About Bruce Blew
Hello! My name is Bruce. Welcome to New Orleans. I am a retired Chemical Engineer, who presently owns & operates The Junque Shop Antique Store in the Faugborg Marigny, at the base of world famous Frenchmen Street. I personally renovated my home in 2005-2006.
Bruce Blew purchased this House in 2005
Why Bruce Blew chose Algiers Point
This is a Raised 'Shotgun' Double built in 1929, completely renovated in 2005-2006. It is located in historic Algiers Point, the second oldest settlement in New Orleans. It was built by a lumber yard owner. The walls are 6 inches thick & reinforced diagonally. The 2006 renovation opened the home to one living area upstairs.
What makes this House unique
My home is an economical alternative to the French Quarter, and yet is just a four block walk or drive to the Algiers/Canal Street Car/Passenger Ferry. Historic Algiers Point is a quiet alternative to the fast French Quarter pace, and yet close enough to enjoy the full benefits of the French Quarter and all of New Orleans.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
What a wonderful trip!
We enjoyed our time so much! The house was even nicer than we expected. The home owner was attentive, but not intrusive. He only messaged to check when we would arrive and when we would leave. Did I say the house was beautiful??? It was so pretty and clean and comfortable! The neighborhood was was nice and the neighbors were friendly. Would do this trip again!!!
Great home in a great location
After visiting New Orleans about six or seven times and staying in the French Quarter with no car, my wife and I decided to stay across the river in Algiers, rent a car, and explore the area more widely. This place was perfect for that.
Not only did it have a (tiny) driveway for off street parking but it was easy to get in and out of the neighborhood for day trips. The Canal Street Ferry terminal is a few blocks away...easy walk. There is a nice coffee shop around the corner.
We had friends and family come visit for a few days at a time and they all loved it.
We would have given it five stars but the landlord tends to be kind of unmotivated about taking care of some maintenance items...like replacing the front porch light for safety. But these are small items and we enjoyed our stay very much.
Lovely place to stay, very accommodating for our travels. Great location with an easy walk to the ferry or a quick Uber ride.
Thank you so much. Please come back.
Beautiful house in a nice neighborhood
We totally enjoyed our stay at Bruce’s house. There were four of us and having three bedrooms and three bathrooms made it comfortable and convenient. The house was clean with very nice furniture and a large updated kitchen. The beds were very comfortable. The house is also well equipped with essentials - washer and dryer, dishwasher, iron, blow dryer, lots of towels, etc. We really enjoyed the nice residential neighborhood, with cafes and bars nearby. There’s also a market not far away and a cute park for little kids close by. The walk to the ferry was easy and enjoyable and just a few blocks. (Be sure to have dollar bills.) New Orleans is great but returning to this nice, quiet, roomy house at night was a welcomed break from the noise and action across the river. We will definitely stay here again when we return to The Big Easy.
Thank you so much. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again. Bruce
Needs a new cleaning staff
The location is fantastic. Within walking distance of the ferry which drops you right in the middle of everything you come to New Orleans for. My only issue was the bed linens hadn’t been changed. One of the comforters had dried blood on it. We contacted the owner but didn’t get a response.
Wow. A whole stay rated 2 stars. No problem. Makes my 100 plus 5 star reviews more real. Yes they complained about a small blood stain on one comforter, but said not to worry about it! The comforter was replaced by a new one the day they left.
We loved our house, it's So beautiful!
This home was perfect for our party of 6. The beds were very comfy, the rooms were spacious, the cupboards were stocked with everything we needed.
We especially enjoyed how quiet the neighborhood was and walk from the ferry, we were very close & there was a nice restaurant on the way along with a couple of coffee shops. Algiers Point had everything. We really loved our rental and would stay here again!
My home is a four (4) block walk or drive to the Algier's Point/Canal Street Ferry. A five minute ferry ride to The base of the French Quarter leaves you by Harrah's Casino, Riverwalk Mall, Canal Mall & Cinema, and a short walk to all of the French Quarter.
