About Chris Gray, Must contact me prior to making a reservation
Bill and I have been married for 40+ years and lived and worked most of our lives in Fairfield County, Connecticut, raising our three children. While we lived in the woods, we headed for the coast every chance we had in Connecticut, Rhode Island, or ultimately Maine. We've had a series of sailboats and Bill loves to fish for stripers - thus the "Fish House". After vacationing in Maine for twenty years, when planning our retirement, there was no question as to where we wanted to be - and after finding our incredible property in this wonderful neighborhood, Cushing, Maine, became our home. We are here full-time and with so many activities available, we are always busy!

Why Chris Gray, Must contact me prior to making a reservation chose Cushing
Cushing, Maine provides easy access to the best of mid coast Maine. We are a day-trip away from Acadia National Park and have endless sight-seeing options nearby, as well as fantastic restaurants, museums, and stores - and we are only an hour-and-a-half from Portland and the airport. We chose this property because it is 3 1/2 acres bordered on one side by conservation land and on two sides by the salt water, which changes color throughout the day. So, we are surrounded by incredible natural beauty and peace and quiet. Yet, as part of a homeowner's association on a large parcel of land, we share a tennis court and deep-water dock. We built the Fish House and our main home with walls of windows in every room to take advantage of the ever-changing views outside, which eliminates the need for "art" on walls. Our guests, some of whom have been unaccustomed to "being in the woods", have enjoyed having our home next door to the Fish House, and with the living areas and views from our home on the opposite side from the Fish House, everyone has their own privacy. Having hosted scores of friends and family, as well as our son and daughter-in-law's wedding, we are well-versed in what our guests enjoy when they visit and we love to share our property with others....
What makes this Cottage unique
From the Fish House there are vistas clear out to the ocean and while you feel like you're in the trees from the inside, the shore is less than 100 feet away and at high tide, you can hear the water lap against the shore. Our guests love to sit in the silence of the tree-covered lichen field next to the Fish House, wander the shore and the trail throughout our property and relax in any of the adirondack chairs scattered about. And everyone loves the outdoor shower!

Lovely private get away
Very friendly hosts who are respectful of privacy. Lovely countryside setting with walking roads and dock for tidal watches or swimming. In the Wyeth countryside area. Beautiful!
The perfect get away retreat in Mid Coast Maine
Over the years we have stayed at many great VRBO properties, but the Fish House in Cushing Maine is the first house to make me abandon my itinerary. Instead of rushing out the door see as many sights as possible, I preferred to just relax and stare out the great window and watch the activity down in the cove. Each morning I started my day by going down to the chairs by the cove and just trying to absorb the peacefulness and beauty of it all.
The house itself is adorable, clean as can be and had every appliance and utensil needed. The house warming flowers and bowl of fruit were nice touches and very welcome.
Chris and Bill are great hosts, who greeted us when we arrived and were available if we needed them. They are very kind to share this beautiful slice of earth with their guest as this is a very special place.
The house has tons of books on Maine and assorted flyers on nearby attractions and things to see and do. And, there is plenty to see and do in mid-coast Maine!
The drive to and from the house to Route 1 seems long at first, but you get used to it quickly. Rockland is only 15 minutes away and has some great restaurants, we enjoyed In Good Company and Cafe Miranda and Atlantic Baking Company for lunch.
Our outings included a day in Rockport and Camden, highlighted by a sunset sail on Surprise. We also stayed local one day and went to the Owl Head Light and Birch Point Beach State Park.
An attraction on the road to Thomaston is the Langlais Sculpture Preserve. This is a fun visit where you can see over sized wooden sculptures made by Bernard Laglais, a highly accomplished Maine artist.
The only issue we had was our Google maps wanted us to go down a dead end road to get to the house. If you get similar directions, just call Chris and she will get you back on track.
We had a great time at the Fish House and would go back in a heartbeat the next time we are visiting Mid-Coast Maine!
The apartment is beautiful!! Big glass windows overlooking the private cove. I couldn’t stop watching. The place is decorated to perfection!! Chris, the owner, had fresh fruit and milk in refrigerator for us. So thoughtful!! Bed extremely comfortable. Would definitely recommend this place especially if u like nature. The stars on a clear night are magical. Felt like you could touch them.
The Sounds of Silence
Just returned from a seven night stay at the Fish House. This was my first VRBO experience. Peaceful doesn't describe the quiet, beautiful setting, amazing accommodation and delightful hosts. Chris and Bill are hosts that anyone would want to have when renting a summer vacation home. Thoughtful, considerate and exceptionally friendly! Excellent communication before and during my stay. I was amazed by the absolute silence at night. The rental is very clean and comfortable. Everything one needs to simply "stay in place" and enjoy the serenity if they tire of visiting the awesome scenery and sites nearby. Would definitely stay again if my travels take me to the Northeast. Thanks Chris and Bill!

Beauiful on the water for mid Maine adventures
You couldn't ask for a more serene setting for exploring mid Maine. The cottage is immaculate and very cozy complete with electric fireplace which we used often since it was still a bit cool at night. Located almost midway between Portland and Acadia, we were able to explore not only Acadia National Park but also Camden Hills State Park nearby and also many of the lighthouses and surrounding towns. Even early in the season, there was no shortage of things to see and do. Chris & Bill were excellent hosts and gave us good recommendations to get us started. When not adventuring, we enjoyed relaxing with the lovely view out our windows. The only thing we missed was finding a kayak rental close by so that we could have enjoyed exploring the cove during our stay. We look forward to returning and may even drive up with our own kayaks rather than flying!
Thanks for your lovely review of the Fish House! You guys, likewise, were perfect guests and SO BUSY seeing and doing nearly everything there is to see and do! We're just glad you had such a good time...
We DO hope you return - and bringing your own kayaks is certainly an option. Maybe next time you can join us when it's warmer so you can take advantage of swimming off of our dock and not having to use the little gas stove!!
Hope to see you again....

Our winter visit to Maine was wonderful, and overall was pleasant in every way because of the Fish House accommodation! This home is elegant, cozy, situated perfectly Mid Coast by the water, and inherently engages visitors to take in the natural world around it. We were happy to meet the Fish House hosts, they were friendly, thoughtful, and respectful of privacy. Until next time, the memories will have to do!
Thanks for your lovely review, Carri! You guys were brave to travel north in February but we're glad you had such a good time! It's so nice that you guys are appreciative, not just of the Fish House and the mid-coast area, but also the amazing night sky...summer is great but there is something really special about the stars in the winter. We hope you're able to come back some time when it's warm!!

Nature preserves with hiking trails abound and some have guided tours. Bird-watching is a popular pastime for residents and visitors. The Camden Snow Bowl is nearby for skiing and snowboarding. Mid coast Maine is also a major hub for boats of all kinds and Penobscot Bay always has boating activity, from wooden schooners to fishing boats of all sizes. It is mandatory that all visitors to Maine consume lobster (just kidding!) but lobster-eating is a major activity and a main reason so many visitors return each year.
