Beautiful 3,400+ square foot (plus full basement), updated Cape home, located on a quiet dead-end street within 50 yards of private association dock with direct access via kayak (provided) through scenic Bumps river to Long Beach. House has 5 double bedrooms and 3 full and 2 half baths, including two master suites (second one to be completed spring 2013 with brand new bathroom!). Main floor master suite has 2 person spa tub and separate shower. The great room has 20 foot Cathedral ceilings, a large field stone fireplace. Perfect for fires on a cold fall or winter’s night or to enjoy friends and family at the end of a day of all that the cape has to offer. The large deck has a outdoor gas grill and plenty of shaded seating overlooking the beautifully maintained gardens. The modern kitchen includes Viking gas range and sub-zero fridge with icemaker, cherry cabinets and granite counters. The dining room has expandable table to seat 10 for dinner. Full basement with comfortable couches, second TV (perfect kids zone), extra fridge and a multitude of games for young and old, including: ping pong, Foosball, pool, air hockey, WII and more. The house is within 2 miles of downtown Osterville, Craigville beach, Four Seas ice-cream and the general store. The location is convenient to several major supermarkets including Stop and Shop (Cotuit and Hyannis), Fancy Market (Osterville) and Trader Joe’s (Hyannis), as well as close to ferries to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard or a trip anywhere on or off Cape.
My husband and I have lived in and traveled to many places around the world and currently live on St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands with our teenage daughters. We love staying in rental properties in our travels. Not only is this usually a more economical equation, but I like feeling that I'm 'living' the local life when exploring a new place.
Elsbeth Rowaan-Bartlett purchased this house in 2009
We bought our Cape house in 2009 to be closer to family in the summer and bring our teenage daughters closer to their summer activities. We haven't regretted our purchase for one single moment. From watching the birds on the back deck or dock, riding our bike into Osterville for a coffee or a paper, to kayaking straight from our own dock to long beach. Our kids love going to Craigville beach, stopping for ice cream at Four Seas, or going to the mall or movies with their summer friends. It is close to everything without sacrificing the peace and quiet you crave while being on vacation.
Our house is on a dead end street with a path to a shared dock (4 houses), perfect for kayaking or just watching the world go by with a glass of wine at the end of the day!
We had a lovely stay in Centerville. The house was roomy and had everything we needed for three families and three generations. The kids loved playing in the gorgeous backyard. The adults enjoyed the hot tub. The house is close to many beaches and towns on the Cape. We enjoyed the pool table, air hockey and other games in the basement when it was too hot and steamy to be around the fire pit at night. We had a problem with the refrigerator but Elsbeth attended to it as quickly as possible. Luckily there was a second refrigerator in the basement. We would go back to this house and are happy to recommend it.
Our family group of grandparents, children and grandchildren enjoyed a fantastic week at this lovely home. The photos give a sense of the space and quality amenities at the house. Two of the five bedrooms have ensuites, so they make great master suites. The family bath with double sinks and shower/tub was very spacious and there were also two half baths, thus plenty of bathroom space. As others have mentioned, the basement includes a very nice room with a large screen television and a huge game room with pool table, ping pong, and more. The kitchen/dining room is perfect for a large group, with a very big island, an expandable dining table, granite counters and stainless steel appliances. Even the foyer is large and lovely. When you open the front door, you walk into a warm and welcoming space that bridges the kitchen and great room. The great room itself is absolutely beautiful and very well laid out. There is a lovely seating area by a stone fireplace, a cozy corner for reading which has two leather club chairs looking out at the back deck and beautifully landscaped grounds, as well as a media corner with a couch and oversized chair with large ottoman. Skylights in the cathedral ceiling in the great room make it light filled and the beautiful wood trim and hardwood floors add to its beauty.
We found the outdoor shower to be great for both children and adults, and the hot tub was a wonderful place to relax at the end of the day. The nearby dock was fun for all. The house is located just a short ride to both Centerville and Osterville town beaches, which can be accessed with the beach pass. We used the pass at Craigville Beach, Dowses Beach, and to access the beach off Long Beach Rd. These are just three of the many beaches that the pass allows entry to.
The back deck is enormous, and four large umbrellas provided shade whenever and wherever needed. In addition, the back yard has plenty of lovely grass for the children to run around and play. Sports equipment and some toys in the foyer closet added to their fun.
The owner, E., is gracious and caring, as is her property manager. When we arrived we realized that an air conditioner in one of the bedrooms had stopped working; within hours the unit was replaced. A detailed notebook provides instructions for the appliances, hot tub, etc., and includes tourist and historical information. It was most helpful. This beautiful home provided all that we could hope for!
My friends and I have made a trip to the Cape an annual event for 4 years now and this house could be described as nothing less than perfect for our needs. We chose the house, because it had the right amount of bedrooms and had an updated kitchen and bathrooms. When we arrived we were given a tour of the property (by the nicest owners I have had the pleasure to meet) where we realized that the property was much more than we expected. A great room filled with comfortable chairs, a large deck with a large grill for the aspiring outdoor chef and a hot tub for relaxing. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could possibly need or want. The outdoor shower was large and comfortable and the backyard had a fire pit that begged for s'mores to be made. For our group, that included 4 children under the age of 6, the piece de resistance was the basement game room that kept the kids out of our hair for the perfect amount of time, daily. The dock on the river was less than 100 yards from the house which made it so easy to take those early morning kayak trips. Secluded from the busy main roads, but only a 5 minute drive to Craigville Beach and a 10 minute drive to downtown Hyannis allowed us to feel like we had the Cape to ourselves at night. Before we left we decided that this was the house we wanted to stay at every year. I think you'll feel the same way.
My family and I stayed at the house in mid May and we loved it! I doubt that I can do justice with my review but I will try. The house is very clean and obviously well cared for. It is spacious, bright and sunny. It is comfortably furnished and very well stocked. The location is perfect, very peaceful and secluded yet conveniently close to shopping and beaches.
The house is huge and very well laid out. Lots of room for large gatherings and yet lots of private space as well. The yard and deck are beautiful. There was a lot for our three boys to do as well. We immediately felt right at home. Even the sheets and towels were soft! I felt like Goldilocks...everything was just right.
Elizabeth was very helpful before, during and after our stay. She checked in with us often without being intrusive. We didn't have any problems during our stay but I felt confident that if we had, she would have been quick to help us with what ever we needed. After leaving, we realized we had left something behind which Elizabeth promptly mailed to us.
I would recommend this amazing house to any one and in fact I am trying to figure out how we can stay here again. We loved it so much!!
