We live in San Diego and love to hike. Owning a home in Idyllwild has been a dream since I first visited the mountain 18 years ago. The home is a dream! It is beautifully appointed, newly remodeled from top to bottom and enjoys lots of privacy and seclusion.

JOHN RINALDI purchased this lodge in 2012

Why JOHN RINALDI chose Inland Empire

The last owners remodeled the home with love and utilized many of the same materials used in my primary home like slate floors, the moment I walked in the home I knew this was the house!

What makes this lodge unique

I love views and being up high. The home features large decks in the front and in the back and is quiet and serene. It is a first class home with many fine touches. The unique wood carvings, the large lava rock fireplace reaching to the ceiling, the spa against the rocks, a backyard surrounded by granite rocks, all of these things captured my heart.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a very nice weekend! The cabin is amazing. All of the amenities needed were here and more. We loved the game room and hot tub! We hope to visit again next year!

Delightful mountain retreat

  • 5 of 5

Lovely "cabin" with two large decks, perfect for relaxing and soaking in the gorgeous view. Hottub, fireplace, games, pool table, popcorn maker: everything you could want for a mountain getaway. Worked well for two couples, additional loft area would work well for kids.

Great Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! What an amazing place! We enjoyed every aspect of this home! Great entertainment for all with the spa, pool table, card games, board games, dart board, and a wet bar with wine fridge! AMAZING! The beds were super comfy and cozy! The kitchen had everything you needed to prepare meals too. We highly recommend Eagle Rest and will be back soon!

Needs improvements

  • 3 of 5

Hot Water: The worst part of the cabin is the lack of any hot water. We were only be able to get about 30 seconds of hot water before it would go back to freezing. Then we would turn it off for a min and get another 30 seconds of hot water. We contacted the owner the first day in the cabin and did not hear back from him until the next afternoon. He had several suggestions for fixing the issue but none of the options made improvements in the inconsistency of hot water.

Safety: The listing boasts of upgrades throughout the cabin, but it is a little run down. The kitchen does have nice countertops and looks more modern, but the oven did not stay at temperature and it took 3 hours to cook a pan of lasagna. The deck out back has multiple places were the wood is missing or unstable/broken. The backyard stairs have rebar sticking straight out so watch your step. The upstairs railing is not secure or to code by any means and is dangerous. If you have little children, they can easily fall through all the railings out on the balconies and upstairs because the space between the bars was roughly 10 inches wide on the upstairs railing and more than a foot on the outdoor balconies. Another concerning find was a shot gun shell in the downstairs bedroom. One of our children found it and made us worry if there were guns in the house. A bit unnerving with children running around.

Parking: There is really only one very small parking spot during the winter. If you are visiting during the snow, you cannot park on the street, and the other mentioned parking spot above the property is not suited for parking in the snow as it is too steep.

Pets: I wish we were forewarned about how many pets have been in this cabin. Our friend is highly allergic and was miserable the whole time. It really needs a good clean as there was pet hair on everything including blankets and they left the pet food/water bowls out in the kitchen and upstairs area.

Bedding: We did not find any bedding or blankets for the futon. There were not enough blankets for everyone.

The cabin is in a good area with great views! The pool table and additional games were great! Fully stocked kitchen with any pots/pans/dishes you’d need. We had no issues with the Jacuzzi and it was heated when we arrived. Found a good supply of fire wood up the backyard stairs. The couch was a great size and fits lots of people. Overall I do not see us staying here again.

High end getaway.

  • 4 of 5

Overall our group was impressed with the property. It's modern inside but still rustic. The appliances were new and the kitchen was well stocked with pots pans and what have you. Also there is a grill really nice grill outside (but needs to be cleaned out as it seems from the ash that there have been quite a few bbqs before us) There is a TV with HDMI inputs and they actually had a 3rd gen Apple TV though we had brought our own. Wifi worked well and we were able to stream fine. The fireplace works fine but you should definitely either brig your own or contact the owner to ensure ample dry wood as we had only a few pieces and ended up drying wood we found out back (wet from snow) overnight by the small fire we were able to get going. Bring more sheets and blankets with you in case you need them as they are limited. Hot water takes a while to heat up but once it does you'll be good.

As stated in other reviews, there are a lot of steps and prepare to get out of breath especially if you have to make 5-6 trips.

Overall we'd rent it again!

Fun Weekend Getaway- We didn't want to leave!

  • 4 of 5

We arrived to a spotless mountain cabin exactly as described by the website. As mom unpacked the groceries in the beautiful kitchen with its high end appliances, dad built a fire in the two storey stone fireplace with the firewood provided by the owners at no extra cost. Our two teenagers explored the sprawling mountain side property, inside and out with our two dogs and reported back with excitement that they found a hot tub, a pool table, a gym & a cool sleeping loft plus plenty of outdoor space for the dogs to hang out in and a giant pile of firewood out back. The kids were grinning from ear to ear - this place had all the ingredients for an amazing family weekend away!

Pros- no extra charge for hot tub use & there was plenty of firewood. We've had to drag firewood to the mountain before which takes up too much room in the car & running out when the shops are closed is a pain! Comfy beds & bedding, plenty of towels and a well stocked kitchen. The owners were very responsive when we had some questions about the heating system the first evening. Our teenage son loved his main floor bedroom- quiet, dark & cool. Our daughter was charmed by the secret sleeping loft she accessed by climbing a ladder. Our bedroom was large & bright, perhaps too bright in the morning for sleeping in. The same sky light that you can lie in bed and admire the star lit sky thru before retiring for the evening lacks the room darkening features required for the early sun rise. The loft is also light and bright early! The hot tub was in good shape & the pool table was in constant use. The neighborhood & the roads around the cabin were quiet and beautiful- walking the dogs was a pleasure as we got to admire the varying architecture of the other cabins in the community without having to dodge cars.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the thoughtful review, you do sound like a writer! Our improvement plans include a skylight that both opens and employs a motorized shade several guests previously commented on the bright morning. When I am at the cabin my doggies wake me up at dawn when then they hear all the large squirrels on the deck. Please come visit us soon we are always improving, we also own the Falcon Rest Lodge next door and the land in between, renting both provides a wonderful compound for a family reunion. Happy Holidays.

If you're looking for a great place to relax...

  • 4 of 5

Our stay could have not been more enjoyable. Let me first mention the stairs. It's very clear when renting that there are stairs. That is peoples number one complaint. We read in advance, knew about the stairs and couldn't have cared less. I'll take stairs for seclusion any day. The cabin itself is very modern, with great appiances, powerful airconditioning and an amazing fireplace. We took full advantage of all the fun. Upstairs pool table and lots of boards games available. The hot tub outside was very clean and ran with zero issues. It's very secluded out back where the hot tub is. We used it in the mornings and evenings. I would return to this cabin, that is if they get a bit more shade covering. The cabing has easy access, great location, and total comfort. The one and only complaint is that there is a skylight in the master bedroom. On previous posts people complained about the sunlight and it says shades have been instaled. I just don't understand how you would not install in the master bedroom. Woken up by the sun every morning is not ideal when trying to catch up on sleep. We had a great time at the cabin, and would return, if a shade was installed. It's such a minor install and would make it a much better experience! BTW...great place for dogs!
