|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Bonita Vista is centrally located and easy to get to, yet very private. This new hillside retreat features a large, covered pool bar with breathtaking views overlooking the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge and Caribbean Sea.
A relaxing afternoon poolside slips easily into sunset cocktail hour and dinner from the grill. Perhaps a swim under the stars or a magical moonrise over the bay!
Just steps away to the cottage where your luxurious queen bed awaits and A/C or soothing tropical breezes lull you to sleep. Awake to a spectacular sunrise and enjoy a 'rainfall' shower in your en-suite bathroom. Savor your morning coffee from the fully equipped kitchen while you plan the days adventure!
We returned home less than 24 hours ago and are already looking at dates for our return to Bonita Vista. This was our 3rd trip to Vieques. We do not need to try any other vacation rentals. Barbara and Chris have made this wonderful cottage into a home for any traveler. We have never spent as much time at a rental as we did this trip. The pool house and bar were perfect for lazy afternoons, grilling lunch, watching the sunrise and sunset, and just sitting back and enjoying life. The cottage was perfect for our needs. Every detail has been carefully thought out to provide every visitor exactly what they need - rest and relaxation. Chris and Barbara provided as much privacy as we wanted, but were attentive to our needs and very enjoyable to converse with. Our 10 nights at Bonita Vista were amazing. We cannot wait to return - hopefully sooner rather than later!
There is no other word to describe this humble abode other then PERFECT. My husband and I went on a honeymoon here for about a week and it was all we could ask for and more. Where do I start? The pool, the outdoor kitchen and the view are truly amazing to wake up to and to come home to. Barbara gave us a map with lots of different things to do on our stay. Beaches, horse back riding, the grocery stores, bio bay, all that. We found that map VERY helpful during our stay and referred to it a lot. We HIGHLY recommend doing a couples massage right there on the deck with Ingrid Bergman (yes her real name). Truly heaven. Every time we went to a hotel for dinner or walked around town we found ourselves eager to get back to our little deck with our stunning view, cook outside, have some drinks, play some music and take a dip in the pool. In fact we only went out to eat about 3-4 times our whole stay. The cottage has everything you need and has a very comfortable bed, which for me is important. My husband is a chef and the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed as well! (except maybe scissors) and even had tupperware to contain left overs. The AC was great but we always enjoyed turning it off, door open, screen door closed, fan on listening to the frogs. The friendly dog visits were a welcome treat every now and then. We also rented the car and it was wonderful to have that freedom to roam the island as we pleased and go to different beaches. Kris and Barbara provide you snorkling stuff AND beach chairs which we took full advantage of at various beaches.
We are already saving to come back there and we even took a piece of Vieques home with us in the form of a tiny little sato (street dog) named Otis. This was a place and a trip we will NEVER ever forget.
This was a place we stayed on our trip that turned out far better than our already high expectations. Barbara and Chris were very welcoming, gave us great suggestions on things to do on Vieques, and then also gave us our privacy. We only saw them twice while we were there--checking in and checking out. The views you have from the outdoor bar area are spectacular--way better than in the pictures. And the beach Barbara recommended to us is actually where we got engaged (it was beautiful and secluded--just perfect). After we check out, I'd lost a piece of jewelry in the room (not the engagement ring, thank god) and Barbara quickly mailed it to us so it was home when we got back. Highly recommend this place. The only thing I'd say is that you definitely need a car if you're staying here and want to see the beaches.
There is not much to say that hasn't been said already - this place is awesome. We left Norway on a freezing day in March and ended up in this paradise quite a few hours later. My Swedish husband and I have stayed at many nice places and been fortunate enough to have many wonderful vacations, but our stay at Bonita Vista and the island of Vieques tops every vacation we have ever had. Every detail was thought of, both inside and outside. We enjoyed the cottage, the pool and the outdoor bar/kitchen. An added bonus was having the most beautiful and uncrowded beaches nearby. The cottage was perfectly cleaned and has a beautiful garden. The pool is only a few steps outside, with a great view of the ocean. The location was great too, close to everything , but still quiet. Wonderful, helpful and friendly hosts. I can't recommend this rental enough. It is truly a magical, romantic hide-away. We will definitely be back!
My wife and I greatly appreciate the use of this wonderful rental space. The views were absolutely spectacular and we did enjoy the stars at night. The private pool was a wonderful touch and we were only able to use it a few times because we spent our days snorkeling at the beach! Thanks for providing the gear, nice chairs other amenities and allowing us to use your vehicle for a nominal charge, which was a nice convenience. Also, we were provided with a very helpful map with insider notes of good places to eat and were the beaches were, etc. I will note, the Federal park (Wildlife Refuge and beaches) with the gate closes @ EXACTLY the time, the time states. We were locked IN and had to wait about an hour and a half for someone to come to open it and there were five other carloads of people lock in with us. They should wait at least until the sun goes down - although that was certainly NOT our hosts fault. This was our second trip to Vieques and we have been blessed to have wonderful hosts. The cottage has everything you need for your use and the grill was great. I would also add, my wife lost a bracelet she had recently purchased in Isabell Segunda and the hosts found it and sent it to us. Thanks again, Barbara and Kris. We can only say good things. Hope to be back soon!
After MANY trips to this magical island we have experienced several different types of lodging. After our recent stay at Bonita Vista we know we have found the best. There is no detail left untouched.... Spotlessly clean, comfortable, lacking for nothing. Kris and Barbara have done a remarkable job transforming a Viequan hillside into paradise. Sitting at the pool actually puts you at tree top level for the vegetation below. Endless birds flit and sing, right in front of your eyes. It is a delight.
The cottage is equipped with absolutely everything needed, and the fact that nonperishables left behind by previous guests are retained for future users makes an additional plus. What a dream to find odds and ends of herbs, spices and basics in the kitchen. Sure makes cooking more creative!
The treasure trove of historical artifacts scattered about present a very interesting look at the island's past.... All pleasingly displayed.
Barbara and Kris are discreet hosts that kept pretty much out of sight for our entire stay, actually, we would not have minded seeing more of them. They are a wealth of information about life on the island.
The location is great! Can't think of any negatives! A wonderful trip
Vieques is a small island just 8 miles off the east coast of Puerto Rico. Famous for the 'Bio Bay' - the world's brightest bioluminescent bay - and some of the most spectacular beaches in the world, Vieques is truly an unspoiled Caribbean gem. With activities ranging from beach hopping to sea kayaking and snorkeling to sailing and SCUBA diving, Vieques has something for everyone.
