About Brett Boetto

The cabin is owned by business partners who have been friends for over 20 years. This cabin has been a great retreat for both families. Partner Randy grew up in Merced CA, and Partner Brett has lived in the CA Valley over 21 years, originally growing up in Marseilles IL. We also own and rent a home in San Felipe Mexico on the Sea Of Cortez; another awesome escape in a quiet fishing village. Both are homey friendly places with as much adventure & fun as you like, too! ...Or just pure relaxation with peace and quiet.

Brett Boetto purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Brett Boetto chose Gold Country / High Sierra

The property is centrally located near both Mountain and Foot Hill activities such as snow skiing and wine tasting. It is easily accessed from Hwy 4 amongst beautiful pines and is an extremely peaceful location. It's a true cabin not just a house in the forest. Very quiet location with peaceful nature sounds galore.

What makes this cabin unique

A true retreat from your fast paced lifestyle. A cozy cabin feel with a gas fireplace in the living room. A large deck with built in seating is perfect for your summer BBQ or just a glass of local wine.

Great Bear Valley Family Retreat

  • 4 of 5

Just the right size for a family of 4-5 close to Bear Valley for a few days of skiing. All the basic amenities of home. Kitchen had everything needed for basic meal prep. Nice little DVD collection, Wi-Fi and USB outlet.

Nightly rate initially seemed lower than others. It's a bit deceiving as you need to bring your own linens and there is a one-time cleaning fee tacked on to the bill. It would make more sense if we were there for several days instead of a weekend.

Single bathroom very small/cramped. If we hadn't spent so much time in Europe, it might have really bothered us. Heater in living room has two settings: on at full blast or off. It was a bit of a challenge to get the temperature just right. Even with the heater off at night, bedroom temperature upstairs seemed just fine.

Pros far outweigh cons. Highly recommended.

Cozy, comfortable cabin in the woods

  • 4 of 5

The property is well-maintained, clean and comfortable. This is a small cabin that provided all basic needs for our family of four.

We arrived after a storm, and access to the property was dicy. The road was ploughed (1 land only), with two parking spots at the end of the road that allowed us to turn the truck around. The way from the parking area to the bottom of the stairs was not cleared, so we had to stomp through 2-ft of snow and climb up the icy, partially cleared stairs. The owner was very communicative about the uncertain weather conditions and generously offered to refund if we wanted to cancel. We decided to go anyway. Once inside, it was warm, and enjoyable.

I appreciate the effective insulation and thick carpet that kept the cabin warm, event through chilly nights, and has heaters in every room. The beds are comfortable and lots of blankets are available. Guests provide linens and towels. We have young children (1 and 5) and had to be watchful, especially on the steep stairs leading to the two upstairs bedrooms, and numerous electrical outlets/wires. The bathroom is tiny, but functional and clean. The kitchen worked well and we liked relaxing on the couches in the living room.

We played in the snow, right around the cabin, and also at Spicer Snow Park (toward Bear Valley Mountain). Basic groceries and supplies are available in Arnold.

It was a fun weekend, and I enjoyed the stay. We will consider it again in the future, especially whent he kids are a littel older. Recommend it.

Very clean and nice. The stove is a challenge though. It's either on high or off.
