About Dave

My wife and I purchased this waterfront condo in 2012 after spending several winters renting a unit in this same complex. We found the amenities perfect for our winter retirement needs. We own other rental units and have been in the rental real estate business for over 20 years. We are retired teachers and currently reside in Cherry Hill, NJ just outside of Philadelphia, PA.

Dave purchased this condo in 2012

Why Dave chose Florida Central Gulf Coast

This condo offers a beautiful waterfront view overlooking a causeway connecting the Little harbor Marina to Tampa Bay. Beyond the causeway is a bird and nature preserve. Walk across the street, sit at the pool and watch the sunset over St. Petersburg. The condo is at the end of a small peninsula that is a dead end street with no thru traffic.

What makes this condo unique

We became interested in bird watching after seeing many species landing on the boat dock below our balcony. We also have seen families of manatee and groups of 2 or 3 dolphin searching for food in the causeway.

A Place Where Memories Are Made

  • 5 of 5

We recently ended a three month stay at this condo in Ruskin. This was our fourth consecutive year to reside in this unit during the late winter and early spring, and we have thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We would have returned had we not been facing ongoing health issues.

With two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, the condominium is ideally suited for couples who occasionally entertain overnight guests. It is well supplied with linens, towels, cooking utensils, and other essential items. The unit has flat screen TVs and high speed internet access, as well as books, games, and toys for diverse leisure opportunities. Its verandah overlooks a back channel that opens onto Tampa Bay, a route for boats to pass back and forth from one of the area’s three marinas. Dolphins, manatees, rays, and fish of different types frequent this waterway, and often put on a show. In addition, a wide variety of birds - gulls, pelicans, ospreys, egrets and many others - inhabit the mangrove stand on the east side of the water. Sunrises and moonrises are spectacular from the verandah as well, and morning coffee in this venue was one of our highlights.

The complex's swimming pool across the street is gated and a code is required to both enter and exit the pool grounds to assure that only authorized people can use it. It is simply but tastefully landscaped, and is heated and clean, with chairs, picnic tables, and a charcoal grill for the owners and guests. A code-protected gate on the bayside allows access to a seawall, and a large, well-kept lawn. From these places, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, St. Petersburg, passing ships, and amazing sunsets can be seen.

Two good restaurants and a public beach are an easy walk (five minutes or less) from the unit. Fishing and other recreational activities are also close by. The owners have compiled contact information for may of these and have left the information in the condo. The area is quiet and secure, with friendly, welcoming neighbors in the building. The owners went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They are easy to work with and respond promptly to any question. The few concerns we encountered were dealt with completely and to our satisfaction.

This unit is the complete package for a memorable Florida vacation experience.

Owner's Response: Lou and Patsy are the type of people that an owner can only hope they are lucky enough to have stay with them as VRBO guests. They treated our property as if it were their own. Not just great guests but great people! We would rent to them again in the future with no hesitation! Dave and Lorraine

Indiana Snowbird

Our two months in this location were very enjoyable, and we hated to leave! The unit was all it was advertised to be and more. It was very clean and is obviously well kept. In addition to the property being quiet, restful and relaxing, we found the neighbors to be friendly and helpful. While the pool is located across the street, its location provides spectacular views of St. Petersburg, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, and a very large part of Tampa Bay. Sunsets from this location we found breathtaking!

Sunrises from the verandah of the unit are equally impressive, and provide a positive start to the day. All manner of birds and sea critters entertain daily, often hourly. We had pelicans diving for baitfish beside the seawall, and manatees and dolphins regularly swim past the unit. The dolphins, in particular, put on a Seaworld type show, jumping completely out of the water. We've even seen them tossing a fish back and forth thru the air! In addition, mullet and other fish can also be seen making leaps into the air. Ospreys, roseatte spoonbills, pelicans, ibis, herons, cranes, mockingbirds, cormorants, ducks, and, of course, gulls are among the bird species we saw while sitting on the verandah.

We kept our boat in one of the nearby marinas (there are three close by, two within walking distance), and caught seatrout, Spanish mackerel, pompano, redfish, mangrove snapper, lady fish, and sharks while there. Because we had our own boat, we did not charter a fishing trip, but there are a number of guides located nearby who can provide successful angling opportunities, again just a short walk away.

All kinds of entertainment opportunities exist. Two really good restaurants are located two blocks away - Hooks and Sunset Grille. We recommend both. The fish at Hooks is excellent! Beanies on highway 41 has a really good reuben, and Ybor Grille on East Shell Point Road provides a great Cuban Sandwich. We found St. Vito's pizza the best around, but get it carry-out. Service dining in is very slow. Tampa Downs race track and Hardrock Seminole Casino are less than an hour away for those who like to wager. We drove out to Fort DeSoto for an afternoon, and found it to be very interesting. With Orlando being about an hour and a half away, and the east coast only two and a half hours, all kinds of other opportunities open up.

We have to say that the owners are easy to work with, and are very accommodating. We look forward to return visits - in fact, can't wait!

What a pleasant place to spend some down time.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed this condo for the month of January 2014. The owners are very pleasant and accommodating. We have rented many condos in this area, but this is the cleanest and best maintained of all of them. The owners had the condo stocked far more than any others we have been in. There was not a thing we needed because they had everything imaginable in the condo, including a crock pot, new pots and pans, skillets of all sizes, blender, mixer, etc. We would like to rent this condo again and we certainly would recommend it to all. The pictures above accurately describe the condo. This area is close to many activities or you could just sit on the deck and watch the birds and the many boats that go by. You cannot go wrong in renting this condo.
