Puntarenas Estate Rental Photos and Description

5 Bed, 3.5 Bath, Ocean View, Infinity Pool, 2 Master Suits, Close To All

Located 20 minutes south of the Quepos airport in the exclusive Hills of Portalon Estates, Vista Del Fuego offers breathtaking views that are among the finest available anywhere in the world. At an elevation of 500m (1,500 ft.), there is a constant breeze that keeps the air fresh and the temperature pleasant. Views of Manuel Antonio Park in the North and Punta Dominical in the South encompass a sweeping 45 km. vista of rivers, tropical rainforest, palm trees and several of Costa Rica's premier beaches. Views from the estate include a dramatic panorama of the Savegre River. In the distance it is possible to see beaches at Parrita, the Nicoya Peninsula, the Osa Peninsula and even Caño Island. Visitors to the 4.9 hectare (12.1 acre) estate can spend days simply relaxing by the pool, drinking Costa Rica's finest coffee and watching spectacular sunsets. Once you feel refreshed, adventure waits around every bend. Try an exhilarating zip line tour at nearby Hacienda Baru or ride horses through primary rainforest, savanna and mile upon mile of empty beaches. The world class beaches of Playa Matapalo are only a few quick kilometers down the road. Photos of the house and grounds can only begin to give you a glimpse of the wonders that await you here. The villa comfortably sleeps 10 people in five rooms. Completed in November, 2007 by Patrick Heinen of HEG Engineering, Costa Rica's premier home builder, Vista Del Fuego provides 300m (3,300 ft) of luxurious living on three levels and an oasis-style swimming pool. Spectacular artwork, created especially for Vista Del Fuego by Paul and Susanne Leasure after a visit to this beautiful country, adorns the walls.

4 wheel drive is an absolute must for any Costa Rica adventures. We have a very steep 200 meter approach on the dirt public road leading to our home that can be very intimidating to drivers with little off road experience. Most roads in the southern zone of Costa Rica are not paved, and conditions can change with the weather, so a 4 x 4 is the only way to ensure smooth travels. Experienced local taxi drivers and small shuttle buses (12 passengers) have no problems reaching our property. So please rent a 4 x 4, or hire a professional driver!

About Sharon Haigh

Hola, Costa Rica lovers!

My name is Jesse Castro, I live in Boulder Colorado with my wife Ann and our 11 year old daughter Lennon. Originally from La Jolla, Ca and growing up in the ocean, Colorado after 8 years comes up a bit short on tropical sunsets! Pictured above is me and my mother Sharon who followed us to Colorado to be near her only granddaughter. Sharon is a true California girl and jumped at the chance to partner with her son on a vacation home in one of our favorite spots in the world.

Sharon is an executive with a fortune 500 company, specializing in corporate education, while my wife and I have been in the high end salon business for many years. Her a top hairstylist and me well... serial entrepreneur, adventurer, and 'Chief Bottle Washer'. We currently own a successful salon in Boulder Colorado.

Being able to experience the contrast between the Rocky Mountains and the amazing South Pacific region of Costa Rica has made us feel blessed beyond belief. It is our absolute pleasure to share our beautiful 3 home estate with friends and family in this magical region of the world. We invite you to feel welcome in our little slice of paradise!

Sharon Haigh purchased this estate in 2012

Why Sharon Haigh chose Puntarenas

This property has the perfect combination of privacy, security, and accessibility to the regions best beaches and attractions of the Pacific region. Perched on a high lot (1500') above the Pacific Ocean, the breezes and sunset views combine into tropical nirvana. Ten degrees (F) cooler than the beach and yet just a few kilometers away with an eagle eye view of the breaking surf. 'The Hills of Portalon' is a private 350 acre Eco-development, with just 27 home sites and more than 150 acres dedicated to rainforest protect.

What makes this estate unique

Vista Del Fuego is positioned perfectly to act as a private and secluded home base to countless adventures in the 'Southern Zone' of Costa Rica. The estate is located just 20 minutes south of Manuel Antonio and 15 minutes north of Dominical. It sits on a west facing hillside inside a secure gated property and abuts primary rainforest. The property has a seasonal stream running through the center adding to the ambiance.

Come enjoy this magical property! Pura Vida!

We would love to return to this paradise with our young daughter next time...We did and saw more than I can write here. Costa Rica is a beautiful country & the 'Ticos' are warm and friendly. Amazing Home, wish we could stay longer

  • 5 of 5

We were just wowed with this fantastic place from the moment we walked in. The place was clean and beautiful. There was plenty of room for 9 of us. The laundry was a big plus and the kitchen had everything we needed for meal preparation. There were two separate air conditioning units, and one was malfunctioning the first night but I sent an email to Marlon and he had someone there making repairs early the next morning. The pool was beautiful and refreshing with incredible views. The location couldn't be beat, secluded and private. It was a little challenging to get to. We couldn't find a van that fit 9 and had 4-wheel drive, but since we were pretty loaded down we were able to make the climb. Smaller, 2-wheel drive cars might find it difficult to get to the house. The house was well stocked with movies and music and books. None of us wanted to leave.

Owner's Response: We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay. We try our best to make sure our guests are aware of the need for a 4X4 but we have had many guests choose the two wheel alternative. It is not easy to make it up the hill but it is possible. We love our home is Costa Rica and are happy that you loved it too. Thank you so much for choosing Vista del Fuego. Sharon

Unbelievable Views

  • 5 of 5

This home fits perfectly with a stay in Costa Rica. Set high enough in the hills to get a cooler temperature, this home allowed us the most the most amazing views imaginable without having to share them with anyone (other than the occasional monkey and butterfly). It was well equipped with all the modern amenities, and the WiFi worked great.

This home was situated perfectly between Quepos and Dominical, with little food stores and restaraunts nearby. The drive up to the house is fun, and 4wd is recommended.

The pool was amazing to relax in during sunset after long fun days exploring. The only bummer for us is that this home is already booked for our next planned trip!

Review of the House

  • 4 of 5

We are a family of 10 ranging in age from 1 to 68 (parents, children and grand children). The grounds were excellent thanks to the work of David.

The house was quite nice, but please note the known and reported issues below.

Marlon was always available for us and as foreigners in a land never visited, he assisted greatly and he is very much appreciated. His use of the English language is superb.

We did have some unexpected issues however.

1. ANTS were everywhere. We should have expected this but not to the level that we encountered.

2. The refrigerator needed to be replaced. It would not keep our food cool and Marlon was able to get a replacement soon after the 2nd call. Thanks Marlon for your help. A video of the ants in the refer on 6 July was given to Marlon for his use.

3. It rained very hard on 6 July, so hard that water was leaking heavily beneath the wardrobe in the 2nd story, front bedroom. Marlon was notified of this upon our checkout.

4. A crack was observed in the master bathroom bathtub presumably causing the "squishiness" in the tub when standing. Marlon was given the info related to this and the potential effect of the crack.

5. At least one broken roof tile (hole in the roof!) in the vicinity of the garage. Marlon was shown this as well.

The only reason these things are mentioned is to alert the ownership of issues that she may be unaware of. I would certainly want to know this if I were in her shoes.

We'd recommend this to a friend, BUT with qualifications. We were extremely pleased with the locale, the notation to rent a 4x4 and "things-to-do" list that was provided.

Owner's Response: Tom and Diana, Thank you for the review and your list of items that need attention. We depend on our Manager to make sure the property is in good working order and have reviewed all the items you had on your list with Marlon. A new refrigerator was installed this week, he is getting a quote for the roof and master bath repair and will work with David to make sure the Ants are at bay. Although this is a third world country we are constantly repairing the property to make sure our guests are comfortable. Again thank you for letting us know about the issues. They will all be resolved within the next few weeks. Sharon

Great house with a great view

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week with our daughter and her family. We were off to a different adventure every day. Each was within a half an hour from the house. The caretaker helped us reserve outings in advance, and the owner was extremely helpful in suggesting beaches, restaurants and things to do. When we had minor problems the caretaker responded immediately. We would definitely stay there again. Do rent a 4x4 for the access road.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. In Costa Rica 4X4's are readily available and come in handy for many adventures. The access to the house results in unparalleled vistas.

Awesome view!

  • 5 of 5

Our party of 12 loved the house! The home is beautiful and the pool is wonderful! Some of us went fishing out of Quepos and caught 2 sailfish! We saw huge blue butterflies around the home. But you do absolutely need a 4x4 to get up and down the mountain!
