Cute cottage and great location.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! The cottage had everything we needed for our stay. Clean and comfortable and was walking distance to many places. The food at Blue Dog is amazing! Breakfast at Perfect Cup is great too. Loved the charm of Matlacha and plan to return.

Great little cottage - perfect location in Matlacha.

  • 4 of 5

Betty Love's cottage is a great spot. The location, situated on the canal on a quiet one way street - is really well placed, only a couple of minutes walk to the nearest restaurant, The Blue Dog and the shops of Matlacha. At least four other great bars/restaurants are all within walking distance. (For a great night out, try Bert's!) There are three seafood markets within walking distance. Mostly we stayed in and cooked grouper, triggerfish, mahi mahi, clams, stone crab claws - all fresh from the local waters and reasonably priced.

The local inhabitants of the street are the nicest, most interestingly eccentric people you will come across. Even for a short visit like ours - less than three weeks - we made some new friends and gained lots of local knowledge. So in terms of location - it is a ten!

The cottage itself was really clean upon arrival. No problem getting in - Betty was there to meet us, and our stay was totally carefree - everything worked as advertized. We needed the heat for a night or two early in our stay and it was very cosy inside within a few minutes. Mostly we lived with the window/doors open, but when it did get too hot, the AC worked just as well cooling the little place down. The TV room is set off from the main living area, which was different, but worked fine and had unlimited viewing options. The cottage is not large, but the bedroom is spacious with a comfortable bed and plenty of storage. Bonus second washroom with a washer/dryer - another plus.

It is NOT a fancy place, but it is clean, comfortable, reasonably well equipped for cooking, and spacious enough for a couple. The carport is another plus - we had a little thunder/hailstorm while we were there, and it was nice to know that our vehicle was not out in the elements. A hose right by the carport came in handy to wash the vehicle and to spray ourselves down as well. The outdoor area on the canal is a really great space. There is a big live oak out there (actually on the neighbouring property) which provides nice afternoon shade. However, the furnishings outside are not up to the standard of the rest of the cottage, and there is no table for outdoor dining. The George Foreman grill works well, but I would have preferred a propane bbq or even a charcol grill. Nevertheless, we loved our stay at Betty's cottage, and you won't find a better VRBO host than Betty Love. We highly recommend it, and we hope to return next year.

Great relaxing stay.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a great stay at this property. It was clean, quiet, well stocked and the bed was comfortable. There were plenty of dishes, silverware, a small cooler, and cooking pans. There were a few staples - salt, pepper, tea. Having a washer and dryer was great. Fishing poles were provided. Also an electric grill which we used for cooking the fresh seafood we bought. We walked to restaurants and shops. The neighbors are super nice and the owner is very easy to deal with. If you want quiet and relaxation this is the place to stay.

Fun in Matlacha

  • 4 of 5

Great location. Everything you need for a couple to stay in this area. Centrally located to a number of activities and a walk to restaurants and shops. You could fish off the back porch...not any keepers, but fun anyway. Kayaking around the corner. Grocery store a few miles away. Friendly neighbors. Loved our stay.

A quaint cottage style house on a quaint island

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our stay at this property. The owner had all the amenities we could have asked for. We spent time relaxing on the deck in back of the house watching the fish jump in the canal and the little lizards scurry around. The neighbor across the ally was super sweet. Found out I had a cold and brought over cold remedies and even offered homemade chicken soup! Matlacha is a colorful little fishing island with numerous little artist shops to visit. Several good restaurants and fish markets are on the island. The Yacht Club beach is about a 20 mim drive and very nice. We would certainly recommend this property.

Nice, cozy, comfortable, quiet.

  • 5 of 5

My 2nd time at this property. First time as a fishing retreat with a buddy. This time as a couple's getaway with the wife. Matlacha is a friendly, laid back town that operates on slow time. Nice people, relaxing town. Good restaurants are walking distance.

The wife said this was the best vacation she's been on. Total relaxation! There's fishing the bridge or the city park (walking distance) or various piers on Pine Island. She took an art class at one of the local art shops. We spent time just chilling at the canal cottage home as well. All supplies are there to cook at home. Best part is sitting out back watching the canal. Day or night, coffee or beer in hand. We relaxed just watching the fish leap out of the water.

Great place for no-pressure vacation. You can go economical by eating in (Publix or WinDixie couple miles away) , short drive to Fort Myers for "big city" and beaches, then return to your quiet oasis. We will be back again most def.!
