Beautiful Studio

  • 5 of 5

Very beautiful and cozy studio with all that you need in walking distance. The studio was very clean and well maintained. I highly recommend staying here when visiting Oakland or San Francisco.

Quiet spot, great location

  • 5 of 5

The Garden Cottage is a great alternative to a hotel room stay. I had to make a work trip to downtown Oakland and the prices for decent hotel rooms near downtown were crazy (big convention that week). The cottage was quiet, comfortable, and clean. There are lots of good shops and restaurants just a block away (Grand Lake district), and downtown is accessible by foot (my mode of choice...25 minute walk along the north side of Lake Merritt), bike share (station a block away), or bus. Skip the rental car!

Weekend in Oakland

  • 5 of 5

Great location

Very clean

Thoughtful amenities and personal touches

Nice bed

Met our needs perfectly .

Only downside was size and some interior and exterior noise. Positives far outweighed any issues.

Great private cottage with a modern feel and excellent location at a fair price.

  • 5 of 5

This is a great secure & private cottage with a modern feel at a fair price. It is perfect for two people with everything you need. The cottage is compact but well thought out. There's plenty of light. (no stove but we didn't need one) The bed is a platform style bed with a futon mattress so it's very firm. There is a shared backyard space although no one else from the main house used it while we were there. (The owner supplied coffee for the drip coffee maker as well as a nice bottle of red wine ) There is no parking in front but you can pull into the driveway to drop off your stuff and then park on a side street. The location is fantastic. There is a bank, a Starbucks and a Trader Joes just steps from your door. Lake Merritt is a short walking distance away and a beautiful place to exercise or stroll. (It's just over 3 miles around the lake) This is a very convenient place to stay that's close to 580 in a cool part of Oakland with lots of shops and places to eat. We would gladly stay here again when visiting Oakland in the future.

Great Find!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was spotless, with a comfortable bed and a great location near interesting stores, restaurants, and Lake Merritt. I travel to the East Bay for work quite frequently and will definitely plan on staying here again! (Not only was it a nice place to stay, I made a mistake in my reservation date and the owners were more than understanding when they didn't really have to be. . .)

Our Stay

  • 4 of 5

The garage converted to living quarters worked well for us, while we visted family in Oakland.

A few things that I'd like to mention for future travelers.

1st There is not a stove to cook on. Only a micro wave. I was thinking we might be able to cook breckfast at the VRBO but ended up eating out.

2nd The bed is very hard!

The location is great for eating out. Lots of resturants. Lake Merritt has a wonderful walk aroung the lake. A must do if you enjoy walking.
