About the property

Volcano Rainforest Lodge - Private Craftsman Estate - Completed 12-2012

The Volcano Rainforest Lodge is a luxury craftsman estate in an ancient forest.

We are located only a few minutes from the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park main entrance near Kilauea summit and the friendly artists community of Volcano Village. Volcano Rainforest Lodge is located in a secluded, private, 3-acre forest. Each room is designed to view the forest and lava outcroppings.

The lodge was designed with privacy in mind. No other guests will be on the property during your visit.

The lodge is a 2,300 square foot, one level, luxury home with three bedroom/bathroom suites, gourmet kitchen, living room with lava rock fireplace, 16' x 20' dining room, and over 1,400 square feet of covered, outside living area (lanai).

The Lodge has Mango flooring, and door/window trim. Mango is also used in the bathroom cabinets and mirror frames. The doors are solid core knotty Alder. The ceilings are beautiful Canadian Pine with Red Western Cedar beams from Oregon. Counter tops in the Lodge are granite. Bathroom walls and floors are gauged Quartzite.

This beautiful Lodge provides all the elements to make your vacation on the Big Island a memorable experience.

The Lodge is like a breath of fresh air amidst the beautiful forest of Ohias and Hapu'u tree ferns; a quiet place to relax and unwind, while being located close to the various adventures in the area.

The Lodge is available for weddings, parties, and corporate events. Please do not confuse our property with Volcano Rainforest Retreat.

Each of the king suites has a Kuerig coffee maker, microwave, private lanai, exterior door, and a big screen TV. The lodge has DISH satellite television and internet.

About Rob Owens

I have over fifteen years experience in the Hawaiian vacation rental business. I wanted guests to experience luxury and privacy in a Hawaiian/Craftsman home, while being able to view and enjoy ancient forests and lava features from every room and private lanais. I built this home to last for generations, with only high quality construction materials being used. The Volcano Rainforest Lodge took years to complete because great efforts were made to spare the forest and lava features. No bulldozer ever touched the lot with the utmost effort being made to protect the many endangered trees and plants on the grounds. The utilities were placed underground to maximize the views from The Lodge.

Rob Owens purchased this estate in 2006

Why Rob Owens chose Volcano

The property was chosen because of its location. While only minutes away from the national park, Volcano Village, and the golf course, the home site has a remote, rural feeling for those who desire privacy and quiet. The elevation of the lodge is about 3,025' and the daytime high temperature is rarely over 80. The property is within Hawaiian Orchid Island Estates. The square, three acre lot allows for an extensive hiking trail network exclusive to our guests. The property has numerous lava outcroppings to explore as well as 200-year-old Ohia trees, rare native plants, and 20' Hawaiian Hapu'u tree ferns. Construction of the Volcano Rainforest Lodge was completed in December 2012.

What makes this estate unique

The Lodge has over 1,400 square feet of covered, outside living area. Comfortable patio furniture surrounds the house for guests to enjoy the forest in every direction. After a day in the park guests may enjoy a relaxing rest in the hot tub while viewing the beautiful fern forest and stunning night skies. All of the lava excavated during construction was used in the foundation of the home, fireplace, and retaining walls. Exotic woods add to the beauty and elegance of The Lodge. A giant Mango tree which was blown down in a storm and blocked the highway is now our floor and trim. Come and enjoy this beautiful Hawaiian Craftsman home.

Beautiful Craftsman Estate

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the lodge for a week in July. The craftsmanship in the lodge is truly amazing. We wish we could move the home to Georgia! The owner's mom, Sharon, greeted us on our arrival and was very responsive to any questions we had. She left us with a special treat of her Macadamia Nut Banana bread which was so delicious. We enjoyed being so close to the National Park which allowed us to go explore at different times of the day. The restaurants in town were very good. We enjoyed the Kilauea Lodge and the Ohelo Cafe. We would definitely recommend staying at this beautiful property!

Utterly fantastic property in an amazing and unique location. I can't recommend this properly highly enough . The pictures don't do it justice, the quality and attention to detail are top notch. The location is great too and the welcome and help we had from Sharon was second to none. Mahalo

Beautiful home in the rain forest!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six absolutely loved this home and Sharon went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed (her surprise homemade banana bread was unbelievable)! Great home base for visiting the volcano and we loved living in the rain forest for a couple days. One of the most beautiful homes we've stayed in through VRBO. We all enjoyed feeding the pheasants one morning and the hot tub after a long day of hiking was perfect. Thanks Sharon and Rob!

This is a beautiful home in an beautiful setting near the National Park.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for two nights while we visited the National Park. We could not have been happier with the accommodations. The home is beautiful and was built by the owners from top to bottom. There is a great deal of attention to detail in this home, and it is furnished and maintained at a quality that one would expect of one's own home; not a quality that one usually sees in a rental. The hosts are friendly, helpful, and unobtrusive. The house was well stocked with basic food items, beyond what we expected and the fresh baked banana bread was wonderful. We would highly recommend this property to anyone thinking of a visit to Volcano.

Beautiful estate home in Rainforest near Volcanos National Park

  • 5 of 5

Our family of seven thoroughly enjoyed our stay here for my parents' 50th Anniversary. The house is beautifully built with craftsman details throughout. It is also well stocked with anything you could want on your trip. The personal details were thoughtful and there was plenty of room for the entire family in the dining area, living room, and private suites. The wrap around lanai is a treat, with all rooms having private outdoor access to the lanai. The grounds are beautiful, and ample windows take advantage of rainforest views. Hot tub, large jacuzzi tub, and a fireplace made it so we didn't want to leave. Volcanos National Park is a quick drive away. Sharon is an excellent host. We would highly recommend this home. Thank you for a wonderful family trip.
