What makes this House unique
The remote location, the serenity of the surroundings, the natural beauty of the 3 acre property, the sunsets - the list goes on and on.

getting there and finding it was tough, but once there we enjoyed it. However, limited possibilities for hiking/exploring. Everything fenced in
Had stayed 3 nights and was amazed at the scenic drive through the mountains to even get there. The house is beautiful, clean and spacious with a view that is mesmerizing. A two story house where you have everything you need.
Keep n mind that it can be 1-1.5 hours away from San Jose/ Alajuela depending of traffic but it is well worth it. Highly recommended.
Lovely spacious place but left one day earlier due to noisy neighbor
We enjoyed our 5 days (out of 6) at the house. Our kids were so happy that we got such a nice place. It is big and clean, well-laid out with the bedrooms upstairs and ample room to relax downstairs during the day. The kitchen is spacious as well and everything you need for basic cooking is provided, although the pans/pots were scratched up badly. The area is very pretty but far away from most attractions. Great for relaxing! The first 2 days we didn't have water upstairs, but it was resolved by hard-working Alejandro and his friend by the evening of the 2nd night. (We got to meet his entire lovely family due to the water issue.)
However, the bigger problem proved to be a neighbor who played his music before 6am, waking all of us up a couple of days--we didn't mind too much because by then it's bright out. But it was Friday night that changed everything. The music started again before 8pm and did not stop until 2:22am. I know because I was on my tablet, unable to sleep. I knew we would get sick if we spent another night like that so we left the next morning with a lot of regret.
I'm told this was not a normal occurrence and honestly I couldn't tell where it was coming from. The acoustics of the area were excellent, unfortunately for us. The nearby town of Puriscal has several big grocery stores you can go to, and the farmer's market was quaint. The people at Soda Donde Ana were sweet and hospitable. One thing for sure, the stars are exceptionally bright in the middle of the night. The Big Dipper was the brightest I had ever seen in my life!
clean, well maintained, a real paradise.
A totally lovely place, the rolling mist, the birds singing, the two small brooks... dreamy. Silvia and Minor were very helpful, and their kids a total delight. The house is clean and well maintained, the kitchen got everything you may need, the windows are a dream to contemplate the mountains, and some birds came to eat bananas -toucans mainly. We had trouble with the downstairs toilet but Minor fixed the problem promptly. Our kids enjoyed the stay -despite the slow Internet and the pool being empty. I would recommend this place, although the roads are good I don't know during the rainy time. There is a most beautiful farm-restaurant with tilapias down by Ojo de Agua, ask the caretaker, it is worth a visit!
A perfect hideaway; an amazing discovery!
This hideaway was a wonderful discovery. Nestled in the jungle down at the bottom of a steep paved driveway, it is very secluded and private. Since Geoff gave us the coordinates, we had no trouble finding it with our GPS. Alejandro, who supervises the property, was nearby and attentive to our needs and even though he speaks little English (and us little Spanish) we had great fun (and laughs) with him by using Google-Translate to communicate.
The rooms are huge with comfortable beds and a quality sofa in the living room, so we were always comfortable. There's a large dining room table but we always ate outside on the deck.
The kitchen is very well equipped although it, like most Costa Rican properties, does not have a dishwasher. There is a clothes washer and dryer which we were welcome to use.
The views out the back on the spacious deck are spectacular and we were able to attract a wide variety of birds by putting out some bananas. Another steep paved path down the back valley ends in a circular path around the property (between two creeks) that returns to the front driveway. Fun to explore but be careful of the steep slopes!
The internet was good by Costa Rican standards (about 3 Mb/s download). As the VRBO listing says, there is a television but it is not connected to anything! No cable-TV or antenna; just an unattached HDMI cable -- I suggest you bring your own AppleTV or equivalent if you want to watch Netflix or whatever with the internet; I was disappointed not being able to keep up with the nightly news.
We only spent a week here but will definitely return in the future for a longer stay. This is a hidden gem and we were sad to have to leave.
Really very nice. Perfect peace.
We stayed in May 2017 and had a great time. The house is very quiet, and the views are amazing. We wanted to get away from it all and this place couldn't have been better for that. I would definitely stay again. I did take one star off because we had very little in the way of water pressure upstairs while we were there, meaning barely enough to brush our teeth (but just enough for a hot shower - and save water at the same time lol). However, if you are considering renting this place, don't be put off by that, the problem was fixed just as we were leaving. I checked: the shower was now powerful and the flow out of the taps was normal. All in all, this house was a great place to relax, especially at the very low price - you get a lot of house for the money.
The views from this house are spectacular. Although there are several neighbours around, the house is far enough from the road to offer privacy and seclusion. The people in the small town of Barbacoas are absolutely lovely. Arturo, the owner of the small grocery store in town, is a friend and speaks a little bit of English and he goes out of his way to make you feel welcome!
