My wife and I used to travel west to the Vancouver area Islands with our two children when they were small. We explored the beaches and tidal pools enjoying morning coffee while the kids beach combed, went fishing and hiking, and kayaking. The ocean always has wildlife activity geese, otters, seal and a lot of crab, shrimp and fish.
We rented a house out here in Sooke in 2000 after we completed a week of trekking on the West Coast Trail - and it was a luxurious end to a great experience.
gordon fika purchased this house in 2005
We wanted an area close to a city, yet away from it all.
We selected this property because of its spectacular view and quietness, and its location: it's just a short walk to serious coffee, a number of restaurants and groceries.
We just built (sep. 2012) a contemporary west coast style inviting house designed by a Victoria architect: it is quite an improvement to the old house torn down in 2007.
We wanted a clean, efficient and strong house. It is warm and cosy, energy efficient, and built to current seismic standards.
WOW, is the word heard most often when people come for a visit. We have a truly stunning view from most rooms in the house and the guest house. You can walk down the 25 steps and explore the beach in low tide. Or sit out in comfort on the decks looking right into the water.
On clear nights you can watch the moon rise and travel, accross the Sooke basin, its reflecting lights playing on the often still waters of the basin.
Handy but away from it all.
The house was spectacular as were the views, from most of the rooms.
The kitchen was stocked very well with cooking utensils, dishes, and what ever you could need for cooking and eating.
The beds were very comfortable, and the linen luxuries.
We loved the house and would recommend it to family and friends without reservation.
Gordon and Teresa have created a gorgeous home that is so well equipped and organized for a family group ranging in age and interests! The extra suite was perfect for my brother and sister in-law because it was closely attached to the main house but very private as well, very well appointed, with a super view of the water! We admired the lovely views of the water from all levels of the home, a huge deck, and most of the bedrooms. We really enjoyed looking out to see a variety of wildlife - a resident doe and her three fawns who loved to munch on many of the plants, the otters who climbed on the neighbouring dock, many interesting seals, and so many different types of birds. The master bedroom is stunning, beautifully decorated, and on the main floor of the home (which was very important to us because my elderly mother has trouble with stairs). The beds in all the bedrooms were extremely comfortable - so much that we all mentioned this to one another! My husband particularly enjoyed the sound system and amazing media room on the lower level! There is so much to do around this area - we explored many places - from easy walks along the water (Whiffen Spit) to great hiking, swimming and biking (Sooke potholes and Galloping Goose bike path are just two). We also admired the beautiful artwork at local shops & private studios, and went to a wonderful art show that exhibited the works of many island artists. We had a fabulous lunch and dinner out at the Sooke Harbour House - well worth visiting. We all said that we would love to return to the area! Thank you, Gordon and Teresa, for a wonderful time in a beautiful location!
We enjoyed celebrating the Canada Day long weekend with out of town friends at this beautiful property. Two families of four easily enjoyed this beautiful west coast home. Plenty of room, all comforts of home and minutes to all amenities by foot or car. Bonus was the Mama dear and her two fawns out front every morning.
Very nice luxury experience! Beds so comfortable. Kitchen well equipped. Lovely view.
We recently rented this beautiful oceanfront house for a long extended weekend, and we couldn't ask for a better place to stay. We had 2 families (4 adults, 3 kids) staying together and everyone LOVED this house. It is modern in design with high-end finishings and appliances and very well-maintained. The open-concept layout of the house made it very spacious and comfortable for everyone. All floors and almost all bedrooms had breathtaking views of the water. There were lots of sitting areas (indoors and outdoors) to lounge and relax. The home is fully stocked with cookware, cleaning supplies, and some toiletries. The kitchen was well-designed and functional with all the appliances you need to cook meals for a large group. Gordon was very responsive and made booking quite easy. We didn't have to contact him once during our trip, because everything we needed was already provided.
The house is located only 30 min from Victoria Inner Harbor and close to many beaches and parks. Groceries (Village Market) and other necessities were close by in the main town area of Sooke. We would recommend Stickleback West Coast Eatery for lunch and Stick in the Mud Cafe for your coffee fix. For a nice day excursion, we would recommend the East Sooke Regional Park that has pocket beaches, wonderful tide pools that kids can explore, and an easy kid-friendly trail from Aylard Farm to Becher Bay.
It's very hard to find a house that appeals to everyone in a large group and Gordon's house totally lived up to all our expectations! We would have loved to stay longer. We will definitely come back again and recommend Gordon and Teresa's beautiful home to all our friends.
We were able to gather people from three families for the weekend and had a wonderful time. The house offered a space for everyone and enough privacy to enable us all to enjoy our time there. The BBQ was perfect and the house is very well equipped for your every need. The views were amazing and we saw eagles and seals out the window. The place was impeccably clean. There were plenty of activities in the region for us all to take up - kayaking - whale watching - touring. We got fresh prawns just down the road. Lots of great memories - I hope we can come back again!
