About the property

Mas Mimosa

Set in just under an acre, Mas Mimosa benefits from being in the rural outskirts of Perpignan but only a 20 min walk through the pretty park to the beautiful & historic city, with all its delightful bars and restaurants to sample. Just a 10 minute drive are the glorious sandy beaches by the safe non-tidal Mediterranean sea.

The Old Barn and Le Cerisier are gites attached to our 150 year old Catalan Mas. They are stone built and have exposed beams & rafters. Open plan lounge/dining room areas with fireplaces, comfy sofas, TV, DVD stereo/cd player. Fully equipped kitchens to cater for your every need.

Why not rent both and bring extended families, total capacity would be 12 plus a baby.

Outside there is private terrace space for each, with hand built traditional Catalan BBQ, table, chairs and parasol.. Beautiful mature gardens with swings/slide/seesaw, & a giant Jenga, safe & secluded from the road. Tables & chairs are provided here & there amid the trees for you to chill out. The terraces and gardens are lit up at night for al fresco dining in the warm evenings.

Shady peaceful summer kitchen with double french doors opening to poolside, with BBQ, fridge, & utility room with sink, shower, toilet & washing machine for use of all guests.

The stunning secluded 13.5m x 6m pool, private for occupants of the Mas, is family orientated, with perimeter overflow & roman steps. The segregated toddler pool is only 40cm deep and enables little ones to get in & out on their own, encouraging confidence in the water. Huge relaxing decking area with sunbeds, parasols, tables & chairs , security gate & fence. We use a salt disinfection system, kind to skin and eyes, no chlorine smell or taste. Red squirrels & birds come & drink from the pool. The peaceful secluded gardens are a haven to many species of birds, including exotic Hoopoes from Africa.

Mas Mimosa is a wonderful base to explore the Languedoc Roussillon region with all it has to offer. Stunning chateaux with vineyards & wine-tasting. Towns steeped in history with wonderful architecture, Carcassonne, Castelnou, & Ceret to name a few, Ceret has a wonderful market on Saturday morning.

There are markets most days in the numerous squares; we have a flea market every Sunday on the outskirts of Perpignan either a 15 walk or a 2 minute drive. They sell an eclectic mix of clothes, antiques & some wonderful fabrics & curtains. In Place Cassanyes in another part of the city, about a 20 minute walk, every day is an Arab market; the best day to visit is a Sunday morning when the stalls spill out over the streets. They also sell an eclectic mix but this includes food, wine, herbs & spices, all which smell wonderful. Treat yourself to spit roast chicken or home-made couscous, paella or a local speciality ‘boles du picolat’ (meatballs in sauce).

In July & August Perpignan hosts 'Les Jeudis' free Thursday evening festivals, street theatre , dance & acrobats, whereby the city is filled with people meandering around in the warm night air.

Perpignan is full of shops, restaurants & cafes, Canet plage 10 mins drive, has many bars & restaurants, & in the summer beach bars are set up.

Many nearby towns were visited and painted by famous artists, such as Picasso, Dali & Matisse. Perpignan Ceret & Collioure both have museums & art galleries. The Cathar castles are fascinating to visit.

Perpignan was declared ' the centre of the universe' by Dali, after whom the train station is named.

Spain with its border of duty free shops is 25 mins away, Figueres with the Dali museum , an hour,

Barcelona with the amazing Sagrada Familia is 2 hours away.

In the peak season Ryanair has flights into Perpignan airport every day, this changes to Sun Mon Wed & Fri in mid season. They also serve Carcassonne & Bezier airports. Girona (Barcelona) airport 1 hour drive from Perpignan , is served by Ryanair & Easyjet all year round. From here there is a link to Perpignan via a bus service. The rail network links Perpignan to Girona , Figueres and Barcelona.

other airlines are flybe fly from Southampton, bmibaby -Manchester. Aer Lingus - Dublin

About Sue Wisdom

Originally from Essex we are a mature couple who are both parents & grandparents.

We pride ourselves in providing you with a truly lovely setting to enable you to have a memorable holiday .

Sue Wisdom purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Sue Wisdom chose Perpignan area

After spending several years holidaying in the region , circumstances became right for us to move permanently. After seeing lots of unsuitable properties our friends here heard about this farmhouse and took us to see it . Well it was pretty run down but ticked all the boxes to use a well worn cliche. So began our journey into DIY heaven and hell . Looking back on the photos of the renovation we may have been slightly bonkers, but now our labours, we think , have produced a wonderful home for holiday makers.

What makes this cottage unique

Here you will have the benefits of rural surroundings, but 10 minutes walk from the traditional boulangerie, and 20 minutes walk into the city. We have always felt life was close by but yet we are in a tranquil private paradise of our own making. We have tried to make both gites homely, welcoming and well equipped. The same for the pool and gardens , beautiful salt water pool surrounded by plants and trees. Lots of places to sit whichever takes your mood. Parents chill while the children safely play .....which means a holiday for all .

Having just returned from a lovely holiday in SW France I feel compelled to write a review about this property. The English owners have made an amazing job of converting the Barn and the smaller cottage, every detail has been considered to ensure that you have a wonderful relaxing stay. the pool area is exquisite and safe for children.

The walk to the local supermarket is along a lane which is OK and takes about 10 minutes. Another 10 minute walk further into Perpignan brings you to the local market where you can buy fresh fruit and veg everyday and on a Saturday the market spills out into the streets. there is also a boulangerie here and I must admit that the bread and croissants far exceed the local shop. Worth the walk.

the English owners are extremely knowledgeable about the local area and are friendly without being intrusive. I feel that we have made new friends and will definitely return.

The french doors are lockable and the pool has security fencing and gate on the garden side for peace of mind with the little ones and the pool has a special shallow end for them to gain confidence in the water.

Exactly as it was described in the blurb

  • 5 of 5

Sue and Steve were very welcoming and friendly hosts, who respected our privacy too. The accommodation was extremely comfortable. We stayed in Le Cerisier and it was perfect for the two of us. Sue and Steve have considered everything that is required for a comfortable holiday experience.

We wanted a relaxing holiday doing very little and that's what we achieved. We were car free, so walked in and out of Perpignan when we could tear ourselves away from the sun loungers. It's an easy walk. We used public transport and explored both coast and mountains - all very accessible, convenient and inexpensive.

We were very spoiled as we were the only people staying at the Mas at the time, so had the pool area all to ourselves. However, there is plenty of space for all if there are people staying in the other accommodation. We had a peak into The Barn, which is beautifully presented. If we can gather the family together in one place, then we would consider booking the two cottages.

Fantastic cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Sue and Steve's property. The cottage is lovely, comfortable and well-equipped. It is decorated to a very high standard and has everything in it that you would need for your stay. It was also spotlessly clean when we arrived.

The pool area is beautiful and is a great bonus to staying there. The photos don't do justice to how lovely it is. It is a relaxing and peaceful place to swim or sunbathe and, just like the cottage, was always spotless.

Sue and Steve are great hosts. They were friendly and helpful and really nice people.

They have created a lovely place to stay. The location is really good, we liked the fact we weren't right in the city centre, but that we were close enough to walk to it/to walk to the supermarket or get out and about to places without having to get a car.

We would definitely recommend staying here!

A wonderful stay in beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Steve and Sue have lovingly restored this farmhouse to an exceptionally high standard. With tasteful décor, beautiful gardens, a tranquil pool, and very well-equipped and comfortable accommodation, they really have thought of everything. Located within easy reach of Perpignan centre, the beach, and the local bakery and supermarket, it was very convenient for everything we needed but nevertheless a secluded and quiet spot. Our children loved playing in the pool all day long, and we enjoyed several barbecues in the private terraced area outside. For cooking, guests are welcome to help themselves to the herbs growing in the garden and we were even lucky enough to try some of Sue's home grown produce. (We would recommend Sue's homemade jam from the fruit trees!) Thank you Steve and Sue for a wonderfully relaxing week!

Fantastic gite friendly and welcoming hosts

  • 5 of 5

Excellent location, peaceful rural setting but only 20 minutes from Perpignan. 10 minutes from beach and great for exploring the Pyrenees and the coast around the old town of Perpignan.

The gite is well appointed with everything you need including a fantastic outdoor eating and barbecue area.

The pool is the best we've had in all our years of this kind of holiday.

Sue and Steve couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming

A delightful 'home-from-home' near Perpignan!

  • 5 of 5

We've just spent a week at Le Cerisier, the smaller of the two delightful holiday properties on the site, and can truly say, this was the best we have ever stayed in. The charming owners, Sue and Steve, have put so much care and thought into ensuring that the gite is exceptionally well equipped and beautifully presented. The inside is very comfortable and absolutely immaculate, and the plant-clad, decked area attached at the front of the property is the perfect place to enjoy a meal or a glass of wine (or two!) on a summer's evening. Each of the two properties has its own secluded barbecue area, again immaculately maintained, and pretty garden lighting makes the whole area quite magical when it gets dark. We didn't use the pool, but again, it was beautifully set up, with plenty of nice seating areas thoughtfully spaced around the outside. Our hosts Sue and Steve were friendly and helpful and made us feel so welcome - it was like staying with good friends. They have put an immense amount of work into renovating their properties and making them welcoming and comfortable - and they've created a dream. We can't wait to go back!

Great family holiday in lovely accommodation

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was to a higher standard than i expected with real attention to detail put into the finish of the property. The pool was amazing and the surrounding gardens offer a great place to relax whilst also having facilities for kids. The location is perfect, 15 min drive from the airport, 20 min walk to Perpignan centre,10 min drive to the beach, 40 min drive into the Pyrenees. Sue & Steve are excellent hosts, very good company and couldn't do enough to help us which is invaluable if its your first time to the area. A very relaxing holiday, will definatly be returning!
