This is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom English basement with a kitchen equipped with the basics for cooking & eating in, has full-sized appliances, including a full-sized washer and dryer. With a queen-sized pull out sofa in the living room, it can accommodate up to 4 people.
The space underwent a full renovation in 2011 and is elegantly decorated in a mid-century modern style. You enter into the living/dining area, which includes a desk in the alcove area under the window. The kitchen is just on the other side of a half-wall, making for an open, inviting living area.
The property is located a half-block off of Lincoln Park, the heart of this section of Capitol Hill. We are a beautiful, family-friendly neighborhood that is centrally located between the lively nightlife of H St, the delicious fresh food & local wares sold at Eastern Market, and the historic presence of the Capitol Building, Library of Congress, and the Supreme Court.
Transit options include:
- Bus lines just a block away in either direction
- 2 metro stations covering 4 metro lines: Eastern Market (blue/orange/silver lines) is a 12-minute walk and Union Station (red line) is a 20-minute walk away.
- A Capitol Bikeshare station 2 blocks away
- Car2Go smart cars are generally available
- Cabs, of course, are also always an option
Get a taste of DC living while staying in this inviting, historic neighborhood!
A very nice place, close to everything that we needed. Would certainly return on another trip
The apartment is nicely decorated, comfortable and conveniently located. We stayed with two adults and two kids and had plenty of space. Parking was easy to find in the neighborhood. The owners provided lots of helpful information about the apartment and the neighborhood. We went to two of the suggested areas for dinner, the Atlas District and Barracks Row. We would recommend staying at the place.
This place is great! It is very clean. It has everything you could possibly need. It is about a mile from Capitol. The neighborhood is safe and charming. We stayed with out 2 boys and had plenty of room. The owners are more than responsive. I really cannot say enough.
This was a great location! It was very easy to walk to the metro and lots of other popular locations. The house was very comfortable and had enough pot, pans and other kitchen utensils in the kitchen to easily prepare meals. And there are several small markets in easy walking distance. Jennifer was so easy to work with, provided lots of very helpful info about the area and very friendly, yet left me to myself, which was the perfect combination. The only thing that could be improved is the barking dog, which was a problem during the day but was not a problem at night which is when it matters most. Since I was spending time with a 4-year old grandson who needed naps in the afternoon, it was more noticeable. If you plan to be out during the day, you probably won't notice it.
My family of four (two teenagers) stayed in this one bedroom basement flat for three nights and could not have been happier with the size of the apartment, the presentation and cleanliness and the proximity to Washington, DC. The neighborhood itself was a vacation destination as it offered access to a beautiful park and wonderful architecture. The metro station is about 8 blocks away, 10 minutes at the most, which at the end of a long day of sight seeing was just another leg of the trip, but it was also a nice stroll in the mornings. This was no big deal for a family who needs more exercise anyways. We got to walk through some very charming parts of DC that are totally unrelated to the Mall area, which gave us a great feel for the total DC experience. Everything that you could need was supplied in the apartment, and we were never disappointed. We even were able to find a parking space three houses down for our vehicle, which we never moved again for the duration of the trip due to the Metro's convenience. Gotta eat at 7th Hill Pizza over in the Eastern Market area. One of the best pizzas we have had. Also, we really enjoyed Founding Farmers in downtown DC. It was an excellent meal, justifying its higher price. You will be happy with your stay at the Kaika's flat.
