comfortable furniture for for lounging on the porch as it sits directly over the water and is so fantastic; we would see manta rays and fish all the time. Would definitely rent Sandpiper again and highly recommend it to others. If you have any logistics questions (food, travel etc) I would be happy to answer. Elbow Cay is a great getaway. Thanks Sandpiper!!

Warm, welcoming and charming...A great week!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks so much to Sandpiper for a memorable, wonderful week on Elbow Cay. This home was perfect for the four of us, with great separation/privacy for the bedroom areas, both of which have stunning views, and comfortable common areas to get together and relax. The kitchen was large and very well set up, great for us as we like to cook and eat in. Having lived on a sailboat years ago, perhaps I most appreciated the "feel" of the house...it was like being on a boat again to have the clear water under the deck. You could sit and gaze off on that deck forever and it would still be too short a time. Having the private dock right there to keep our Albury 21 (from Seahorse) was just perfect, as it was ready for us to just hop in and head off to another adventure, perhaps at Nathan's Bay, Mermaid Reef, Man O War Cay, or Tilloo Banks. Island Cart dropped and picked up our golf cart right from the house. The location between the Sea Spray, where we had a great dinner and used their pool, and the Abaco Inn, is just perfect to have access to resort facilities, if you want them. As in our last 2 visits, we found the people of Elbow Cay warm and welcoming. After 3 trips there it feels like coming home. Thank you so much!

Happy Island Visitors!

  • 5 of 5

We spent one week in this beautiful house on the water! The view was gorgeous and the location was perfect! The kitchen was well stocked and roomy. We loved the décor and the creative touches in the back splash kitchen tiles, the fireplace mantel, and the bedroom decorations! We rented a golf cart that was delivered to our door and made it fun to drive around the island. We also rented a boat that was delivered to the pier just outside the house! We went snorkeling and fishing and island cruising! The Sea Spray and the Abaco Inn were very close and had great food and drinks. The view from the bedrooms and the deck were fantastic!! We felt to close to nature and the whole island feeling. We can't wait to go back to stay at the Sandpiper!
