THE VILLAGE : time seems to have stood still in the medieval village of Arquà Petrarca.
This charming hamlet, nestled in the heart of the Euganean Hills Natural Park, is a proud member of “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy” an organization dedicated to promoting 'the great heritage of History, Art, Culture, Environment and Traditions found in small Italian villages' that are unique and offer a special experience.
The S.S. Trinità Oratory; the Loggia dei Vicari; the Poet's museum/house; the Fountain with the old washing trough and the charming palaces that face the narrow streets bear fascinating witness to the past fortunes of Arquà Petrarca.
Surrounding Arquà Petrarca visitors will find the world renown Terme Euganee Spas; the impressive historical garden of Valsanzibio; 4 golf courses; the small medieval towns of Monselice, Este e Montagnana; Praglia e Carceri Abbeys; and several wonderful Venetian Villas.
I have come far, from an island of silver and greens
To a country, by its people much adored, where colours
Of blue and gold abound; where swifts and swallows soar
And where the terracotta tiles on rustic buildings gleam.
And of that land, there rises from a plain in the Veneto
An ancient volcanic archipelago, amidst an agrarian sea.
Wild woods worship the sun with cultured vines and leaves;
From nature’s harsh elements are nurtured olive groves.
This mysterious, shrouded world wields its magic spell
And draws to itself in thermal springs, relief for aching bones.
Poets too, have found inspiration from this strange nature zone
Where those brilliant hues shine on and verses flow and tell
Of Arquá Petrarca: stone houses radiate a golden solar glow,
Narrow and steep cobbled alleys creep up the valley walls.
Above autumnal mists, scenes mimic a witch’s cauldron!
But soon blue wins through for the kindly villagers below.
Forasmuch as I have been enchanted by the Euganean Hills
One must turn again home to things familiar and known,
But the seeds of this geographical marvel have been sown.
I must return to explore once more this park and its steeples.
The Iris appt is the perfect blend of traditional old world charm, combined with all the modern day conveniences you could possibly need, spotlessly clean and very well maintained. Situated in the enchanting village of Arqua Petrarca, which is the ideal base for exploring all the marvellous sights the area has to offer such as Padua, Venice, Este, Montagnana, Verona,Lake Garda..not to mention the many spa's and vineyards on the doorstep. The village itself has a good choice of restaurants including Osteria al Guerriero which is run by the charming Nina and is not to be missed.
The "icing on the cake" just has to be Arrigo the wonderful owner, nothing was too much trouble for him, and his passion for the local area and Venice are infectious, we called him the font of all knowledge, and he has a genuine desire that all his guests get the absolute maximum from their holiday, and return home with many amazing memories, his tips and suggestions were invaluable.
I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Casa Zorzi to friends and family, and I dearly hope to be lucky enough to return again, either to Arqua,or to Venice itself, where Arrigo has another fabulous apartment for rental which is also called Casa Zorzi.
Book now, you will not be disappointed .
A delightful medieval village, helpful charming host and a great centre for visiting the area. The property was as described and we would certainly recommend it unreservedly.
The property and owner's support will live up to what you think be the best possible. The town is a jewel - Tuscany without the crowds. The suites have beautiful views, are simple, clean and neat. Don't miss the owner's restaurant just down the street.
We had a warm and wonderful time - and couldn't have asked for more.
My husband and I are seasoned travellers, but we rarely come across a place and host that treated us so graciously. Arrigo Zorzi gave us the warmest of welcomes and took ample time with us and other guests to explain the history of his beautiful town in the Euganean Hills and to steer us in a multitude of fascinating directions. The only challenge was tearing ourselves away from our lovely, sun-drenched apartment at Casa Zorzi, overlooking cascading wisteria and the ancient road that leads to the upper piazza. We enjoyed a delicious dinner of asparagus lasagne at the town's main osteria, managed so professionally by Arrigo's wife.
This must be one of the best times to visit the region, with flowers blooming and sprouts appearing in the many surrounding vineyards. Local wines served in all restaurants are delicious. Very warm days and pleasantly cool nights.
Their Casa is a very easy drive from Venice and it took us just over two hours to reach Trieste via the autoroute. Visits to nearby towns of Baone, Monselice, Padova and Vicenza are well worth the short drives to get there. A smaller car than our VW Passat rental would be preferable for the narrow country roads often frequented by serious bicyclists.
It will be too long before we return to Arqua Petrarca, but when we do, we will be booking an apartment at Casa Zorzi and spending time savouring the beauty of the place while enjoying conversation with our hosts. Thank you Arrigo and Nina!
What's most remarkable is how we stumbled upon this perfect place when we could have chosen so many others which would have paled in comparison.
The location is great and the apartment is lovely. The bed was surprisingly good if your are used to good quality large beds!
When entered the apartment, there was a bottle of Prosecco waiting for us :o)
Arrigo (the owner) is very helpful and a great source of local information.
After a very warm welcome from Arrigo , we were pleasantly surprised ... what a beautiful , very clean, well-maintained property in a most beautiful romantic italian village.
We absolutely recommend this home ! It is very easy to travel to Venice, Padova and Verona by train. Arrigo gave us a lot of tips for Venice ! The location was excellent . A lot of places to eat ... but "the cherry on top of the cake" was the Osteria of Arrigo's wife. Terrific food, super service ... 2 minute walking distance from the property. Just let her surprise you and enjoy a nice bottle of wine.
The best and friendly customer service in Italy... the most beautiful village, a relaxing, well maintained typical italian holliday home , with the best food in the world !
Thank you Zorzi Family !
