THE VILLAGE : time seems to have stood still in the medieval village of Arquà Petrarca.
This charming hamlet, nestled in the heart of the Euganean Hills Natural Park, is a proud member of “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy” an organization dedicated to promoting 'the great heritage of History, Art, Culture, Environment and Traditions found in small Italian villages' that are unique and offer a special experience.
The S.S. Trinità Oratory; the Loggia dei Vicari; the Poet's museum/house; the Fountain with the old washing trough and the charming palaces that face the narrow streets bear fascinating witness to the past fortunes of Arquà Petrarca.
Surrounding Arquà Petrarca visitors will find the world renown Terme Euganee Spas; the impressive historical garden of Valsanzibio; 4 golf courses; the small medieval towns of Monselice, Este e Montagnana; Praglia e Carceri Abbeys; and several wonderful Venetian Villas.
I have come far, from an island of silver and greens
To a country, by its people much adored, where colours
Of blue and gold abound; where swifts and swallows soar
And where the terracotta tiles on rustic buildings gleam.
And of that land, there rises from a plain in the Veneto
An ancient volcanic archipelago, amidst an agrarian sea.
Wild woods worship the sun with cultured vines and leaves;
From nature’s harsh elements are nurtured olive groves.
This mysterious, shrouded world wields its magic spell
And draws to itself in thermal springs, relief for aching bones.
Poets too, have found inspiration from this strange nature zone
Where those brilliant hues shine on and verses flow and tell
Of Arquá Petrarca: stone houses radiate a golden solar glow,
Narrow and steep cobbled alleys creep up the valley walls.
Above autumnal mists, scenes mimic a witch’s cauldron!
But soon blue wins through for the kindly villagers below.
Forasmuch as I have been enchanted by the Euganean Hills
One must turn again home to things familiar and known,
But the seeds of this geographical marvel have been sown.
I must return to explore once more this park and its steeples.
Highly recommend. What a beautiful village Arqua is and Arrigo is a wonderful host! We truly felt part of this enchanting little Italian village. The apartment was charming, clean and has everything you need. I wish we had more time there, hopefully we can return someday.
Our stay at Casa Zorzi was just brilliant. We took a chance at staying somewhere a bit more remote hoping to experience the traditional italian stay away from busy tourist areas and we were not dissapointed!!!!
The village of Arqua' Petrarca is just beautiful. The apartment (Iris) that we stayed in was perfect and just as shown in the pictures. Iris also has the best views of the village and vinyards as well as having everything you need for your stay.
From the minute we arrived at Casa Zorzi we were made to feel at home by Arrigo and and his lovely wife Nina. Arrigo went out of his way to ensure we made the most of our stay and in particular our 2 day trips to Venice. He was actually brilliant and his knowlegde of Venice and the surrounding areas is amazing!
Nina also runs the Osteria in the Piazza and the hospitality was superb but the food was delicious, well worth a visit!
Overall we had a fantastic week here at Casa Zorzi. It is everything that the owner Arrigo says it is and more and we can highly recommend this place as well as the location.
We will hopefull be returning next year!
The apartment and village were just lovely, and even after many visits to Italy felt we experienced something new and different. I think an earlier review said do everything Arrigo tells you .... We did and they were right! Even his tips for restaurants for our stay in Venice afterwards were just perfect . Highly recommended !
We had a great stay at Casa Zorzi in Aqua Petrarqua! Nice and comfortable appartment with garden/balcony. Good advice & interesting stories from Arrigo the owner and good food in the osteria Al Guerriero from his wife Nina. Suprising interesting surroudings to bike and hike, to drink and buy wine and fantastic to visit from here cities like Venice, Padua and Vicenza. Most suprising place I visited in years; go and experience it yourself! Gré & Marianne, The Netherlands
The Iris appt is the perfect blend of traditional old world charm, combined with all the modern day conveniences you could possibly need, spotlessly clean and very well maintained. Situated in the enchanting village of Arqua Petrarca, which is the ideal base for exploring all the marvellous sights the area has to offer such as Padua, Venice, Este, Montagnana, Verona,Lake Garda..not to mention the many spa's and vineyards on the doorstep. The village itself has a good choice of restaurants including Osteria al Guerriero which is run by the charming Nina and is not to be missed.
The "icing on the cake" just has to be Arrigo the wonderful owner, nothing was too much trouble for him, and his passion for the local area and Venice are infectious, we called him the font of all knowledge, and he has a genuine desire that all his guests get the absolute maximum from their holiday, and return home with many amazing memories, his tips and suggestions were invaluable.
I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Casa Zorzi to friends and family, and I dearly hope to be lucky enough to return again, either to Arqua,or to Venice itself, where Arrigo has another fabulous apartment for rental which is also called Casa Zorzi.
Book now, you will not be disappointed .
A delightful medieval village, helpful charming host and a great centre for visiting the area. The property was as described and we would certainly recommend it unreservedly.
